Karicare thickener

Has anyone used the Karicare thickener with any success?? Its kinda my last resort and my GP suggested not to thicken formula but im at my wits end with all the chucking. This morning i picked ds off his play mat and he chucked all down my left side then turned his head and chucked all down my right side. it got all over me, him and the floor. Thank god we dont have carpet he he. Just wondering what peoples experiences were with the thickener as i dont want to chnage formula again.

I haven't used the thickener - Just the Karicare AR formula - which was thickened. DD had reflux for a while.
It does work, but it did give her alot of constipation and I imagine the thickener would be similiar.
I spent alot of time pumping extra water and sometimes sugar water into help her along.

It might not happen, just something to keep in mind.

DD had BAD reflux and was vomiting all the time. I tried the Karicare thickener but then I changed to the Karicare AR thickened formula instead and prefered that over the seperate thickener. It didn't stop the spewing but it defiantely made her spew less.

Worth giving it a go!

Yes. I used the thickener with DS. I added it one of the soy formula's (under pediatrician advice). It seemed to help but DS also had constipation problems. HTH

I have used it with both my girls and both times it caused constipation and tummy upsets. IMO don't bother.

I used it on our peds advice.. We were giving EBM in a bottle and we used this no worries..

We used it with Em, she could not keep a bottle down at all if it wasnt thick for a few months. We couldnt use any of the normal thickened formulas so we used this with her script formula.

We tried it for a while, as well as the other type of thickner (which at this moment the name of it esapes me)- eventually though we just switched the the Karicare AR formula which seemed to be much better for DS

We use it with no issues. Sam needs a HA formula, but the karicare HA-AR gave him raging diarrhea and incredibly stinky farts - he smelled so bad and pooed so often we couldn't really take him anywhere. Now, with his Nan HA formula and the thickener we have the chucking reduced to manageable levels. We still have the odd bad day/feed, but we don't end up with both of us needing a bath after each and every feed. Sam doesn't poo often, but he's not constipated. We get about every 4 days, but his poos are still soft so it's definitely not constipation.

You've just got to remember that what works for one child may not necessarily work for another.

I used it a little with Steph, but nothing helped her. I used it more often when she was having solids to thicken vege purees and soups. I've still got 3/4 of the can I reckon!

I used it to thicken my EBM, it worked well for us. In the early days DD was also on anti-relux meds, but we were able to wean the meds and she remained just on the thickener and it worked great, she was about 5-6 months old when she was able to be weaned off of thickener.

I didn't use the thickener as I felt it was easier to buy the thickened formula in the first place. We use Karicare HA-AR. It's much better than the AR (IMHO) and after a week of nasty poos all went back to normal & absolutely no chucking at all.
