DD1 has a competition at school - Mini Master Chef.
The kids are being asked to make, on their own, a cake / other desert as their entry. They are to make it at home tonight, and take it in tomorrow morning. (parents are allowed to supervise only).
The cakes are then being sold off at a fundraiser tomorrow night.
So, been googling, but nothing is jumping out at me .... anyone have any tried and tested recipes for kiddies to make?
I've just tried one of the passionfruit cupcake recipes that I saw in the BB recipe section yesterday, they were really quick and easy. If you give me another 5-10 minutes I can tell you how they taste too.
I'll have a think about it - I'm only one step up from kid level really.
ETA: How about something like banana choc chip muffins? Muffins are pretty darned hard to stuff up, if you dust a bit of icing sugar on the top they look rather pretty. And you could put them in coloured paper things too...what are they called?
ETAA: Oh, if you want something that looks spectacular, how about a white looking cheesecake (every time I've made one it hasn't been too hard?), and then pour a berry coulis on top?

Carrot cake... Carrot Cake Recipe I use self rasing flour insead of plain and the baking powder and soda - tastes nicer i think ... Also i put only about a 1/2 a cup of sugar in it... its WAY too sweeet with that much sugar.. all the kids that i have baked this for -loads- love it and it has been the fastest ever eaten cake at a party!
hardest part of this is grating the carrots, so depends on how much your kids do in the kitchen already - for DSS this would be easy as he has been helping grate for years, so individual kids may find this hard.
For the topping is get a block of Philly, seive in some icing sugar mix around and spread over the top... more i/sugar = sweeter, i just do it to taste... if you want to get creative you can colour the philly with a drop or two of food colouring (i made purple for the last one) OR you could add a bit of lemon juice and zest for a citrus flavour...
or banana bread, really easy to make...
3 mushy bananas
2 cups wholemeal S/R flour (can use white if you prefer, but i think w/m is nicer)
2 eggs
Saltana's and dates
Sugar if you are adding no additional fruit 1/4-1/2 cup
Mix all ingredients together
Put in tin
Bake at 180C for 30 mins then turn down to lowest setting for 15 mins
remove and cool.
