YES MUM!!!! :D
My BMI is 24.2 - so I'm healthy :D.
Oh MG - I forgot to post in my last reply - I am focussing on the needles entering my body, and as they twist them the pain in my hip is releasing....ah, to be the human pin cushion . BUT, I'll try physio first and see what he / she thinks re acupuncture. As long as it fixes my hip I'll do (almost) anything....
DOH - now I have that "i'd do anything, for you dear, anything, coz you mean everything to me' song from Oliver Twist in my head"!!!!
-
 Lisa! But *shakes fist at you* now I have that song stuck in my head!!! I like how you think about accupuncture! When I stretch, I visualise my joints opening up and releasing the nerves and muscles caught in them... Your physio might be able to reccomend a good accupuncturist which would be ideal. I found my physio because my osteo referred me (my original physio then left handing me over to this one, but that's beside the point!).
Now, any more silly talk girls... and I WILL stick on my nursing hat and issue a lecture!

I'm 5 foot nothing - my healthy weight range is 43 - 56kg. I am currently overweight and am looking to get back to the middle of my healthy weight range. My BMI is currently 27 so still too high. Aiming for around 22-24. I really am sensible. The weights I'm aiming for may be small to other people, but I am overweight for my height.
-
Winter - I'm all for healthy weight loss... but don't fall into the trap of "just one more kilo". For me, 75Kg is the highest number in my healthy weight range. I know from experience that is too low for me. I'm healthiest at about 80Kg. My ultimate goal is 80 but my mini goal is 100 (I'm 108 at the moment and have been between 108 and 110 for about 3 months).

hey all,
just checking out my avatar.. dont ya love the dumbell in there.. motivation to keep at it!
-
Love it Hollo!
Sorry gals but i'm backing MG here - we all know not to rely on scales...go yay one for cm off my stomach but not kg's pleeease! I know what i'm looking for and I will really come down on someone if I think they might be obsessing on this thread...i've been there with food and with exercise and trust me I will pick up on it.
I really don't want to put a downer on things and i'm not saying that anyone is getting too carried away but just know that i'm watching lol! And on the flip side if anyone does feel that they're getting a bit too carried away with things then please feel free to chat to me - i'm always here to listen and I will not judge...I don't have all the answers but I can listen...
Love you guys x

Very sensible ladies - I used to get in trouble when I went to the gym for working out past my threshold. One time I would work out til I felt like I would pass out, and then I'd go relax in the sauna so I could catch my breath while my heart rate stayed high - needless to say, that session ended with an ambulance :shakehead:
I worry sometimes that I overuse coping mechanisms, such as exercise - does anyone else feel the same way?
-
Yep, and it's really hard because it is a safe way to get rid of frustrations etc...it's when it becomes extrmeme that it's not healthy...BUT the thing is "extreme" is subjective. Lees and I may do waaay more exercise than the average person but thats because it's our joba dn there is an expectation of fitness, role model weights etc...
Also who's to say that the average person that decides they want to compete in Body Sculpting comps and has to go everyday for hours at a time is extreme. I think really only you know.
When I did the 12 Week Challenge last year I was doing way too much and my health was suffering, some days 4 classes and PT. I was obsessed with getting my bf % to 10 (got to 11) which is ridiculously lean - too lean. But I know that I have a tendancy towards obsession so I know to pull back but it's hard, very hard to know yourself...
ETA - look out for warning signs like lying to people about where you're going, my PT used to check on the national database if i'd been to another gym in the evening (sometimes I got the girls to not swipe me in or try and sneak in **shakes head**) also the femail athlete triad - disordered eating, amenorhea (no periods) and osteoporosis. I'm a bit of a freak, at 11% body fat I still had my period but I have low bone density thanks to 11 years of anorexia...not fun :(
-
well, i'm not even telling you muy BMI! :-(
-
Hollo, just look at your great avvy with the dumbbell! It doesn't matter what your BMI is, the important thing is that you're moving! :cheer:
I don't have the time to become a real gym junkie and not even the desire really. I just want to be back to where I feel really healthy & good. Trust me, I don't have the body to get down to 10% bf!! I store bf!! My boobs, bum, hips, thighs all love a good helping of lard!
-
keeps you warmer in Winter Winter! ;) That's what I tell ppl anyway - I'm just gearing up for winter!
Hollo - I LOVE the new Avvy! Go the dumbell! Motivation - WOOT WOOT!
Berny - ooooo I am so bad. I DO rely on exercise as a coping mechanism. It's how my back got so bad. I was doing well in my recovery and then ran (because I had had a horrid horrid day at work) and put my recovery back 3 months! But I didn't just do it once... D (my trainer) knows that exercise is my coping mechanism but also knows that I (NOW) use it wisely. Running gives me the pounding release I need and I MISS it... these days I'm much better because D has helped me manage it safely.
CQ - I agree no one is getting carried away... but I'll be watching too! haha. My trainer just turned away 2 clients because he felt they were being unrealistic and unhealthy in their goals. It was a mother and daughter duo - the daughter was in her teens. They both weighed what they should for their BMI and were HEALTHY. They BOTH wanted to lose 5-10Kg :o D told them the gym wouldn't support them in that endeavour. They have both joined the gym but can not have PT sessions (all new PT clients have to go through him).
Well girls, I have done my treadmill tonight. I'm very pleased with it! I am FINALLY back at 6.0Km/hr (my hips were so unstable after my last big relapse that I wasn't able to walk that fast due to pain and instability). It felt GREAT!!!! AND I was mostly at an incline of 4 throught my 30 minutes! I probably could have pushed to 45 minutes but wanted to get DD in the shower and into bed. My biggest downfall for tonight was that I skulled 500mls water after my session and have spent the last hour trying not to bring it back up :wall: And my hip flexor stretch HURT so I know it is too tight... it's going to be sore tomorrow! I think D will have to do some work on it Tuesday (he does a WICKED stretch for me!). Tonight I was DRIPPING with sweat from every surface - it was AWESOME!
Can't wait for my session tomorrow!
-
In my defense (:p) I'm at the upper end of my healthy weight range, if I can sit in the middle to lower end of it (giving me a threshold for AF ) I'd be happy, and onto maintaining.
I find if I set a goal at each weigh in then I keep achieving my goals = feeding my motivation. I go by numbers on scales and cm's - sometimes a change in one does not necessarily effect the other, so keeping my options / results open .
MG - any chance you could 'coach' DH to help you with the stretch until you see D on Tuesday?
Hollo - I love the avvy :D
CQ - Rock out at your final Pump training module hun!! I'm sure you'll get cleared to instruct!!
Berenice - Interesting question....I don't think I 'overuse' exercise, yes I do a session each day and two on Saturdays, but I don't call that over the top and I don't do it as a coping mechanism. For me, exercise really is just a part of my life - I have the desire to be able to run and play chasey with the kids, kick a ball on an oval with them and not be gasping for breath. For me, exercise is something I can have just for me - although when I instruct, its about passing my joy of exercise onto participants and making it enjoyable and achievable for them too.....Hmm, I think I have digressed .

    that is one of the funniest things I've heard in AGES! DH doesn't even LIKE the fact that I train (especially with D). Every time I say I'm off to my treadmill downstairs or off to do home pilates or off to see D, I get an eye roll, huff, and he sulks for a few hours. Seriously, he should be more supportive considering how much weight I need to lose and the fact that before DD we were gym junkies together... and I supported him in his 7 day regime to get into the ADF!
I am so so sore this morning girls! Every time I rolled over last night I was in extreme pain in my back (not good!) and my hips were sore all night. This morning my hip flexor's are very very sore. I am going to have to do some serious stretching later!!! And my back is struggling. I can see that if I'm not careful I will relapse. I am a bit worried about it because I haven't really done anything big... if I can't tolerate the quicker walk - how am I going to tolerate a run?! I'm going to have to nut this out with D!
-
Awww, I think its cute DH gets in a huff when you go to see D! My DH responded similar when I said the second massage I was getting that week was from a guy lol! He was the only one left with a free appt and I needed to see if I could get any relief - what could I do?
-
I've got a silly question... what's 'D'? I know what PT stands for - but not D...
Things are a bit slow here but I'm hoping to start my morning walks up again this week - wish me luck!
Hollo - awesome Avvy! ;)
You'll never hear my BMI - it doesn't bother me. I will let you guys know when I get under 100 kgs (will be important to me!) and when I get to 90 kgs (lowest I've ever been as an Adult) - but other than that my guideposts are how I'm feeling... not any measurements. Just how I roll...
Hope everyone has a fab Sunday with some good exercise in it! ;)
-
Sorry Net - D is the initial of my trainers name. I've never revealed his full name for privacy reasons. And I don't go by my BMI either!!! I actually don't believe in the BMI - it should be used as a GUIDE only and not gospel. But I won't go into that ;) Good luck for the walks! Give me an N!:cheer: Give me an E! :bluecheer:
Leesa - you know, it would be cute if it wasn't an ongoing issue and problem.
-
nettie, cant wait to hear when you hit your under 100kg mark!! :-)
thats a good idea, actually. i think i will reveal to you guys when i hit the 80kg mark! i am 93kg at the moment so a fair way to go. 80 is my goal. used to be 75 but i am more realistic now! LOL
ok, diet question... what do you eat when you are snacking? i need to buy some quick, healthy, yummy snacks. not boring like fruit, salad etc. i seem to eat a lot of bread. toast for breakky, sandwhich for lunch etc. i also, tend to snack on DDs treat type things, tiny teddies, etc.
i need to get a handle on it, because i am sick of going to the gym and then not loosing weight cause my diet isnt changing.

I'm a fan of almonds Hollo, they're quite good for you :D.
