Who decided how your bedroom was furnished?

In your relationship, who decided how your bedroom was furnished, and what does this say about your relationship/the people in it.

In our case, I've pretty much steered the decorating choices, and DH is quite happy to go along with whatever I chose. But I don't have any flouncy overly feminine decorating tendencies, and I take into account what DH says he likes (within reason). If I left it totally up to him we would have a bad 1980's pseudo-japanese black & white pastiche thing happening.

PS - first person to mention a rotating bed, mirrored ceiling or lifesized cardboard superhero cut-out wins a (virtual) chocolate frog.

LOL you certainly have a lot of things in your head to talk about today MD.

We don't decorate, we shove the bed and storage stuff in there and move it from time to time. There is no "furnishings" cos we're just not fancy like that.

I don't even have a doona cover on the doona PMSL

Before I met DP I had brought a beautiful bedroom set, chunky solid dark wood & it weighs a ton - when we moved in together there was no contest as he had been sleeping on a cruddy hard futon *shudder*

Well when we moved over from UK we both went to IKEA and bought a bed (cheapest one with no footboard), two bedside tables and got the mattress out the bargain bin - so you could say we both chose it. There is really no 'decor' - doona covers whatever was on special and now have a IKEA expedit storage unit in the corner, we don't have curtains just plain white blinds that were here when bought it - but that is it. My mum thinks we still live like students and that we should take more interest/pride in our flat's decoration but hey just can't get interested in stuff like that and don't have the spare cash either. DD has shown an interest and has blu-tacked lots of her drawings all over our walls so it isn't completely bare.

DH and I both chose the bedroom suite when we moved in together, we're about due for an update now.

As for the decorating, that's me, with keeping DH's taste and the fact that he doesn't like floral-ey / frilly things in mind

Me! I loved a bedroom suite I saw in a catalogue so when I got an awesome tax refund a couple years ago I took DH shopping. We looked at heaps of others but I still loved the one I choose. He couldn't come up with a better option so we got my choice. I choose the soft furnishings with him in mind though (we had to update everything as we went from queen to king size). He doesn't like the cushion covers in the lounge room and put up a bit of a song & dance when I brought them home, so I thought I better not go too girly. If it was solely up to DH, we would probably have his double bed from his teenage days that he "borrowed" from his brother when he was working away. Totally gross!

    Me.

One of the benefits of being single. Don't have to take into account anyone else's feelings.

When I was married... XH didn't care anyway as long as it wasn't frilly or flowery. Which isn't my taste anyway.

We have similar tastes so chose our new suite together its antique style and we love it but that said dh's second choice was dungeon style with studs and bolts kind of reminded my of 50 shades of grey! Our bedroom is pink with swags and a chandelier not what I would have chosen but the previous owner did it and it does suit our bed now so it will stay. I chose the bedding and lamps which are all silver.

    No-one really decided.
When we got together he had a bigger bed than me so we kept his bed and his bedside tables. I have some drawers that I inherited so we have them as well.
All the mirrors were there when we moved in Lots of mirrors.......

When we got married we got our bedroom furniture and we chose it together. Over the years we grew to hate it and sold it all with the house.

I've just put a new bed frame on lay by and will eventually buy the matching furniture. DH hasn't even seen it and doesn't care. His only rule is no floral lol.

Me! Well, we went to pick it out together but I had the final say of course, lol. But sometimes he has totally crap ideas that I just couldn't live with so that's the way it has to be. What does that say about our relationship? That I have more style and he knows it, lol.

The bed was DH's when we moved in together. We bought the bedside tables and lamps, etc, together, but just cheap ones from Ikea. The idea is we will upgrade to a nice suite, just haven't really gotten around to it.

Where we have spent lots of money is on sheets, woollen underlay, quilt, quilt cover, etc. and those we always choose together.

We picked together the bedroom settings. The bedding has been more me, but really I was just getting what was on special and I liked, rather than loved.

We do have fairly similar tastes and will both veto if we really do not like. So we find a compromise that we are both happy with.

He had bigger bed when we got together so we stuck with that but had already started looking for "our" bed before that. Took 12 months of us looking all over the place before we found a suite we both likes. And we found it interstate! Got manufacturers details and found someone down here who could get it it for us. Neither one of us would push for something we didn't both love, given we were spending big money on it. There was just something about it we both liked....

All the soft furnishings have been what was available and reasonably priced at the time. We both look, we both have option to veto. We have similar taste though. Bed is ornate so we only have plain linen, so it's not difficult to choose

I guess that says weaned either equal partners, both too weak to fight for what we like, or both too strong to give into the other . You can interpret however you like!

The expensive things (the bed, the quilt, etc) we decided on together.

I get a lot of leeway.

Some things he likes and I don't, but the things he doesn't mind about are vast, so the odd thing here and there that I don't like I just let slide.

Plenty of things we've had for years, or inherited and never been able to justify replacing (bedside tables, etc).

I moved in with DH so bedroom was allready furnished well sort off. We kept his bed and got rid of desk etc from bedroom and bought a chest of drawers and bed side tables together. About 5 years later we bought a new mattress together. I have always been the one buying bed spreads as I like them to match where as he would open cupboard and what ever cover and pillow cases and sheet were at front would grab not caring how would look.
I have put a few pics on walls.

So a bit of each of us.

I picked the dressing table and drawers before I met DH, and the spare room bed. They were bought by my parents when I lived with them and given to us when we married. The other drawers in the spare room were given second-hand from a friend. The sliderobes are mirrored, but came with the house.

DH picked our current bed. I picked the sheets, but nothing DH would not like.

About our relationship? I guess it says we both like free stuff.
