I'm wanting to get some sort of water dispense/filter. I mainly want it so that the kids can get their own drinks (montessori-style). I'm preferably after one of the upright dispensers that have their own little stand, so that I can put it next to the fridge. But other than that I'm a little lost. Oh, I'd also like one that I can fill with tap water, not one where I have to purchase bottles of water.
Has anyone had much experience? Any advice is welcome
We have an Aquaport one.
I think it's excellent but water quality here is revolting and I won't drink the water without it. It's very simple to operate. So much so that ours is currently sitting on a small chest of drawers so that the toddler cannot help herself lol.
Ours can take a bottle or tap water. The filters last 6 months.
We've got a clear plastic water filter unit that we got at Bunnings. It has a tap at the bottom, holds about 6 litres and uses a good quality ceramic/activated charcoal filter (Stefani) in it. You can get similar units in ceramic or terracotta. The terracotta ones are good because they are slightly porous and as the water evaporates (slowly) it helps keep the water cool, but I got the plastic because it was cheaper and I can see when it needs topping up.
We have a stainless steel Berkey water filter. It's amazing and they filter out more than pretty much any other filter does including fluoride. I'm not sure if they come with a stand but you can place it on a small table with the tap bit over the edge. I have ours at the edge of the sink so it's sort of like another tap and I can fill up pots for cooking or whatever with it too. We have step stools in the kitchen for the kids to reach anything but they can both reach the water tap anyway. They're prone to want to start a bunch of water play so it doesn't suit us to have it over the floor.
