Rules are Winter - if one person pikes out - we have to start the count back to zero :D (Les Mills rules - but I'll take them on board!). Glad you got your Combat fix in the end - nothing better than feeling smashed after a class - I love that high it gives me!
MG - hun, whats up? Are you feeling better now? You have me worried!
AFM - Thanks for asking MG, yep Senior First Aid completed and passed easily enough. We had an Australian olympic gold medalist in the course - from Athens, so that was cool. I've been riding the calorie killer with RPM yesterday and I will again this evening - I don't have anything else much to report - you know me, just cruising along - I always get the exercise in whether I feel like it or not - I always feel 100 times better after doing it :D.
-
Gonna name names Leesa? How exciting!!!
-
Just did a class called 'fat burner', ouch. I'm hurting!
Did combat yesterday and Sunday. I am addicted i think.
Really need to work on my pelvic floors. I thought they were ok, but high impact proved otherwise.......
-
Go JungleMum!!! :cheer:  for high intensity
Poor pelvic floor! It'll get there. I'm hoping that oneday I'll be able to sneeze without worrying too!! :)
-
Well done Jungle Mum! I agree with Winter that it will get better if you do all the right things :)
Winter - well done on your Combat class! You're scaring me though! I want to do one but not sure I have what it takes
Lisa - thanks hon. I'll be ok. Just a funk. I get them every now and again when I'm not getting the results I want or my fears get the better of me. And to top it off, I had to hand over my exercise and food diary today. With my 1Kg weight gain. I'm dreading the lecture next session. I only have myself to blame but not a nice feeling. D mentioned today he "knows I hate exercise" but he is so wrong. I LOVE it. I just don't like doing it in the gym. I use to be a dancer so exercise is a release for me. I just don't like the the negative pain associated with my back and how that impacts on my work and life. It's all a bit complex (I think I went into some of it in my blog) and I am very lucky I have a good trainer who knows and understands my issues... just a shame he's a HE and young and a bit... well... young () at times! He made a comment today that was a bit hurtful although I know he was joking. But don't worry... I can hold my own!
Who did you do your First Aid with? I used to instruct with St John over in SA (many moons ago).
-
Hello everyone! Can't do personals tonight - on the mobile phone internet while the computer's at the shop.
Managed to convince DH about the morning walk! Am eager to get started first thing tomorrow!!
Heard on the radio this morning that a local gym foes some of these classes (combat, I think?)
-
MG - So is the any form of dancing class you could do these days? Or maybe thats something to aim for? Yep, St John in SA - trainers name was Bruce Gould whose been around for 40 odd years, so you may have crossed paths with him?
Nettie - Go and give Combat a crack? Please!!! Your feet are ok to walk now are they? Don't push it - but I do look forward to hearing about your invigorating morning walk tomorrow :D.
Winter - Why not, his name is Ben Hall - he won a gold medal in the relay (track) Athens. I picked out he must have represented Oz somehow as he had the official backpack with him and I recall seeing it while watching the Olympics, and yeah, during the introductions hes so modest and says 'well, yeah, I guess we did ok' - the trainer says 'did you win any medals' and Ben's like 'oh yeah, we won a gold medal' :o. I'm thinking 'dude, you won GOLD - talk yourself up' - but he was quite shy!
-
 Have met both of those ppl Lisa ;) I was around for a bit, it was how I met DD's Daddy. He was rather high up the food chain... Funny how modest Ben is!
I don't think I'd ever go back to dance Lisa. It was a long time ago and was a very significant part of my life. It was my escape pod from some pretty harsh stuff I went through and also very taxing. I gave it away because I damaged both ankles pretty badly and they couldn't take the punishment any more. But dancing was an obsession... I don't really have room in my life for obsessions any more!
Nettie, how did your walk go? :cheer::bluecheer:
Winter, how are you feeling today?
AFM, I have work today *yawn*. This shift makes it hard for me to do treadmill at home but I have physio after work for pilates so I'm not too cut up about missing my treadmill session today.
Tomorrow I'm on the late shift so not sure if I will get a session in or not. I will try sneak a look at the list for tomorrow before I leave tonight and see how bad it looks. If it looks brutal I'll skip a session, if it looks good I'll do a light session before work. Last time I did a heavy session before a late, I literally spent my whole shift running (it was the shift from hell!) and it took me a good 2 days to recover!
Friday I have a PT session with D. Hopefully it will be a good one. I'm still in two minds about going to it. Hopefully I will be more at peace by Friday so I CAN go and kick butt. Otherwise I will cancel Fri morning and do stuff at home Friday night!

hi all,
sorry i have been MIA of late.. you girls with all your motivation and getting into it kinda put me to shame with not getting my ass off the couch! :-) but today i went to gym and did a pump class, it was great. just have to get it into a routine now.
i have a lunge question.. i hate them. i think i am doing them wrong. where are they supposed to be felt? i seem to feel mine in my calf of the behind leg and it really cramps up. what am i doing wrong? also, they kinda hurt my knees and my bending knee just doesnt seem to smoothly go down. is there an alternative to these?
-
Hello everyone :wiggle:
Well I went for my walk this morning and it felt good. Did quite a short one (about 20 - 25 minutes) so that I didn't do any damage!
Getting a bit tired now from getting up so early (6.30am :o ), but not sore in any way!
Leesa, I will look into Combat. Not sure I heard correctly - but will let you know!
-
Quick post before bedtime. Body Balance for me today, Combat tomorrow. Feeling tired, but determined to go. Have Mothers Group afterwards so want to have done something before the coffee / biccies :)
Glad you got your walk in Nettie! :cheer: Will check in tomorrow to see how you go with another walk & see how you're feeling.
Hi Hollo - Leesa or CQueen will prolly check in and answer your lunge questions. Did you ask your instructor at the end / before class to check your lunge? Might help to see if you're doing it right?
Night everyone else! :) MG, Leesa, CQ, JungleMum, Miss Heather, Leckert :hello:
-
Hi ladies!
Hollo - kneel on the ground and put one bent leg in front of your body (so it looks like an upside down capital 'L'). Take a look at the alignment (if you have a full length mirror - use it - it'll make this process much easier ;)). The knee should be 'stacked' directly above the ankle. With the leg at the rear, tuck your toes under and push yourself upwards (initiate the move by pushing through the front heel - wiggle your toes and you'll have no choice but to push up thru the heel) leaving a slight bend in the front knee.
Then lunge down again...the trick is to make sure your rear knee is going straight down to the floor, and stop when your knee is about 10 - 20 cms off the floor (like a lift that travels up and down, not the escalator that goes diagonally up and down). At the lowest part of the lunge look over your front knee, can you see your toes? Look side on in that full length mirror - is your knee still 'stacked' over the ankle. If you have the 'L' shape going on and can see your toes you're doing correct - if not, make the adjustment so you can.
Have you any previous calf injuries? You certainly shouldn't be feeling any pain in them - and certainly no cramping either. You should be feeling the muscles around your booty activate (the leg that is in front is doing the work). Is your rear heel lifted and facing straight on during the lunge?
Nettie - I'm so so so so proud of you hunny! Awesome effort!
CQ - where are you sista? You have me worried here!
Winter - well done for sticking with ya program. Enjoy Combat tomorrow and enjoy those biccies knowing that you're burning them off at a higher rate as you'd done Combat earlier! Good planning!
MG - what sort of stuff does your PT get you to do? All sorts of unpredictable things or what? I like to compare notes from time to time lol!
-
Morning Girls!
Well done on the walk Nettie! How are ou feeling today?
Winter - well done on your efforts! Have fun in class today! I used to walk 3Km to Mother's Group so I could have coffee and cake ;)
Leesa - how are you travelling? I'm just skimming for something whilst I eat breakky so will come back later (when I'm less foggy) to tell you what D makes me do. You may just need to remind me...
AFM, I didn't do a work out last night. I cancelled my physio session because I was in a feril mood after a feril day at work and just couldn't stand having my physio in my space last night. Don't get me wrong, I really like her... I'm just not one for ppl to be suddenly out of the blue touching my body... D and I have been working together for 10 months (approx) and even he can't!!!! Anyways, I did some home pilates and stretching last night to half compensate. Tday I prob won't do anything because right now I'm struggling to stay awake... and I haven't even gotten to work yet! ARG.
Have a great day ladies!
-
MG hope you're feeling better tomorrow for the training/physio session you've got booked.
I managed to get 1/2 hour on the Wii fit today. I had a bit of fun trying to hula hoop - glad no one could see  and did a few stretches too. Still waiting for a phone call to have a contract teaching/teacher librarian position for this year  as it didn't come this morning (too many permanent teachers in the SA Ed dept system and I'm not one of them )
-
Hope you got that phonecall Leckert! And the job :cheer:
OM Goodness! I just did Combat & the instructor decided that we needed to get ready for Release 43 - which apparently is a killer - so we did lots of high intensity stuff with little recovery. I got a heart rate monitor and wore it today. Average heart rate was 167bpm over 57 mins. I peaked at 187bpm andf my watch was beeping at me as I set the max heart rate to 180bpm! I think I'm going to have to get fitter or 43 is going to kill me!!
CQ & Leesa - will you be learning this new release too?
-
Hey Winter - ssshhhh, but I'm skipping Combat this round - as I teach 6 out of 8 programs it can get really expensive - especially considering I only do fill in classes (don't tell CQ :hide: ). So this round I'm going with Attack, Jam, Pump and RPM. I set my HRM to a % rate so I know once I get to about 90 - 92% I'm at my near limit ;). BEST accessory to work out with aren't they? What sort did you get?
Leckert - I seriously hope you get a phone call soon - waiting can be totally agonising, I'm waiting for an email to get onto a course for work...Us government depts like to take our time, don't we! Grrr.
MG - I'm sorry to hear you had a shocker of a day hun. Fitness professionals should be asking your permission firstly whether they can go hands on with you or not. That was drilled into us big time! I'm cruising along nicely thanks, I found an online quiz that'll give me 2 'professional development points' for FREE last night. In order to be registered with Kinetc Australia fitness professionals must earn a certain number of PDP's each 2 yr period....So instead of having to pay for a course - just outlaid the $$$ for the Snr First Aid course - I don't have too anymore :D.
-
OT but: got ph call this evening and I head in tomorrow but without a contract (will be back dated when it all works out)
-
leckert - YAY!:dance: Congrats for job honey!!!!
Winter - well done! You will get fitter soon hon! Did you love the class though?
Leesa - I know, but in her defense, it is part of the deal really - to correct technique so I don't hurt myself more... she is a physio afterall... I'm just not comfortable with ppl being in my space all the time. D is a little different. He touches to correct and prevent injury as well... but it is just different. I trust him completely but my past makes it difficult. He knows and respects that which is good.
I've not done anything tonight. I'm in my PJ's already. I haven't cancelled PT yet...I'm going to see how I feel tomorrow at lunch time.
