Reducing the length of a cold

Is it even possible? DS has a cold which I'm now starting to get.

With DD in SCN it makes things difficult Is it there something I can do (besides rest) to shorten the length of a cold?

I don't want to make DD (or the other babies) sick by going in that's for sure. Guess DH will be taking over for the next week

The cold has to run it's natural course, usually 5 to 7 days for your average cold. I find that drinking lot's of fluids and taking vitamin C helps to reduce the severity but not the duration. I hope you are healthy again soon.

Keeping up your fluids, taking echinacea or something like Vicks First Defence (but has to be used the minute you feel the cold coming on) can help shorten it a bit, or at least lessen the severity. Hope it passes quickly so you can visit DD

Zinc + high doses of antioxidants taken at the first sign can reduce the duration of the cold. There's a syrup you can get at the chemist with high levels of berry-based antioxidants that are just the thing. Sorry I can't remember the name of it, it's pretty expensive but with a LO in SCN I would be throwing everything I can at it.

Olive Leaf Extract is supposed to be good for reducing the length of a cold. I know there is a kids one that tastes a lot nice but I am not sure how old you need to be to take it.
