    Weight

I always see things for weight loss, but what about weight gain?
I want to be able to put on some weight but no matter what I do/try/eat I seem to stay at my same weight, and I feel I'm underweight

    Any tips or suggestions?

    TIA

Have you seen a nutritionist, or your dr? You could have a naturally high metabolism, or an underlying condition that slows your ability to gain weight

Are you actually underweight, or do you just feel it?

I should of added the high metabolism

Well I did one of those BMI things a few months back, and at my height I should be about 65-68kgs, But (at the time) I was roughly 50kgs (had sat on this from ages14-20), and since then I have lost weight, due to stress from and at last check I was 46.5kgs, about 2-3 weeks ago

sounds like you have gone through a bit

As I said before, maybe a nutritionist would be the best person to talk to about increasing your weight. You don't want to eat junk food because that won't be healthy for your body. Good luck, let us know how you go with it

Thanks UntoldAngel, I shall give it a go, going to book a dr app soon so I will ask him/her what I can do or try and see if I get a referral to a nutritionist or something.
Will be sure to update once I know what is going on and how I can fix it

mrslancer, i will swap positions with you any day lol, if you want to be 65 kg ill be 50kg...
I second seeing a nutrition, my dh is the same as is my ds, they are both tall, dh about 6.3 and 6o kg and my ds is 4 and is well lets just say the height of a 7 yr old. and his only 17 kg, as soon as they eat, off they go to the loo. I am very envious. lol
Do you drink coffee? anything that makes your bowels move quicker? Maybe back off anything that has laxative effects?

I drink coffee on occasion, only been having a single cup of tea a day lately (no coffee left ) But coffee never really effected me at all. My body burns everything up too fast so half the time I only get bowel movements every other day (sorry for the tmi) I can eat till I feel I am about to explode and with in half an hour to an hour I'm hungry again. It drives me insane!
Is there any natural way to slow down the metabolism? Would rather trying to avoid meds of any kind as I tend to get a bit slack and forgetful with them I also seem to have a very small stomach which also drives me bonkers as I would love to be able to eat a proper full sized meal in one go rather than 2 or 3

mrslancer - well done to you for posting this thread. Why do some people think it's acceptable to criticise underweight people but not overweight people? Or make silly uneducated comments about anorexia. It's just as hurtful.
According to the BMI scale I am underweight. I am approx 10kgs less than i used to be, but i eat and eat and eat. I know it will come back one day, but it does preoccupy me a bit. My life had a few ups and downs in the past 6 or so years and i'm positive that once things settle down, my weight will come back to normal.

I have been told to drink sustagen too, but to be honest i think it's gross and I can't be bothered. It's not endangering my health at the moment, so I'll weight (lol) patiently.

TTC is harder when you are not at an ideal weight. Your body doesn't function as well.

    All the best xx

    Thanks Lenny

I'm hoping mine will settle back to my 'normal' weight soon and then I can work with that
I tested my BMI over a year ago, I would guess it would still tell me the same thing (though maybe that I'm a bit lighter than usual) But at least I know what I want/need to be at and that's a start. And it's good to know I'm not alone in this situation too.
If I find a quick and relatively easy way to fix it I will be sure to let you all know

It can be much harder to put on weight if you have a really sensitive full switch, some people find it virtually impossible to overeat. Like they are unable to override the full messages from their brains. Increasing your appetite is tricky if it is not there - can take quite a long time and lots of work.
Some tips to increase weight is too eat often and plan your food during the day so you don't skip anything! Add drinks with calories at meal and snack times - so milkshakes and hot choc etc. Also try to load your calories - so full fat milk and cheese (providing you do not have any cholesterol/other heart conditions in your family). If you can manage add as much cream/cheese to meals so things like scrambled eggs/omelettes, ice cream in smoothies and milkshakes ITMS.
You should try and add as much healthy fat as possible - so salmon, avocado and nuts. Also add some supper before bed.
Agree you should eliminate any underlying thyroid conditions and get a diet plan. Good luck it is pretty hard when you don't get much support.

Thanks Mak, I'll give it a go.
I already eat often and can usually go beyond my full point if the food is really good I think my main issue with getting full fast is I eat fast. Sometimes when I get full I will end up slowly picking at my food and can fit more in, or if I eat slowly in general I can eat more as well.

hhhmmmm funny thing is when dh has asked our local gp about things to slow it down, they said its very rare to find anything that actually works.. Maybe go to a health food store and ask them about it, sounds exactly like my dh, excpet he goes to the loo maybe 3-4 times, same as my ds. I actually was asking my ds's specialist the other day and he said Not that he knows of, due to ds being so tall and his weight his bones pertrude out and you can see his veins etc lol bit ewwwyy.. But he said people with fast metabolisms where blessed lol.. It must be frustrating though, as much as its frustrating losing weight, i dont think anyone realises what its like trying to put it on and keep it on...

My oldest brother is the same, He is about 6"6, really skinny (more than me!) but my other brother, the middle child, is of "normal" build and has no issues with losing weight or gaining it.
I hope I can find a way to get to a 'healthier' weight! Then clothes can fit me properly!!

    Thank you for the help!

Hunny when i'm training really hard I have the same thing. You can buy a pure carb powder and add that to food. Add it to a protein shake (or buy one with high carbs). PP was right...not junk food because you'll do yourself more damage.

Just remember carbs are your friend lol. Do you train at all? Also good fats, Avocad, nuts, Olives, salmon etc

I had to put on weight when I was younger. I'm 65kg now, but was 39kg. I grew really fast and wasn't in to eating and lost heaps of weight.

Go to the chemist and buy some poly-jule (sp?) and some sustagen. Thats what I used. They worked wonders.

You can get medicare funded nutritionist appointments, like the mental health plans, through your GP.

    Hi,
I would see your GP as well as a nutritionist. I am in the same boat and had to have various medical tests to rule out medical conditions. Everything was ruled out. I then had to keep a food diary to give my nutritionist an idea of what I was eating in a day, but that was all normal too.

Now I am currently working on building my muscle tone to fill myself out a bit and give me the extra weight. Nothing I did or could have done would have made me put weight on and maintain it, so this is my only option.

Don't worry about turning into a body builder that takes a lot of work and protein and special body building exercises. I do mainly dancing and calisthenics to build up my abdominal, gluteal (buttock) and quadricep (thigh) muscles.

The thing I found the hardest were the comments other people made about my lack of weight, and the fact it seems to be socially acceptable to make comments about being too skinny but not too fat. It hurts.

    Good luck!

I didn't see your answer before
What I always get is "I wish I was as skinny as you" And things along those lines, But I don't like it It's not fun for me.
I have had people try and accuse me of being anorexic or bulimic but they soon stopped accusing when they saw how much/often I ate and the fact I didn't run off to the loo after
I just want to look/feel healthy and have clothes fit me properly!! I float between sizes and depending on the brand I have to even start looking in the kids section(the largest size) for pants that wont fall off my non-existent hips
