Have a close look to see if any leaves are stuck together. If so you might have a green worm inside which eats the insides of plants. Snails are another problem with these plants.

Tie the leaves together up the top with a bit of wool so that it looks like a neat parcel.

Asked DH and he said it sounds like slugs have done this. It has been a really good time here for snails & slugs due to all the rain we have had.
