ok so I am trying to catch up after not reading posts for a few days. You have all been busy!! so much vomit talk.
And ok, at the risk of sounding extremely stupid (i am new to this pregnancy thing!) - what is a GD test? I think I know enough about how it makes you feel now.. but whats the test for?
Fuzzy: the GD test is the test for gestational diabetes, you have it at about 26 weeks from memory - Ammaki can confirm this :D
You drink a high glucose drink and then an hour later have a blood test to see what your body does with the sugar.
And there are no stupid questions, pregnancy (NOT TO MENTION BABIES) doesn't come with a manual
cherished I have a pasta maker you can use while you decide if it's for you! I have not found a decent non-egg pasta recipe, so ours has not been used for over a year.
Sorry have been off with the fairies! We had a bunch of guests on the weekend, so was flat out with that! We had a great time though, and managed to eat well, in addition to knocking over a 20km bike ride, on my fixie! (so it's more like 30km on a freewheel)
Our dinner tonight was stirfried tempeh, capsicum and gai lan with rice noodles. It was pretty good.
:redface: I ate two lunches today :redface: I had some leftover couscous and pomegranate salad, and leftover minestrone. I thought I'd take both and see which one I felt like at lunch time. Well, I had the salad, and it was great, but I wanted more, so I had the minestrone as well! If I still haven't gained weight by next week, then something is WRONG!
Couscous and pomegranate salad
2 cups couscous
2 cups boiling water
2 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp cumin seeds
1/2 cup sultanas
1/2 cup smashed pistachios
1/2 cup chopped coriander
1 pomegranate, seeds only
3 sweet potatoes, cubed and roasted
big handful of baby spinach.
Put your couscous in a bowl with pistachios and cumin seeds. Add the boiling water and stand.
Chuck everything else in together and toss (I construct it a little bit artistically, but do it however)
haven't much time to post, but just wanted to pop in & nod approvingly at all the chatter about vomit & poo!! Did another good walk today and cooked chicken satay noodles nom nom nom. Bit fatty with the peanuts but ah well. Am trying to be kinda good. Think I could do a little better... bring on tomorrow.
Audax - I'm definitely going to be trying your salad on the weekend. I LOVE pomegranites! They've got to be my favourite fruit. As soon as we moved into our house the very first plant I planted was a pomegranite tree. It's had a couple blooms on it this year, so I am hoping that next year it will fruit for me. I also have a dwarf one in a pot so :crossfigers: between the two of them I should be set for pomegranites once they start to fruit.
Fuzzy - Pretty sure they have everyone do the GD (gestational diabetes test) between 26 and 28 weeks. I've also seen it referred to as the GCT (Glucose challenge test). Try not to worry too much about it making you sick. I've had M/S since day one, so I vomit at the drop of a hat. Most of the people I know who had it found it too sweet, but it didn't make them feel sick.
Belfie - :clap: for the walking. Considering how sick you were just recently I think you're doing pretty good.

Oh I had my 20 week scan yesterday at we found out we are having a girl!! This is our first bub - very excited. She was moving around a lot, opening and closing her mouth and waving her arms. She apparently has long legs which I thought was amusing xx So so happy today!

Fuzzy - Congrats on a little girl. That's great that you had a good scan. Woudl have been great for you two to see her moving around in there. :lol: at her long legs. Make sure that daddy gets ready to fend off all the boys when they start knocking down the door :rofl:
AFM - I'm off to the shops to buy some stuff for the pomegranite salad and to make more pasta (it was super yummy the other night and I think I want some more!)

Audax that's very generous of you hon, I'll give dh's machine a go 1st and see how it turns out, re pasta with no egg, I've sure I made some spelt pasta without egg? I will check the mixture and get back to you. And there's nothing wrong with eating 2 lunches, I have 2 breakfasts most days :D
AFM I've just had a yum banana smoothie for lunch and am thinking I will be needing something more in an hour so need to get my shopping list together and head down to the shops. I'm a little challenged this week as I am cutting out the foods which give me eczema so that means no eggs (not that we really eat them), no oranges (and I really feel like them!) no wheat :o no tofu which we eat a couple times a week and the list goes on... I might have to get creative!
Alrighty I found that pasta with no egg but it's gnocchi so you don't need a pasta maker anyway for that, I figure you've made heaps of gnocchi in your time Audax ;) I made this dish ages ago and it was yum.
Parsnip gnocchi
500g cooked parsnip mushed 1 1/2 cups plain flour (I used seplt flour)
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Method, mix together roll in to a long sausage shape and cut into bite sized bits, flatten with folk, cooks in salted boiling water in about 2 minutes
Garlic herb butter (not very healthy with so much butter!)
100g butter
2 garlic cloved crushed
3 tablespoons lemon thyme
1 tablespoon grated lime zest
Method, melt butter and add the rest.
I put way more garlic and lime zest in mine and used regular thyme. The lime makes it really tangy, I think I may have even added some lemon juice?

Ohhh, I love gnocchi. We are going round to a friends' place tomorrow night for a big batch. Can't wait.
Tonight we had borlotti bean and corn burritos. The old staple in this house! I managed two of them. Now guilting up for a dessert of apple and pear crumble. Gluten free, just cos I felt like it :)
Borlotti bean and corn burritos
1 onion, chopped
1 capsicum, chopped
1 corn cob, kernels off
1 cup borlotti beans, cooked
2 tomatoes, chopped
juice of 1 lime
as much chilli as you fancy
tortilla wraps.
To a frypan over high heat, add onion, stir for a minute til it starts to blacken a little. Add capsicum and lime juice, stir another minute. Add corn, stir. Keep the heat high, to make it nice and smoky. Add the tomatoes, then the beans. Chilli if you're using it.
Wrap up a bit of mix in each tortilla. We have it with tofutti betterthan cream cheese, but sour cream would certainly work.
Apple and pear crumble
1 apple, peeled and chopped
1 pear, peeled and chopped.
Dump these in your small baking dish.
1/4 cup margarine or butter
2 tbsp raw sugar
2 tbsp coconut
the remainder of a packet of GF flour (!) didn't measure, just used what was left
It was about 1/2 cup - I topped up with rice flour, makes it nice and crumbly.
Stir it up and crumble over your crumble.
Serve with ice cream to be completely decadent :D

WOO! weighed myself at the gym after BodyBalance tonight & I haven't put on extra weight since the start of March. I'm not in the slightest dieting, but going to the gym a few times a week is raising my metabolism. I looked at photos of myself from our Baby-Moon in February, and my face was really chubby. I feel so much more energetic now, and my face isn't as chubby. :D Oh, FYI, I was 84kg at 'conception', and am now 93.3kg.

I have to admit, I haven't yet tried the delicious recipes everyone has posted, but hopefully sunday I will cook that pumpkin soup & freeze it for after the baby's born. Some how I doubt I will be in a cooking mood in the first month!
ETA: I plotted the weights (forever the scientist) every month from conception to now & there's a massive leap over february (about 7kgs!)... did I mention I went on a 3-week-long Babymoon in feb... ;)

I've been feeling rotten for quite a few days, feel pretty good today - I did some lavender stalk stripping today and it looks like the lavender has made me feel all better...yay.
I just got back from the supermarket (did a wander around and buy things I feel like eating type shop) this is what I bought (I am SO pregnant)
1 packet sea salt red rock chips
1 packet sea salt and balsamic vinegar red rock chips
1 lemon
5 mandarines
bunch of dutch carrots
Packet of saladas
And I feel like eating all of them now...but I got home and remembered my mum bought me a haighs dark choc covered nougat bar, so I ate that instead. I'll be chomping into those raw carrots very soon. YUM.
I have a poo vomit story, DS dd a poo in his night nappy this morning and when I was changing it, I had to run to the toilet and did a lot of loud heaving but no results....!! DAmn kid poo! it's even ranker when you feel awful.
Hey I want to know who designed pregnancy - who decided it would be a good idea to give you extreme sense of smell (I can smell a dog poo at 50 paces) combined with the ability to heave when you smell something unpleasant??????? DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME. :dunno:
Hey, Kirsten, I am SO with you one the supermarket shop! I went on Saturday and bought
2L soda water
1.5L cranberry juice
1L vanilla soy milk
1 packet rooibos tea bags
1 pkt fruity type tea bags
4 packets of vanilla soy yoghurt
2 bottles powerade
1 jar powerade powder concentrate
I think I might have been a little dehydrated! Everything except the yoghurt was a drink!
I am chowing down on digestive bickies and tea right now. I'm starting to feel better, but I just want crackers. And yoghurt.
Ha ha ha ha Audax: that's awesome...I am wanting juicey fruit and veg too....I would have bought mineral water to go with my lemon, but I know we have 6 bottles already - yum. lemon squeezed into mineral water :)
kirsten & Audax you girls are reminding me of my shopping in the 1st tri, I'd go down and come back with the most random things and then look to see what to make and I couldn't put anything together! I tell you what though I wish I'd get some real strong cravings for 'something' just so that I can satisfy it!!! KWIM But alas... nothing!
I've been pretty healthy I must say :) I made those little bliss ball things but this time put coco in and left out the dried fruit then rolled them in coconut at the end... YUM I've also been making my organic spelt breads and they are just so delicious and feel great eating them. Tonight I'm making a thai red curry and rice which I need to go and stir!
Cherished: I love organic spelt bread, I make it all the time, I also use the dough to make crackers for DS, so he doesn't have to eat stuff full of preservatives :) I hope i will have energy this week to make those yummy balls.

Kirst - had to laugh at your poo vomit story. I don't know how I'd manage with a toddler AND my M/S so I completely sympathise with you.
Cherished - Really must try making some of your bliss balls. They really do sound yummy. I got a craving for my pasta over the weekend and made HEAPS and HEAPS of that and froze it.
Audax - Your apple and pear crumble sounds really yummy! I don't know when I am going to find all the time to try out all the recipes from on here that I want to!
I also read my pasta manaul for the first time ever on the weekend (not entirely sure why, but I did) and it had in there a recipe for pasta and it said you could repace the eggs with soda water :o I just remembered you asked for a pasta recipe without eggs. I'll have to try to remember to post it for you tonight.

HJ - What are you studying at uni?
AFM - Welded some gates with DH on Saturday. Wore a whole heap of protection so I didn't get arc burn, but apparently not enough. My belly must have stretched the two shirts I had on too much and got arc burn all over my belly :o OUCH! It's like a really bad sunburn. Was SO SORE on Sunday but it's starting to get better now. Then on sunday I did some concreting with DH. He's helping me fix up my quail cage a bit better so it's easier to keep clean :dance: Then I just did my usual fish tank cleans, weeding and house cleaning.
lol was laughing at the shopping lists, I had some shops like that too. And I'm still so suggestible, I want chippies now! (mental note to self: must not derail thread).
Kirsten - you poor thing! That was one thing that oddly enough didn't make me feeling like vomiting thank good. Between cat, dog & toddler poo I seem to be surrounded!
AFM well I had an AWESOME week last week - was feeling great, walking every day. My mum is still here helping out and we've been rushing around getting stuff done (she loves gardening OMG what a blessing for me as it was all so overgrown). But today I've come down with a streaming headcold :( bah. So I just feel like comfort food. Was at work yesterday and didn't eat very well either. Plus i'm petrified that DS will get the cold too... at least mum is staying on for a bit (she feels so sorry for me with the cold - which I actually caught from her!).
On the bright side (a bit off track, but oh well), I have my 20wk scan tomorrow and we're finding out the gender (and telling too). I am SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED! :leap::leap::leap: 1 sleep to go!! I really hope bubba cooperates. Oh and my DH felt bubba moving last week (at 18.5 weeks) so that was great fun.

Wow, it’s been VERY quiet in here of late.
I’ve been very off with my morning sickness for the last 3 and a bit days :sick: Not fun at all. Nothing has been staying down so I’ve not been eating much but mashed potatoes and oats. Primarily because I haven’t been to the shops so can’t make banana smoothies (which would be my preferred food option at the moment due to the fact that taste the same way coming out as they did going in), they don’t hurt coming back up and they aren’t acidic and therefore don’t burn my throat :o
I did however manage to go to a hypno-birthing class last night. I didn’t realise that they had anything like that here, so needless to say was pleasantly surprised and VERY happy when my work colleague came in yesterday and said his hypnotherapist asked if he new any pregnant women and when he said yes asked if he’d mind giving them one of her brochures on the new classes she was running :dance: I actually don’t think he was going to give it to me because he was very sheepish and hesitant when he came up to me yesterday (I think he thought I was going to be like….bah, that’s a load of cr@p, instead I got all excited and couldn’t thank him enough :lol: ) She’s running the classes the first Thursday of every month and yesterday was the first. I’m REALLY looking forward to the one in June and I spoke to her about organising a private session as well since I’ll most likely only be able to make two before my EDD. So I’ll be having that early in June after my second group session! :leap:
oh no Dr Tal, that's no good at all! Hope the m/s departs quick smart! The hypno classes sound awesome, that's great.
Well we're an "interesting" household atm. After mum came over to help with my gastro (after DS had it) she then got a cold, which we've all now got (I'm coughing my head off)... and then last night she started vomiting all night... :doh::doh::doh:
So now I just want comfort food! Just after I disinfect everything in sight..... and maybe I'll get back to "healthy" um.. next week?

Dr Tal! AWESOME! I did calmbirth (similar thing to hypnobirth) and it was the most amazing experience, I had a really long labour (21 hours) and I loved it, it was amazing, people don't believe me, but it was pain free and the best thing ever! YAY! I'm very excited for you.
I've been feeling shocking too so haven't really been online much....hope everyone else is well and that your house gets better BELFIE, sounds awful!

Dr Tal - I cant even imagine thinking about a birthing plan yet! I dont know how you even begin to prepare for that. I am thinking I just go in and then I just see how I go?? Eeeep I really better do some research.
Belfie - hope you are feeling better today. I am so happy for you to be having a girl!
As for being healthy - I am taking swimming up again after a couple of months of being lazy. The aim is to go twice a week and to swim 1 km each time. I swear I am going to start tomorrow!!

Fuzzy - I swim, always have. But after I got my BFP, I stopped swimming to the clock so much, well, I stopped counting laps and now I spend 1 hour in the pool doing breaststroke only (to me, freestyle is a racing stroke, and it's just habit to go too fast and wear myself out!) and I LOVE IT! I only go twice a week, maybe three times on a really quiet week.
In unhealthy pregnancy news, we had a party on the weekend. I hid my non-drinking by having Ribena out of a red wine glass and lime juice and soda water in a champagne glass! I also made an enormous pile of cupcakes - we ate 43 out of 48 of them - and there was just mountains of other food. And I stayed up waaaay too late, so didn't feel up for a great deal of exercise or other cooking over the weekend.
I forgot to take my sea bands to work today, and man do I know about it! I didn't thinkt hey were making much difference, but clearly they are!

AMF had the most amazing 4 day weekend and I didn't eat 'that' well either due to having plenty of camping snacks and supplies :shakehead: but I am back into my healthy eating and pilates tomorrow and I might even do a water aerobic class next Friday too. I am STILL not walking regularly :( I really must get my butt into gear this weekend! I'm looking forward to this Friday as I'm having a massage YAY. Cherished: I just roll out the bread dough really thin and cut it with a biscuit cutter, I also roll them into sticks and all sorts of things, this morning I did some little plaits with cheese in them....YUM!!!! and sticks and DS also did some interesting shapes too, they come out crunchy if they are thin enough and better than the nasty processed rot you get in the supermarket, and you also know exactly what is in them :) I am so excited you are doing hypnobirthing too, you won't regret it! A friend of mine who is a midwife says that in her experience people who have done some sort of calmbirth/hypnobirth/active birth courses generally have easier, drug free births, she said it makes sense but she is surprised how time and time again it proves to be the case. She thinks cambirth should be part of the hospital classes you do, then there would be a whole lot less intervention.
Audax: where do you get the seabands from, I've heard a few people talk about them and would have no idea where to get them from, might give them a burl. Wish I was there to help with the cupcake eating frenzy! Good on you for the swimming!!!!
Fuzzy: good on you too for the swimming plans. I might have to investigate that myself, there is a creche at our pool so I really have no excuses :)
Belfie: did you have a feeling you were having a girl? I kind of think I am, only because I am so sick and I wasn't sick like this with DS.......
Kristen I make my spelt bread in our breadmaker, I buy organic spelt flour and yeast and use a few differenet recpies I have. Sooooo pretty please can you share how the recpie for your bread dough to make the little sticks etc? You must make up a bread mix and then just shape it and add cheese etc, that soudns grat for teething rusks etc . Yeah I feel really good about he hypnobirthing, I went to a free workshop and the lady said there was a book you can buy or do her course for $750! My dh can do hypnotherapy and has studies NLP which the hypnobirthing is largely based on so he is my facilitator and 'birthing partner' so we are gogni to really enjoy the experience. He is going to record himself saying a couple fo the guided relaxations etc for me listen to as I go to sleep and he is also great at anchoring etc as we have done heaps fo those kinds of processes in the past so I am looking forward to practicing the breathing etc and sessions with dh starting next week. YAY for a 'healthy mind' too in pregnancy. I got my sea bands from the pharmacy, I thin kmost pharmacys sell them. I used mine once when driving a long distance but I got mini acupuncture needles which you leave in your ear for ms and it worked fantastic!

OK, I am very excited about your hypnobirthing and how exciting that your DH does hypnotherapy and NLP, I know lots of people who have had NLP therapy for all sorts of things and it seems to have done wonders. There is a hypnotherapist I know who does ego state therapy which I am interesting in having a go of too :) I have little silver balls in my ears that my acupuncturist put in there to help with the nausea and it really has helped, but I want more! MORE!
I had a guided meditation cd when I was pg with DS from my calmbirth course, took months for me to ever hear the end of it - kept falling asleep - heh heh. I also had a birth affirmations cd which I used to do in the car on the way to work, I must have looked like an idiot in the car talking to the steering wheel, but it would have been a whole lot funnier if everyone could hear what I was actually saying...."The walls of my birth canal are healthy and pink" "I trust my body and my baby to know what to do" ha.
I make my dough in the thermomix but you could do it in the breadmaker and either set it to "dough" setting or take it out before the cooking starts and shape into whatever you like. I also like to add whatever herbs I have in the garden and some garlic too - yum yum, or olives :) The recipe I use has wheat flour in it as well as spelt, I can share if you like, let me know.

I'm not too keen on adding wheat because I make the spelt bread due to wheat giving me eczema, but I have never checked the bread maker to see if there is a dough setting! Makes sense even if it doesn't I can just take it out.

Thanks for your support in the last few weeks of my pregnancy - it got pretty hard to get the energy to be healthy and having you ladies around helped keep me on the right track. Again, just a quick stop by to say hi ad see how you are all going. Am still feeling pretty icky and very vomity with the whole M/S thing. Had an appointment with my ob yesterday and I'd lost a bit of weight (a couple of kilos) so I have to get some blood tests and whatnot to make sure all my levels are still where they are suppose to be. :wall:
That having been said I've done nothing in the way of exercise and my feeding is still revolving around things that stay down (which is basically nothing) and things that don't taste too horrible or aren't too painful when they come back up :sick: I'm hoping that I get over this bout soon and that my M/S goes back to it's usual vomit between 5 and 7 every night, but mostly fine for the rest of the day routine :crossfingers:
Oh Dr Tal, I cant believe you are so sick. 5 to 7 times per night - that is insane!!! I hope the bloodtests all come back normal and ms subsides for you.

Dr. Tal - you poor thing, m/s is no fun at all! I really hope it gets better for you asap. Sending you big :hug: I can recommend raspberry splits (you know - the fruity outside and icecream or frozen yoghurt inside) I swear that's the nicest thing I've ever eaten "twice" IYKWIM!

Kirsten - I thought I was having a girl cos i'd attempted "sway" and then I was sicker than with DS too. So saying, I got told LOTS of contradictory stories about whether better or worse m/s means girl vs boy. At our 12 week scan they thought it was 70% likely a girl... so everything was pointing the right way. I'm thrilled with my little girl (we're probably gonna call her Annika Fae). I'll send you pink vibes if you'd like :)
Well my mum just left this morning, and I've been eating junk, not walking much - flat chat, still getting over a cold and generally feeling bleh. I'm sure I don't feel great cos I'm not eating great (I won't derail you all by telling you what i'm eating!). Plus I've been madly trying to get stuff sorted out (I have a whole room to empty for my bubba girl), so it's been go go and I've been too stuffed to walk afterwards. I thought I'd be less busy with mum here but it kinda worked the other way. So tomorrow and this weekend... eat better, walk every day and SLOW DOWN!
