Something serious - what should I do?

It's not about judging. It's about making sure a child is okay. In that situation, personally, I would have called the police. I wouldn't have taken a child into my car, but I can see why your DH did. I would have asked the child all the right questions, stayed with them until the police arrived etc. As someone else said, I'd rather my child be returned by the police than a stranger. The reaction from the child's father is enough IMO to warrant reporting it as well. If it's a one off, harmless incident, okay, no harm. If there's something awry, it surely won't be the first report and could save a child in danger.

i think this is what i would have done as well. i also think of my DS at a couple of weeks of 2.5 & wonder if he would have picked the right house when going past or would have said yes to a house with something in the garden that looked like fun or just similar to our house?

i'm not sure how i would react if it was me but i think i would have so many feelings - relief, panic, concern, embarrassment that i might have reacted in a way that people may have thought strange.

as for reporting to DOCS, i think go with your gut instinct. or you could call the cops, tell them what happened & say you're not sure whether you should do anything else & let them give you some advice :dunno:

i think i would have called the police but then again i dont know anyone here well enough to know where they came from

the police have been called on my son and DH while i was at work DS has a habit of screaming when he gets in trouble and the neighbours thought something was going on but he does have a habit of saying no no no mum it would sound horible to someone who hasnt heard it before

and he does escape on day he rode his tricycle about 4 or 5 houses down untill i realised he was gone it was terrifying

When DF was arriving home tonight the father from this morning was mowing out the front and waved to DF, so DF wondered back down the street and had a chat with him.

Turns out that their dog was getting out of the yard a lot and they'd all go walking to find her. Then last week the dog got out and didn't come home - so this little boy has taken it upon himself to go looking - this is actually the 2nd time he's dashed off but the first time he didn't get as far.

He said their only option is to start using the keys to lock every door until he stops trying to leave the house.

The guy gave DF a beer and thanked him again so I'm feeling a lot better about the whole situation.
