So we're off to the nursery this morning to get some vegie seedlings. They will be in full northerly sun in summer in Melbourne, and in pots (well the long pots IYKWIM!)
I would like something the kids can see grow, and then eat themselves.
You got a couple on that list Good luck, I am keen to hear how they go, since we moved house last May I have had no luck growing vegies except for peas.
You can get beans that are self supporting and grow up not out if that makes sense, like a little bean bush. I planted some from seeds and as yet we've had a great crop from them and they havent gone wild. Cant say the same for the tomatoes or zuchinni though
In pots you can grow lettuce (cos) we grow this all year on our deck, spinach, silverbeet, orange, lemon, capsicum, herbs. You can grow dwarf beans just make sure you stake and string them.
We had no luck with carrots this year in the ground so might try rolly polly carrots next.
Our peas stayed under control in a long pot on our back decking, the girls loved that they could pick and eat them straight off the vine, I just 'told' the peas where to grow by weaving them my way and tying when needed.
