I just realised 38/39 isn't that young. Our Lulu was 39 when she became a grandmother.

Parenting age is very different now. I was considered young at 21. Which I don't think I was. I look at Lulu's DD and I don't see her as a "teen mother". My grandmother was 20 with her first. My MIL was 21.

    I think it's uncommon now, but I don't think it's overly bizarre.

But being a young grandparent doesn't automatically mean pregnant at 16 IMO.

My Mum was 48 (although she had me fairly young, my DD1 was her first grandchild). My Aunty was a grandmother in her early 30s!

My dad would have been 48 when my first nephew was born and my mum (if she were alive) would have been 47.

My IL's were approx 56 and 65 when our dd1 was born (dh is an only child)

Mum was 37 and Dad was 38. I was a young Mum but they were very young parents so its their own fault they were in turn young Grandparents :-)

At what age did your parents become grandparents?

My mum was 46, dad was 47.

    My IL's were 65 and 66.

My husband and I are the youngest siblings.

Until last year we had 6 generations alive. My great grandma passed away late last year.

My great grandma (103), my grandma (80), my aunty (mums sister, 60), my cousin (42), her daughter (24), and her son (2).

My mum & her sister were born two years apart. They had their first child the same year (1971). My mum became a grandma at 56. Two years later, my aunt became a great-grandma at 60. She was a grandma at 41.
