I know it's not all the same but I moved about 1.5 hours away from all my family. They all live about 10mins from each other. I only get phonecalls from my Mum now but I called my extended family quite regularly when I first moved but it was never reciprocated. When my Mum was recently talking to my sister about me not having any family support around me where I am, my sister said that living here was my choice I rarely get invited to gatherings they have because they just don't think of me.
It's not fair that it's now your DS missing out, I hope your Mum wakes up soon
Am I right in assuming your DHs parents live in the same country? I think this is likely the key, I think your family resents that you left them for his family and are going to be very petty and punish you for it!
DH's family do live here, but they live 500kms away.
I only have problems with my mother at the moment, but she does have a long history of mental illness and has a very selfish attitude towards the world. I won't go into it, but I guess I can only put up with it for so long. I have a strong feeling it has nothing to do with the distance and it would be the same if I was living in Australia.
Luckily my father is really loving and supportive and my step-father (Mother's second ex-husband) is too. Even though they don't call either, at least I have great conversations with them when I do call.
