I am new to this site and in desperate need of some advice. I was diagnosed with GD at 20 weeks and was told that due to my PCOS it would be a challenge to control. They weren't wrong either! I tried controlling it on my own with no success so they put me on insulin. I have been on the Novo rapid for the last approx month and for a while there it was going good. Then it started elevating and hasn't really stopped since. Also 3 weeks ago they decided to start me on perinatal monitoring 2 times a week as well as an ultrasound once a week to check the amniotic fluid. i thought that all was going good until today. i had my regular weekly visit and was seen by different doctor today. She mentioned again that as my insulin requirements were on the high side they probably won't let me go beyond 38 weeks. (am on just over 100 units insulin per day) i don't see my endo till next weeks so couldn't confirm this with her. Just wondering has anyone else had a similar experience and what insulin requirements are normal? I have been very strict with my diet apart from the odd take out which is usually Chinese And i make my own doongara rice to go with it! BTW am 34 weeks now so not too long to go but still starting to stress a little now..... any help would be greatly appreciated
I was on around 120 units per day by the end of my pregnancy. They did want to induce at 38 weeks, I managed to get a compromise of monitoring every second day and in the end was induced at 39+3.
It is usually standard hospital policy to induce all insulin dependent GD mums at 38 weeks, regardless of whether you are managing it well or not.
Hello, sorry for delay in response has been a hectic week! Endo appt went ok, she said not to stress and that it's better to be on right dose of insulin rather that have poor blood sugar reads. Also had my growth scan and it seems that bubs growth rate has slowed down the OB also said not to stress about it as is only minimal and as i'm getting monitored 2 times a week it was beiing looked after. But they have booked me in to be induced next week! am excited and scared all at the same time!
