Anyone care to share their experience with me?

Last year I was meant to have one (due to 3 abnormal paps in a row, each 6-12 months apart), but I fell pregnant and the hospital wouldn't do it.

After I had bub, the hospital sent off another referral and yesterday I received a letter to say they will be doing it next month.

I'm hate paps, and I'm scared to have this done and even more so if they find something

I have had quite a few done over the years as I had abnormal cells they were monitoring which they did end up removing. Each time it always showed a lesser abnormality than the Pap smear showed (I was on 6monthly checks) until the last time when they removed them (the monitoring went on for 4 years) I found the procedure more uncomfortable than painful and I was also in my early 20's so found the having to have my legs in stirrups wide open part the worst. They are a pretty quick procedures as well. I also had biopsys taken with all of mine and that is the only ouchy part but it is more of a quick sting. The only part I truly hated was the smell when they cauterise the biopsy spot.

Em hit it on the head. It's more uncomfortable than painful. I didn't have to have a biopsy done, I'm due for a follow up check after bub is born in August.

I've had one too, awkward, scary but more uncomfortable than anything else. My weird Dr waved the bit of cervix in my face in a plastic bag to show me it as well, lucky I didnt punch him in the face, the moron. Mine was all clear and that was 7 years ago and I had CIN ii and CIN III at the time. Regular paps after are a must xxx good luck hun.

Ha mine did that too! TWICE!! Lucky that stuff doesn't gross me out so I wasn't too phased!

I've had 2 and like the others said it doesn't really hurt but is a bit uncomfy. To me it felt the same as a regular pap only it went for longer.
    Good luck x

It doesn't hurt as such just uncomfy.
I've had about 6 of them and two laser treatments a couple of years before becoming pregnant.
Best to get it looked at and monitored. I had CIN3 and verging on cancerous. I had the 2nd laser and then the HPV injection to assist the cells.
All gone within a year from 2nd laser!

It's ok hun, just think of it as a long pap smear with as much discomfort but the benefit is that you have caught the cells early and that is a really good thing that it's picked up, being monitored and treated. xoxox

No, thank you for sharing MLR

It needs to be done, just don't want to do it. In my mind id rather work on 'what I don't know, can't hurt me'.. But reality is, that's stupid and can't think that way

I didn't find it any worse than a pap. They were really gentle and put it up on a screen so I could see what they were doing - was really interesting. I was given the all clear and am now back to 2 yearly tests

I recently had a colposcopy too.

It was a little uncomfortable but not painful & my doctor was great - talked me through it and even put my cervix up on the tv screen for me to see what was going on in there.

The more relaxed you are the better it will be.

    Hope you will be ok.

I actually found it easier than a pap and didn't feel anything. So many of us have been thru it and are now fine so go get it over and done with so you can stop worrying.(hug
