Poor Miss E, have a nice relaxing day in the lounge.
Just told the girls to go and play lego while I pack some clothes & stuff to go away, girls want to leave but have to wait for DP to get home after what was probably a huge GF arvo!
I'm going to have to Google the dolphin cruiser now. :-)
I am always on the lookout for sets with regular Lego girl/s in it cos the Friends girls are bigger. So far we have one regular girl from the Safari set. I also want to get the Caravan set which I can only find at a couple of places online because it's an old set.
Zarava - We had so much Lego as a kid with roads & space sets. Really wish we hadn't given it all away. :-(
The guy at the local Lego shop is a massive Lego collector. He HAS to have every mini figure that is released. If that means he opens heaps of the random sets until he gets them, then so be it. All the ones that he opens that he doesn't need he then sells for the same price for people to finish their collections or, for the likes of us, to give kids characters to play with. They are $5 each, so not cheap, but he has a great range. Including girl minifigs! Dd chose Harry potter, a baseballer and a girl on a skateboard when we said she could pick any three - and she is super excited that her Lego girl is going to be in the movie next year! There are some characters from toy story in the mix as well. He just has a table there with minifigs, magnets, seperators etc.
Dd was really unwell today. Even Lego was off the agenda. Mummy/daddy cuddles and DVDs. She managed a few bouts of energy to go outside and supervise but not much. Was asleep within five minutes of going to bed tonight.
Really need to take apart the stuff the kids made the other night. She seems to be stumped on how to take them further. But I really can't be bothered lol

I think with all of us combined we might get to maybe a third of your collection! My dd would be in heaven visiting you Div! Last time I had to keep her away from the older kids in case she ate the Lego. Not so much an issue now lol:

Ok, so we succumbed and bought DS some Lego....while on hols....which we now have to lug back on a train and two buses, along with everything else :redface:
Hadn't read the suggestions on here, but we ended up getting the 600pc red cube, a square mat, a Creator plane, a med Bricks and More set, another small plane kit....oh, and maybe another set or two as well! Myer had 20% off Lego, and a buy one, get 50% off the second deal too, so it cost less than $90 all up ;) DS has the small plane kit, mat and red cube already, but the rest will be for 'later'. Aiming to keep them for Chrissy, but not sure if that's too ambitious, lol! If we hold out til next week I think we'll be doing well....
DH wants the Opera House...I've told him to keep dreaming :)
On a positive note, DS was being a difficult little so and so last night - I told him if he didn't behave I'd take the Lego away til we got home....behaviour fixed immediately ;) I think we've found DS' 'currency'... ;)
I have spent my entire paypal balance (which was from selling kids stuff anyway) and all my monthly spending money that I had left from September. Lucky it's a new month tomorrow! I bought:
2 advent calendars,
a monster truck set,
2 tubs of bricks (one lego, one duplo),
a duplo car set
2 minifigures from ebay for DH's benefit lol
9 minisets - 4 * friends, 3 * harry potter, 2 * batman
a second hand but brand new bulk lot on ebay that included city, friends, ninjago, chima and a heap of sealed random mini figures.
I don't want to know how much it all cost :redface:. Most of it will be christmas/birthday presents. Some will be rewards for good behaviour. I think I will keep a few of the minifigures for DS's birthday. He wants a batman party so I was thinking I could use them in goodie bags rather than buying lollies. They aren't batman figures but I'm sure the kids won't care. I'm keeping my eye open for a good second hand bulk lot too. I already have a small tub of second hand stuff (about 1kg of mixed lego & mega bloks) though so I think that can wait a while for now.
The opera house looks awesome! Bit out of my "willing to pay" limit for lego at the moment (except the toy shop. I'd pay that much for the toy shop lol)
Using minifigs for loot bag gifts is a good idea. We've talked about using the friends mini sets for loot bag alternative next year. Will see how many kinder friends she neeeeeeds to invite lol
Oh good. I'm not the only one who does that then. Lol. I bought DH a minifigure for father's day cos I reckon it looks like him. Lol. Now DD1 calls that minifig 'Dad'. Lol:
My DH has the opera house on his wishlist too. He is a Lego devotee and appears to be passing it on to DD......
I like the idea of the challenge of assembling the opera house. Once. But then of be thinking I've done it. Bored now. Lol
Dd already says some of the Lego is daddy's, and wants to buy Lego for him for Christmas. I just don't think her wish list and my budget match up (apparently daddy needs a Lego train. The Lego train he mentioned isn't one still in stores. So it won't be cheap!). She hasn't mentioned anything for me as far as I know. But there was discussion about the Lego calendar between her and dh the other day. I think its gorgeous, and if I had more faith in my fellow human beings id have it on my desk at work. But I just don't trust people. Had too much go missing (and yeah, Lego is different to stationary, but others have had books and handbags go walk abouts so I'm not gonna risk the Lego lol). If I was allowed to use the study at home of have it there but dd hates me being at the desk for some reason and insists on hassling me til I give up and use the laptop elsewhere.
DS had a lego party this year for his birthday Rowellan and I ordered a heap of minisets from the UK off ebay to use instead of lollies. Here they'd have cost me $12-14 dollars per set but I managed to get a bulk lot at around $4.50 per set.
Kim were they the little animal sets? Have been scoping those sorts if things in eBay :)
No, they are a similar packet though. Mine were from the police range, so little boats and helicopters.

Clearly dds Lego phase had become well known. A friend sent me pics of Lego cupcakes last night, telling me we have to do them for dds birthday! I have to say, "normal" Lego people would be so much easier to put on cup cakes (the little yellow face) as opposed to the friends faces. I'm really hoping she hits it off with some boys at kinder so I can say "we really should have some normal Lego stuff not just friends". Cos, ya know, I'm all about being nice to both genders and making sure it's not all pink/purples (as opposed to being lazy and wanting the easy way out lol)
The girls asked to bring lego away, I said no and we've been in the van due to bad weather, glad we bought a 12v tv and we have lots of craft but I may just make a tub to bring away ;)
Has anyone seen the tubs where the use an old wipes case with the small board cut & glued in the top?
Thinking a plastic container with one glued on the lid would work better as you could take the lid off!
there are fb pages that make soft lego pockets - they put a base plate in it, and a zippered pocket for lego.
I would probably just grab a container and a base plate and not worry about them being stuck on anything. perhaps grab a 5L or 7L snap lock container like we use, and get a base plate to fit in there (the 16*16 base plates should fit in a 2L or 3L container if you want to go smaller). the 7L tub easily fits the 1600 piece set that you can get in kmart.
did you say your SIL or someone was getting the pink and blue tubs for christmas? if they're the same ones i'm thinking of, they have a spot in the top for the small base plate, and might be suitable for you to take with. another option is a beginner set that is available with cars and stuff to build (we got it in big w) that has a base plate on top of it as the lid. it fits easily in the smaller container (i think we have it in a 3L). Check out set 10657. from memory it was about $18 (but i don't know for sure!)
BG - The beginners set with the base plate lid is one we got DS - $19 at Myer, but with their deal we got it much cheaper. Ours has a crane in it. Perfect size to take away ZF. ;)
Yup that's the one! It's compact. Easy to cart around. If probably out some generic Lego in as well. Especially for two kids. I could see them fighting over the limited pieces pretty quickly. If I had two kids to take away if likely but two of those sets so there are two base plates. Then chuck in some generic stuff as well. But I'm notorious for having too much "just in case" and planning on an assumption that kids will always want what the other kid has - too many years with mum doing fdc for me to get myself out of that thought process. Lol.
Doesn't help that my 11yo nephew started having a tanty the other day cos his sister and dd used "his pieces". So I like to plan to avoid that crap! Imau have told him to pull his head out of his bum, get over it and play properly with the girls or I was ringing his grandfather to take him home on the taxi - at his expense (he always brags about how much more money he has in his money box than his sisters - so I figured I'd hit him where it hurt lol). There was well over a thousand Lego pieces in the table. No reason whatsoever for them to be scrapping over pieces!
We had to attend a funeral today and DS was on his absolute best behaviour (his sister not so much :/). As a reward we gave him a lego city mini set. The fire motorbike. He was thrilled.

We had a Lego meltdown yesterday. Asked dd to clean up the mess on the floor. If she didn't I would start pulling her Lego apart. She refused to clean up so I started cleaning up the Lego table. O. M. G! It was bad. Apparently her creations need to stay set up forever...

A tub is a great idea for the van ZF! Might have to organise me one of those too.
I actually don't have much success with tables (but my kids are happy to pull their creations apart over and over). Holly is a climber and lego is slippery and ouchy when you climb on it. When I was a kid mum used to spread out a doona cover and all lego had to stay on there. When we were finished she'd just scoop it all up and pour it back into it's crate. It works here too. Even the baby goes around and scoots the bits back on that have come off lol.
Batman is very exxy
some of the stuff can be rather exxy when you go down the path of character stuff, not necessarily just lego - all across the board. We had a Tinks bday for dd this year - some of the tinks stuff i was looking at was stupidly exxy when compared to non-character stuff

Well done Kim! I so want the dolphin cruiser. I went to Kmart before work but they'd sold out :wall: I was going to go to Big W at lunch time but might try Target instead. It's closer & I have gift vouchers I can use.
I saw in the coles catalogue that they will have some of the friends mini-sets for $5 each from tomorrow.
The cruiser is awesome. The school is pretty good (and more gender neutral). Dd sold some of her clothes to a friend from work so she could go and buy more Lego. I was going to let her get a couple of small things and dave the rest of the money for the cruiser (it wasn't due out for a couple of weeks at the time). Went in to Lego shop and it and the school had arrived that morning!
Contemplating buying her a small set today. She has even awesome taking care of me while I was sick. Will depend on whether she is good when I go to quack this arvo (hate when you know you have a virus and nothing dr can do bit you still have to go for a med cert!)
I found out that DD1 is getting the caravan for her birthday from her nan. I can't wait to make it - I mean for DD to make it. ;-)
Dd was rewarded for being such a good poppet while we've been sick. She was awwwwsome at drs. And there were many people being totally feral that she could have fed off. So we stopped and got Lego on the way home. Roadster creator set. Gave her a budget of no more than $20. She chose the one daddy showed most interest in lol
She wants us to put it together but I feel like death warmed up. DH notice better. So we are laying in top if our bed, sharing a blanket and watching fraggle rock :). Ok i should correct that. Dd is watching fraggle rock. Dh is rubbing his head and trying to doze. And I'm talking Lego with you lot. :) :)

DH came home all excited this arvo - he's bought DS a Friends Bambi miniset from Coles! Haven't given it to DS yet, but DS is either Lego or Bambi obsessed, so he's gonna pee his pants with excitement when he sees it, lol!
So, last night DS refused to carry his books back to the bookshelf or his milk cup to the sink (he does one or the other every night), then refused to move....we ended up saying if he didn't do one or the other that we'd take away a toy he reeeeaaaaalllly liked. 'Lego?' he asks. We nod and he goes into complete meltdown, but still refused to take either the book or the cup. We do our usual, count to three, but still nothing, so DS lost all his Lego for the day. :(
Fast forward to this morning and I had the nicest little boy anyone could imagine. He decided he'd pack up ALL his train set(200pc), by himself ('Will that get me my Lego back?'), helped out with everything I asked and tidied every toy he played with, no problem. I held out til after lunch....you should've seen his grin when he got his Lego back!!
How does everyone store the minisets? Keeping each one separate is a bit much for such small stuff, isn't it?
I have each set in a small container. We buy the bulk packs of those sistema click lock containers and they inevitably come with at least a couple of the 100ml packs - perfect for mini sets! And useless for anything else apart from sprinkles in the pantry lol
We have about a dozen of them on the go. One has brick seperators in it. Each of the friends animal sets is in one. Couple of the little friends sets too. Haven't gone out with the intention of buying that size. They were just part of the packs so we use them :)

Well I did it. I got the dolphin cruiser set. I didn't get it at Target in-store as they had sold out but got it online. Just have to wait for it to arrive & go & collect it. No rush as I think it would be a bit much even for DS yet.
JLeigh - I put DS's mini set in a snap lock bag and put it back in the box. I would imagine that it will eventually work it's way into the bulk lego but for now, while it's new, I'll try & keep it separate. We got an extra 7 pieces in that set. Is that normal?
