Have just noticed the possums have started on the (still-green) apples again. I was hoping since the drought has broken that they would be off munching elsewhere, but they're back!
There are still a couple of untouched branches on the tree - can I cover each cluster of fruit and if so, what's the best thing to use? Can they get through pantyhose (that's what Nanna used to put over her grapes, it kept the birds off really well)? Could I use something like some calico bags?
I have problems with possums at my unit block. I had a pot with mint, which I covered with chicken wire - a rectangular pot, and they ate the mint which was sticking out and tried to get into it.
Also they are continually pooing and peeing on my balcony.
It might be too late to do it tonight, but put some metal rings around the trunks of the trees to stop them climbing up them. But do you have an outside light you can leave turned on? they don't like the light at all so that might help. Or some citronella sprinkled around the trees too.
Trill, I don't think the metal rings would work, they walk along the top of the back fence and the apple tree is right next to it. In fact the tricky little buggers have an entire highway of getting around well above ground, I let BFC out to bark at them but they sit there looking at him LOL. Too well fed. The light might work.
