How can i get rid of bee's???

We have just moved to a new house and we have a not so nice bee and wasp problem at our back door (which is kinda of our main enterance and where ds plays outside)

I can not find a nest anywhere, just a good dozen bees and wasps that are just chillin out there. We spray them with spray stuff but they just keep coming back, and when ever we open the door to go in or out one or two will make their way inside. I am particularly worries coz DH was allergic to bees when he was little (one of those apparently grew out of it things) and while DS has been stung once a few months back at the old house and didnt react, i am still worried!!!

Is there any magic trick to repell them??????

My DH bought a spray that kills them instantly. One spray and the literally drop where they are. Problem is to get rid of them permanently you need to find the nest and spray that.

Are they attracted to a certain bush/shrub that is near the backdoor? Perhaps you could take those plants out and they might move along?

Are they the little native bees, or honey bees?
Your council should be able to give you info for a beekeeper who will get them for you but usually you do that if theres a swarm or hive.
Not that I'm downplaying it, but there will be a cost to you for them to come out - they may be able to find the hive/nest though.

Bees and wasps have very different attractors. For the wasps it might be worth spraying the house for spiders - their main food source for their babies. For the bees, finding out if it is a plant attracting them is a good suggestion. Alternatively, you could find a plant they like, and put it somewhere out of the way to redirect them that way.

Cquin.. What was the spray called?? Is it just a regualr one you can buy from woolies or something???

I am not sure if they are native ones ro not.. and there arnt any shrubs or bushes anywhere near the door, so i dont think thats it.. spiders yes.. so i might try that idea!!

I think we have to have a good look for the nest, there would have to be one somewhere!!!

For the bees, have a look in the yellow pages or online and see if there are any local bee keepers who would be willing to relocate them for you. Sometimes they will do this for free, as they get a new hive out of it,, othertimes they might charge a small fee. But it never hurts to give them a ring and see. The problem is that you will not get rid of them unless you get rid of the queen bee.

For the wasps, you really need to find the nest and remove or relocate it. Again, you won't get rid of them until you can locate where they are living. Sometimes they nest in the guttering or other small tucked away places in and around the house.

You last option is an exterminator, but they can be $$$$

Hey sb, my dad had bees in his possum box...maybe see what he did...cause I think he did spray at one point...but maybe check with him?

I had a bee problem last year, but it was a swarm so had to get a beekeeper out. He caught all the bees and the queen. We still get the odd half a dozen or so because they like a certain tree in the backyard and the water in the pond. The swarm was just random in that the queen picked up and decided to relocate to my BBQ! The beekeeper said, they have to catch the queen to get all the bees and they take them away. Cost me $135 and much more humane and less expensive than pest control.
