Question Is this getting too close to constipation?

We started DD out on Karicare Gold which made her constipated (pellets). So we switched her about a week ago to S26 Gold (which is what DS was on) and now she is grunting and groaning so much when she is pooing. Thought I was in for something really unpleasant before after 20 minutes of groaning, red face, pushing etc, but when I took off her nappy, I could basically peel the poop out of her butt crack it was that solid. Is this getting too much like constipation? She only goes about once a day, 2 if she's lucky!!

She is on colic relief for wind too if that makes a difference?

So just not sure if we should try another brand or just use the normal S26 not the gold. Opinions welcome!!!

I think the Gold formulas tend to cause constipation. I think you might need to try the non-gold S26.

With my first DS, the doctor suggested I also give about 10ml of water a day to help keep him regular as he was prone to constipation. This seemed to do the trick for him. He was on S26 Gold basically from birth.

Gold formulas often cause constipation (and other problems). I'd ditch the gold and use a straight formula hun. It might not help, but it probably will.

I"m not a fan at all of watering down formula - especially not in a newborn. I would ditch the gold formula, use plain old S26 and keep up with the colic relief (is it brauers? that helps with the poos too).

I wouldnt reccomend watering down formula.
Gold formulas do often constiape babies.
not a good idea to swap formulas much but as u have tryed 2 golds would suggest s26 and wait for gut to settle down

colic formulas can help or coloxyl drops

Yeah, I meant to say too, I wouldn't recommend watering down formula, especially for such a littlie.

Mel, we had DS on S26 Gold for months, and it caused all sorts of dramas, but we didn't know it was the formula! DH accidentally bought the ordinary S26 once and I decided to use it anyway.........wouldn't you know it, all our problems disappeared overnight, never to reappear! When I told my MCHN she wasn't at all surprised, and said it was another black mark in her book for gold formulas

I'll be trying the normal one then, will get DH to pick it up tomorrow.

    Thanks guys!!!

Where do you get the Brauers stuff? Sounds worth a try!

I think I might try non-gold too. But my LO is on NAN HA formula because they said this would help constipation...is this right? I don't want to swap formulas a lot and I'm not sure which one (non gold) to try!!

Jessica - if he is on the Nan already, maybe just try the normal one of that? Oh and you get the colic relief stuff from the chemist.

Brauer's can be brought at most all chemists and health food shops.

So how is so going now Mel? Do you think there is some improvement?
