    My ongoing foot drama

Well the anti-inflammatories never worked, so I went back to the doctor on Monday. He said it might be a stress fracture and gave me a referral for xray, which I have had done this morning.

"The joints of the foot are intact and the joint spaces are quite well preserved. There are no signs of a chronic erosive or degenerative arthropathy. There is a subtle localised periosteal reaction over the medical aspect of the next of the 2nd metatarsal which is consistent with a stress fracture and this should be correlated clinically. No similar change in present in other metatarsals. There are no signs of osteonecrosis in the metatarsal heads"

So i think it means... that i have new bone growth, that has happened as a result of an injury (what injury i don't know) which is consistent with a stress fracture. No sure what "correlated clinically" actually means, but I think it means "you put your info with our info and we might have a better idea"?? I also don't have any dead bone.

So back to doctor tomorrow for a "now what"

damn - that's no good Kathryn!

the "clinical correlation" bit would be getting GP to check that where the pin is relates to where the growth is... at least it's a kinda answer...

FWIW - i'm one of those lucky people that grew extra calcified bits and pieces and completely sympathise with you - i have calcified lymph node in my tum, have over growth of cartilage in my wrist - and managed to grow an extra bone in my ankle - all of which have been ouchie so if that is what your problem is, i completely understand your pain hunny! hope they can come up with a simple-ish solution for you soon!

What sort of pain do you get in your foot?

reason for asking is that I have had a terrible pain in my foot for 3-4 months now.. Before Xmas the Dr told me I had some sort of inflammation but due to breastfeeding I couldn't take anything so I just bandaged it at night when it was particularly sore.. I went back this week as it is not getting any better and I have to get an Xray as well.. Dr said possible arthritis but is unsure..

it is localised in one area (just under toe next to big toe). I thought at first it might have been arthritis too as mum has osteo-arthritis in every bone in her body, with her feet being the worse!! All the top of the area of my foot where it hurts is swollen and has been since i first noticed the pain just over 4wks ago.

The pain is pretty constant. sometimes it hurts if my legs are crossed and foot is in mid air (more so at night after a day of being up and around), but definitely hurts if anyone pushes down on the area, or when walking. I have sneakers on currently and if I push down with my toes it hurts and same if i try to pull the toes back. Not a huge pain but definitely noticeable. It hurts less to walk in sneakers than it does barefoot, probably cause there is a bit of support, and to walk in any sort of heel... forget it just can't do it.

Went out to dinner the other night in my flat shoes but they have a slight heel at the back. Ended up walking to the restaurant in bare feet cause I couldn't bare to walk in the shoes.

That sounds quite similar to what I have... Mine hurts across all 3 of the middle toes.. Little toe hurts down the side.. very small amount of pain in the big toe.. Depends on what sort of things I have been doing ect

I rarely wear shoes but my GP told me it is not from that. shoes or no shoes I don't put much pressure on the outter side of my foot.. I tend to walk leaning inwards. Another thing that was sugessted to me was fallen arches but GP says he highly doubts it as the pain is different

Hopefully will get my Xray done next week or week after..

Well a definite stress fracture, so I am now off my foot and on crutches for 2wks. Andrew is taking 2 weeks off work so he can run after the kids for me and wait on me hand and foot
