Anyone recommend a formula to suit a bf baby?

    Hi Everyone,

DD is 4 months and has been mostly exclusively bf. We have tried giving her S26 LF when we felt a top up is required but she hates it and some times she vomits after a
feed. Anyone suggest a different formula?

    TIA

DS2 has formula a few feeds a week, and we use NAN Gold HA 1
Its not the cheapest, but its what independant LC I saw recommended as a good option for a bf bub.
DS1 had seom formula as well and its what we used for him. We never went up to the '2' though as I found it constipate him.

Have to second the nan HA1 gold - the hospital said it was the best formula to use if you were combining BF and FF. We stuck with it when we had to go to exclusive FF and it's been the only formula that doesn't land us in puke city when Sam has it.

Is there a reason you're using the LF formula, Bek?

When I weaned DS I used the Nan Gold HA1 and it worked well... I am still using the Nan Gold HA2 for him at 18m... It is a bit $$$ but I get it at Chemists Warehouse and it is less there...

I have tried the Karicare HA and DS didnt seem too bad with it.

When I spoke to a tresillian nurse she suggested using the HA formula, as it is easier for them to digest...

I was told to use NAN HA Gold. My DD took it to no problems. Hopefully you will be able to find one.

Thanks Ladies, my SIL recommended Nan as well.

BW - I used LF because my other girls were lactose intolerant so I figured that I should just start Eva on this one. That is the only reseason.

I'd still suggest trying Eva on the nan HA. Sam has a bit of a dairy intolerance (I don't know if it's lactose, but it's puke city if he has cheese or yoghurt) and is fine with it. It comes in small, single-serve sachets if you want to get a small amount to try before getting a big tin. Chemist warehouse seems to have them, but I have also seen them in other places.

If you ring nestle they can tell you which pharmacies stock the sachets. none of the ones near me do, but they found one near my work that does.
Any pharmacy should be able to order them for you, but I found the ones I asked were uncooperative.

Bubba #5 was exclusivly on EBM, and when my supply dropped and I needed to comp feed, his surgeon recommended Bellamy's Organic Formula.

It is very light on the tummy, and doesn't even smell like formula. He didn't even seem to notice the difference.
When I got my supply up, he went straight back to EBM no worries. When mixed, the Bellamy's is quite watery like BM, so he didn't go from something quite thick, back to something watery...

Good luck finding one thats suits your bubba, it can be trial and error sweets.....

Bellamy's is the only one my BF'd DS would accept...it has a much nicer taste (and smell) than S-26 or Karicare. It was a real battle to get him to accept a bottle of formula. I didn't start him on it till he was about 8 months and he was both FF'd and BF'd until 12 months...but then still BF'd until 20 months...I couldn't get him off!

BFing did not work out at all with DD so I had her on Bellamy's as well from about 6 weeks because of the success I had with DS. Then we were on holidays when she was about 3 months and ran out...panic! So we bought NAN Pro 1 (not the HA, just the normal one) and it tasted and smelled almost exactly the same as Bellamy's...she took to it with no problems...and started sleeping through the night as well. So we stuck with NAN. My MCHN was very happy with this, because she liked NAN and Heinz and was a bit cautious about Bellamy's because she didn't know much about it.

I would happily use either one again.

Bellamy's is harder to find, generally you can only get it at big supermarkets or online. NAN is everywhere but don't buy it from the supermarket, it is more expensive there than anywhere else, and Big W not much better. Chemists are always cheapest, I find.

When I had DD and had to comp feed her, I was told by the hospital staff that Nan is the closest in consistency to breast milk. DD never had any problems on it.
