Hi everyone, we are currently TTC #1 and for the last 3 weeks I have noticed that if any pressure gets put on my right breast, something that looks like milk comes out of the nipple. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I have never ever had anything like this in the past.
Stayci, sometimes women lactate without pregnancy, there are a few reasons why it happens and one of those reasons might impact on your TTC journey (hormonal -too much prolactin in your blood) so best to get this checked.
The other reason why you need to take this seriously is because any discharge from your breast is a breast change, so you need to get it checked to rule out the very slight possibility of breast cancer. Most breast changes are not cancerous, but in the very remote chance that it was, prompt medical attention is the very best advantage you can give yourself.
Can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Discharge when not pregnant can be caused by high levels of prolactin, which interfere with the release of progesterone needed to support early pregnancy. I was leaking too, and got drugs to lower my prolactin back to fertile levels. I have also had breast infections while not lactating. Please get it checked out, I think CD3, 14 and 21 are the benchmarks, in the morning before breakfast, need to avoid sex and nipple stimulation immediately before.
