HELP Gauze stuck on grazed knee

DD9 fell over at school and grazed her knee, a piece of gauze was put over it and now part of it is stuck in the middle section of her sore. I have put her in the bath, put soap over it and have now been trying some oil with a cotton bud and it just won't come off. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get this gauze off, apart from just ripping it off as the boys keep telling her lol. TIA.

the nurses told me saturate in olive oil and leave for 10 mins but that sounds like what you are trying. As a child I had to sit in the bath for hours with the gauze on my gravel rash (in a purple mixture) and it still put bits off. sorry no real help but water and oil are really the only two I know too

Yep, olive oil or just soaking it is all I would suggest. You can actually get nonstick dressings, or use an antiseptic cream over the graze before you put the dressing on, so it won't stick

She's in the bath again with warmer water this time, the school put the gauze on I'm thinking they didn't have the bigger band aids as it's quite a large graze and was bleeding which is why it is now stuck. Hopefully it will come off.

Wow, it sounds like you've tried just about everything. How warm was the water in the bath. Perhaps you need to try and soak it off at a slightly higher temperature. It might make the wound ooze again.

Use paraffin oil if you have some.

Paraffin oil, more commonly called kerosene....

Good for treating head lice, and as an antiseptic for cuts and scrapes, helps to stop the bleeding too. Came into the public eye a few years ago when a nursing home was 'outed' for giving its residents' kerosene baths... Obviously none of the journos bothered to check what its good for... You might even be able to find it tonight at Coles.

Yeah, paraffin wax is still commonly used in non-adherant dressings such as Jelonet.

Wow, good to know thanks. Well most of it has come off now there is only a tiny bit stuck on that just won't budge. Might drop into the chemist in the morning if I can't get it off.

Really?! The only reason I have it in my cupboard was because a chemist recommended using it to remove a bandage that was stuck on my DD's cut thumb!
