Wearing Glasses..

ive had glasses since i was 15.. never wore the things but i had them..
i have had them fixed and refixed many times with every intension to actually wear them.. never did.
I have noticed probably over the last 12 months my eyes are much worse than they used to be (cant see far away.. up close isnt flash either but its the far away one that scares me)
i should obviously wear them when i drive..

so i got them re-re-re-refixed not long ago (im going to guess about 6 months ago?) one of the problems is i dont like the glasses.. and DH wont let me buy new ones i mean i totally understand we dont need to spend the money the glasses arent even bad looking ones i just dont like them on me.. i think they are too small for my face (everyone has told me that they look nice.. but people have a habit of telling little white lies to make you feel better)
the other problem is when i put them on and wear them for awhile, i feel a little giddy walking around.. dtms? the optomitrist did tell me when i went to get them this last time that i might feel a kind of pulling in one or both eyes but once my eyes get used to seeing properly that goes away?

My mother is nearly legally blind.. and this scares me.. i have to just suck it up and wear them. its funny when i see people with glasses i dont even notice but when i wear mine i feel like every is staring at them.. im so shallow i know

If you've had them for that long then it's possible you need a new prescription in them by now. I would be getting my eyes checked again because you may really need a new pair of glasses and wearing ones with the wrong prescription wont do you any good at all. Specsavers are pretty cheap so maybe go there?

Hun, I live in Caboolture, and I've got a few old frames... if you like them you can take them and get new lenses put in them, if you want.

I have worn glasses now for nearly 10 years. The first day or so you might feel giddy on your feet, but it gets better very quickly until it feels totally normal.

Please do get your eyes retested and wear glasses (or get contacts). I have lost family members to car crashes and it's really quite sad that it could have been prevented.

yeah i might go down to spec savers and have a look and see about costs..
i WANT to wear them, i just dont like the ones i have.
when i was younger i didnt want to wear them for obvious 15 year old reasons. but now i just dont want to look rediculus in these ones haha.

Thanks Tan i got them redone 6 months ago.. but only wore them a few times then stopped, so im thinking my eyes need new presrciptions..
ill pull my finger out.. might have them by christmas haha

YOu can get some really funky resin frames too - mine are a dark blue on the outside, but they are lime green on the inside of the frame and they look awesome!

Not sure how old you are hun but I know that my optometrist said that they tend to get progressively worse til you hit around your 30s and should steady off after that - exactly what happened to me with only slight fluctuations after I turned 30, ahem 5 years ago. Might be the case that they will change a bit before they settle if you are a spring chicken unlike myself!

Do you have PHI? If so, you can get some at alot of Specsavers and not pay anything at all

I love, love glasses. I make them part of my fashion accessory.
When you say, re re fixed, do you mean old lenses into new frames? If so, then that could be the cause of your giddiness, they could be off axis slightly.
Get them tested at least, that is Bulk Billed on Medicare, then go from there.
Make sure if you don't want to get them that day, you ask for your prescription to take.
I have a friend who buys his online, he always looks great.

I think you should definately either get brand new glasses or at least wear the ones you have if your prescription is current. I just got new glasses & it took a week or two to get used to. My prescription hadn't even changed much.

If you are driving, it is very important that you wear your glasses. Just consider the safety of your DD. And since your location says you're on the Sunny coast, think of the safety of MY DD!!!

FWIW, I think glasses look hot. AND make you looks heaps smarter. Well they make me feel smarter anyways.

Hun I am a 4 eyes too and it really sucks sometimes. A few things that are totally JMO so tell me to jump if you want to, but firstly, glasses aren't just a luxury for people like us who have to wear them all the time, and so you really want something that you are comfortable in. If they are making you feel unwell, I would be going back to talk to your optometrist, I would imagine that after 6 mths they should have settled by now and not be still causing any issues. Changes in script can make you feel a bit odd at times, I know with my contacts they do that too. Secondly, if you don't like the glasses and the way they look get new ones. You aren't going to wear them if you hate them, yes it is an expense however it is your health involved and there are plenty of places that do really reasonably priced budget specs like Big W and SpecSavers etc. You might even get one of those 2 for 1 deals.

I know what you mean about people noticing, I have been wearing mainly contact lenses for the past 15 years, and my eyes have finally had enough so I have had to switch and wear my glasses most days and contacts on special occasions where I used to do the opposite and wear contacts all day every day and glasses just at home. Anyway I do feel more conspicuous with them on and feel like people notice them but other than tell me they like them(they are brown with bright Cadbury purple inside!) Im sure they just get used to seeing them on me but I still feel funny at times. The health of your eyes is far more important than any cost involved as far as Im concerned, so make an appointment to get them rechecked, ask about the dizziness/giddyness and save up for some that you love and will wear all the time!! oxoxox

Don't forget if you haven't worn them much it does take a bit of time for your eyes to get used to wearing them - I started in yr 4 and I know I had headaches for a week or so while getting used to them

i work at an optometrist. definitely get your eyes retested if you are not happy.
i wear glasses and have for 15yrs. i love my glasses and love getting new ones. i also know what its like to have ones you hate.
you obviously really do need to wear your specs so please do. it terrifies me when people say they should wear glasses but just dont.

I recently got glasses (a couple of months ago) for driving and watching movies. Apparently I was only borderline for actually needing glasses but I decided to get some, my Mum also got glasses at my age and my brother just recently also (we are 16months apart). It took a while to get used to remembering to put them on and then wearing them as they were a little uncomfortable/awkward at first and my head felt a bit fuzzy but it passes pretty quick and becomes second nature. Just gotta push through that first few times!

I wear specs for work (when I'm working that is) as my line of work is fully computer based. I'm long sighted. My prescription is minimal but I do notice quite a difference when I don't use my glasses despite being able to actually read fine without them. My eyes ache and get very tired and I get headaches too so my glasses put a stop to those issues.

Anyway, call me weird but I've always loved specs!! I was thrilled when I finally needed to get a real pair as I had a fake pair I use to wear out as a fashion accessory! They were electric blue resin and I got loads of compliments on them My first lot of glasses came from Just Spectacles which do a 'buy one get one free' deal. Not sure if they have them where you are but I had two pairs of Jag glasses that were pretty spiffy back then (11ish years ago).

A few years back I upgraded to my current specs which are a gorgeous rectangular framed, dark tortoise shell Prada pair. I love them! I have PHI so they didn't cost me a great deal out of pocket at all.

My tip for buying glasses is to definitely shop around as some of the sales assistants are so much better than others at helping you find the frames to suit your face and personality. The lady who helped me (at OPSM, where I got tested and bought my specs) was excellent.

I've just dug out my specs again as my eyes are playing up with this pregnancy. I'm actually getting them tested again this Saturday, at OPSM, which will be free as they bulk bill. A lot of places do that now. You can get tested at a bulk billing place and take your script elsewhere to buy your glasses too which is great if you find cheaper, more suitable specs elsewhere.

Anyway, enough of my rambling. Get tested again as your script will most likely have changed and then shop around for frames. You may be pleasantly surprised at how little they can cost at some places.

I got my first pair of glasses when I was 13 and have worn them all day, every day since then. I love my glasses, they are a fashion accessory for me and I love getting new styles every couple of years. I generally get a "buy one get one free" set, and at the moment I have 1 black pair, one red pair, and some prescription sunnies all in rotation. You do get used to the feeling of them being there and I'm glad you are getting retested because I am honestly a bit shocked that you are not wearing them when driving if you need them. Maybe your eyesight is not as bad as mine but I certainly couldn't see traffic signals, cars indicating or kids about to run into the road without mine. I second everyone else in that specsavers have great deals. It is a pain having to pay for new glasses but if you don't wear them then you are putting your eyes under added strain and will only make your eyesight worse.
