I've always taken DD to OPSM for her glasses but they cost me a small fortune! Last time it was just under $400 for one pair but she does have bi focals (the ones that blend in).
Today DH had an eye test at Specsavers. He got 2 complete pairs of glasses for $299 He doesn't need bifocals though. I almost fell over because they were so cheap! They were quiksilver frames too.
A friend of mine told me NEVER to go there because she has had major problems with them, she's the type of person who has problems with lots of things though
Does anyone have any feedback on Specsavers, good or bad?
I have been there recently and I was quite happy with them. Reasonable frame choices, service was good, not different to OPSM. After claiming on MBF, I think I only paid about $50 to get my 2 pairs.
Not 100% if the frames as as quality as ones you pay $400 for, but at their price it is not a problem to update them every 2 years. A small decorative piece has come off my frames that I use as sunglasses, but they have been dropped a few times.
Dd1 has glasses now, at 3.5 she is forever chewing off the nose piece and spec savers fix them for free and make sure they are adjusted to fit. We have had to go at least once a week!
never had a problem with them. got my last two pairs (after PHI rebate) for $100. DD1 broke one pair 2 days after i got them and i took them back and got a complete exact replacement pair at no cost.
Mum who has bifocals went to spec savers the other week and they were going to charge her over $600 for one pair. she went to Laubum and pank and got them for a bit cheaper. (not sure if they are SA only that company or not) so get the prescription done then shop around.
I have single vision lenses and got 2 pair for $259 from Spec Savers. A lens fell out of my most used pair today, but I managed to pop it back in. Will go there over the weekend just so they can seal it properly.
My sister got 2 pairs for i think she said $299 and hers are pretty nice. I went to OPSM because thats closer to home and spent $380 which is cheaper than my last pair which were $450.
If my glasses werent as sexy as they are i would have gone to specsavers
We use them also. DS has glasses, was told he needed bifocals also. DH wanted a second opinion so I went to Specavers & they agreed with everything except the need for bifocals. Got his glasses $170 for 2. Then he broke a pair from fiddling with them all the time. I tool them in to get a "quote" on fixing them. They took them, had them for about 2 weeks before I got them back but they didn't charge me a cent in repairs. Said it was under warranty. Even though DS broke them from fiddling. DS recently had a check up (8 months later) but with a bahavioural optometrist & he said his current glasses are just fine for what he needs. So Happy that I didn't use teh very first place & pay a heap of money more for frames we really didn't like but was the best they had for bifocuals he didn't need.
My current glasses are from specsavers and I love them! They're funky, hard-wearing and they didn't cost me a bomb. I need my prescription updated as since I got pregnant my eyesight has gotten worse, but I'll be going back to them for the next pair, very happy with them
I get mine at specsavers and havent had an issues, but they arent bifocals.
Mum took her glasses there, and they looked at them and said they couldnt do the same, and recommended her not to buy theirs, becuase the lenses she had were differnt, and a more precise? not that theirs are bad quality, but they told her that becuase her eyse are used to that type of lens, the ones they had wouldnt cut the mustard.
So it will depend onthe lenses that your DD, or rather her eyes, are used to and whether the specsavers pentax lenses stack up against them
They seem OK if you only have single vision issues, but I reckon if you needed more complex lenses then you'd pay loads more. Just out of curiosity I'm going to call them an see what it would cost for me to get mine and DS's glasses from there. At OPSM we get a further 20% discount because they are the preferred supplier of our health fund (GUHealth) and we get 80% from GU anyway. Specsavers doesn't have a 'deal' with our health fund either. So it will be an interesting comparison

I even buy their basic frames, no breaks, seem to be ok quality
