arent nuts fatty though?
Hollo - I'm the same. It's my diet that lets me down. I need to cut the snacky foods out. And I need to curb my carb intake. I always have toast for breaky. Lunch is usually avocado on rice thins, or tuna on toast, then we usually have potato with dinner!!! I NEED to start having more salads for lunch I think. But I get bored with them. It's hard to find a yummy and filling salad.
Low GI is the way to go. I find that it helps me with cravings. I have noticed that if I reduce my carbs & up my protein I don't get the intense sugar cravings as often. I have tuna on corns thins for lunch a lot and snacks for me tend to be fruit, cheese, yoghurt, chocolate (hey, I'm no angel! :)). I also have started sipping peppermint tea in the evening after dinner and so far so good, sugar cravings have been reduced. I find that if I stick to low GI then when I do have a blowout, it's not as big. I used to snack on cashews a lot but they were part of the problem for me. A snack would be 3 or 4 big handfuls of cashews & I hate to think the energy in them.
For what it's worth, the only diet I ever follow is the Physics Diet. Energy output must be greater than energy input. Think about how many hours at the gym that treat is going to cost you! And if you still really want it, have half.
They are healthy fats Hollo .
I wondered why my salt intake was blowing out on the calorie king website - it was tinned tuna, so I only eat that in moderation, in saying that - its hard to avoid salt these days :wall:.
Breakfast for me is porridge and a banana.
Lunch is mountain bread (they're like thin wraps) and I'll add cherry tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, lettuce, red onion, maybe red capsicum and sometimes a fat free luncheon meat (although high in salt too).
Dinner is baked fish, steamed carrots, peas, pumpkin, brocolli.
Dessert is a fat free yoghurt.
I used to always have potatoes, but at that time in the evening it'd just sit in my guts and because I'd fill up on potato I wouldn't eat the other vegies as much. So I've gone cold turkey on potatoes now, and I dont really miss them either.
You'll notice I don't have snacks - probably because I drink stacks of water each day, and that keeps me feeling full. If I do need a snack its usually a handful of almonds, an apple, some rockmelon or watermelon etc - nothing fancy.
I am quite happy to eat the same thing day in and day out, instead of fish for dinner we may have chicken (baked) instead. I vary the vegies and fruits I eat - and thats about it. Once a week we'd have red meat too - but thats it. Sorry, I'm boring in the food dept .
I have Jalna yoghurt for breakfast, some cheese on crackers for morning tea, tuna salad for lunch, whatever's on for tea (we try to have veggies every night, but often accompanied by fried meat or in a curry or something).
This is what I was eating when I lost all my weight. Portion size was the main thing - I would stop eating when I was full (even if there was only 2 spoonfulls left) and I drank at least 2 litres of water every day (plus coffee/tea but replaced with extra water).
Still had chips/chocolates/treats if I REALLY felt like them - but again, portion conrol. I wouldn't have a whole chocolate bar or packet of chips. Even if I ended up throwing out the extra - because it's no more of a waste in the bin than it is in your body if you're not going to use the calories! And if I did have a treat, I would plan for a session of walking/weights/bike to make up for it. Once I learnt this, I would figure out pretty quickly if the cherry ripe was worth 40 minutes on the bike! ;)
My tuna sald isn't boring. It's a tin of flavoured tuna (probably high in salt, but meh!) - I like the greenseas tomato & onion 98% fat free one - a tomato (or better still 4 cherry tomatoes) one iceberg lettuce leaf, a slice of cheese (VERY important to ensure flavour), chunk of red capsicum, chunk of carrot and sometimes some snow peas or celery.
Slice it all up fine (I just ripped the lettuce leaf up) and pour the tuna on. Mix it all together and eat. Probably looks awful, but tastes yummy. I mixed it up by having different flavours of tuna (curry, lemon, pesto, etc). I rarely tired of it (but if I did, I didn't force myself to eat it - I think that's why I'm still a fan!) If I needed a change, I would have a salad sandwich instead.
I think it's terribly important to LIKE the food you're eating. You're much less likely to binge...
