Red face Lego / Mega Bloks Lovers

I know I am not the only one out there who enjoys playing lego with their kids (or without them ) so come on ladies & gents ADMIT IT, who else is slightly addicted to Lego?

We've only gotten into lego in the last couple of months, I bought the girls a Box from k-mart and it started from there.

    Currently I think we have:
    1 x Lego Box
1 x Fire Motorbike Mini Set
    1 x Barbie Pet Shop
    1 x Barbie Dress Shop
    1 x Barbie Car set
1 x Barbie Sunbaking Set (my words not theirs)
1 x Barbie Makeup Table set
3 x Lego Friends Mini Animal Sets
1 x Lego Friends Jet Ski

    Coming:
1 x Monster Truck Transporter (going to be from FIL for DD1's 5th Birthday)
    1 x Dirt Bike Transporter
1 x Emergency Vehicle Starter Pack

I am also letting DD2 pick a set for DD1's birthday from her - have told her she can spend $30

My mum is getting The Barbie Mansion, a friend is getting her the barbie beach house, SIL is getting a pink & blue tub, mum is buying them a lego table for x-mas and random lego / mega bloks sets.

I am looking at the Lego Friends Dolphon Cruiser as possibly a x-mas present aswell as soooo many other possibilities, the girls make things with me, play with them for a while then rip them apart (tearing my heart in two) then play for hours building their own things.

I think we've started ok considering we only really bought lego about 2 months ago, I could buy it every day
Don't think DP will agree so much though!

    So come on.. ADMIT IT!

I think lego is awesome. But I'm too scared to let DS play with it because there are far too many little tiny pieces. We have got him some for Christmas/5th birthday coming up and so has my mum. I also got a box of second hand bits & pieces that I've put up for him. I'm a bit concerned about DD being around when he plays with it too as I can just imagine her wanting to eat it lol. I love the Lego friends sets they look so cool. I wish we had them when I was little. I loved playing with my brother's lego. It was the one thing we actually played together with as he was 6 years older than me and not interested in baby girls toys (can't imagine why lol). I've got DS a super heroes set. Mum got him a lego city helicopter & boat set. ETA: at the prep orientation DS found a box of lego in a classroom and played happily for ages with two other boys.

The girls love playing together & so far haven't been too bad with the small pieces

I love the things they create (such imaginations)

So I should give it a go then I wonder if I could use it as bribery to get DS to clean up the loungeroom. I remember my brother & I would play for hours building a lego city with buildings and cars. He had heaps including a castle with a drawbridge!

I can't see the harm, DD2 (3) loves it, they make a mess but we have the small stuff sorted in and old tool box so she uses big stuff then adds little details

Ok so I am a duplo addict!!!! It's Lego brand but bigger. I struggle with the teeny tiny Lego.

We have the zoo set, princess Ariel, car wash, disney planes, market stall set, alphabet set etc etc. we have family block sessions regularly. We all love it!

Another huge lego loving household here, we bought DS1 his first box of lego when he turned 3 and he is completely obsessed with it! He would now have around
$3k (maybe more?) worth of lego I reckon, mostly lego city and creator stuff. He has a poppy who spoils him rotten and loves to go on ebay and see what bargains he can get lego wise, DS1 would probably get a new lego set every fortnight, as I said extremely spoilt!

From the age of 3.5 DS1 could sit down with a quite complex plan and build the set with no help whatsoever, it was quite impressive to watch!

DS2 loves lego too, unfortunately he loves to pull apart his big brother's creations which results in a few fights in the household, hopefully it won't be much longer until he appreciates lego and actually starts to want to build rather than destruct!

We have the duplo here which ds1 loves. It's bigger pieces, considering he's only 2. But he too loves creating things. We can make the objects or just make towers to knock over. We have heaps in the cupboard ready for Christmas, after target had their big toy sale. He will end up getting dh childhood Lego when he's a bit older, and doesn't put everything in his mouth.

I know Div will be in here too, but I will admit to lego in just about all rooms of my house.....

I have an entire coffee table drawer chockas with Duplo in the family room
A very large lego table in the study with all my old lego from childhood (kilos of the stuff)
DS has all his (numerous) new sets in his room in a large storage crate
and DD1 has all her lego friends (all the current sets) in her room.

It's the one toy that gets played with and played with.

DD2 is even excellent with it at 19 months old. It teaches superb fine motor skills.

Even though my kids love the new sets, they actually play more with the old lego as its just in a big rolling drawer. Their imagination is able to be free.

I have a GF whose son loves lego but he and she insist that they be stored and kept in their correct sets and then only played with as the intended creation. That kind of defeats the purpose of lego as a creative medium IMO.

We hate Lego here. Totally detest it. Would never ever try and encourage anyone else to buy it for their kids....

    Yeah right!!

DD discovered Lego when the June/July got sale catalogues came out. She scoped out everything and te thing she kept coming back to was the Lego friends stuff. So we thought we'd layby a few sets for Christmas. Mum went on at midnight and layby'd every Lego friends pack they had. As well as the couple of creator houses we wanted. Awesome. Except there ended up being 18 sets it something! Figured seeing a she was getting some for Christmas we may as well drag out her daddy's big set (1600 piece set from a free Christmases ago) and grab a cheap friends set and see how she went. (Un)Fortunately while we were looking for friends sets I may have found some that I wanted for me. And it may have gone from a couple of cheap sets to a lot of sets. For all of us! Over 50 sets since the toy sales started! Gulp!

I will say, dd has bought some of these herself. They are sets she really wanted so sold her "baby blocks" (bigger mega blocks) and bought them herself. I'll be heading in to the local Lego shop on thurs to layby this years friends advent calendar. And the owner of the shop is already going to hold the latest Christmas village set for me when it comes in...

Dh sold off a large part of his Pixar cars collection to re invest the moolah in Lego too. Which was kinda awesome of him!

    Ok so we have
City stuff - garbage truck, couple of emergency bikes, truck and trailer with a digger thing for mining. Couple of police sets. Dd is dying to get the big police station. I told her to sweet talk her uncle lol
Easy build sets - cars, safari animals, princess and I think there is another couple too
Creator houses - three houses, a beach cottage, a lighthouse (ok, the last two were for me). Love that these have three builds ranging from easy to hard.
Winter village (aka Christmas village). Have three of the four sets released so far. Another comes out in the next six weeks. Have to save up to get the toy shop. Rate and exxy. But gorgeous! Lego man is trying hard to get it in for me at a reasonable price. Lol
Friends - lots of sets. Lots and lots of sets! The school, the big boat, horse trailer, plane, dog show... All the little $5 animal sets...

Between now and Christmas we will have all of last year and this years released Friends stuff. Took some hunting but we found it! Local shop has been awesome (the guy is a huge Lego geek but really helpful - and I like supporting local peeps) and I found an online shop (that also happens to be very local) who sells a lot of stuff. Including older sets. Most of the older ones were cheaper than eBay - and flat $5 delivery.

So ummm yeah, we hate Lego in our house...

Love it here too. Although DD1 seems to have moved on from creating things at the moment and is more interested in swapping heads of Lego friends or leaving them headless lol.

We have the Lego friends summer pony camp hidden away for Christmas. It's seriously killing me to not get it out.

From an adult perspective, it's a cool stress relief. A few weeks ago I was waiting on news of someone in hospital and was waiting until after 2am. Pulled out the Legos and made houses, cars.... Was a great distraction and time filler!

    :

Yeah definitely awesome stress relief for adults!

And FANTASTIC quiet play stuff. The problem with my ears means I can't spend time outside with dd while she is happily making lots of noise. I can't be right there up close. But lego we can do. Her imagination as she builds things or the running commentary while I'm building thins for her is at a noise level I can deal with more easily. She still gets excited and stuff, but at an "inside voice" level

I love building complex things. Find it very relaxing

There are lots of building instructions on the official lego site. E loves the more simple designs.

I forgot we also have 2x smurf mega blok sets

Playing lego as I type... DD2 has built her own park. (Can't put pics through tapatalk anymore can we?)

    :

Dd1 got the barbie mansion or something like that for her bday. Initially i was so excited for her but she cant take it out until dd2 is older now.

Dd2 puts everything in her mouth!!!

Dd has recently stolen one of our coffee tables and made it her Lego table. Apparently sitting on the floor isn't as good for her as a table. Definitely need a designated Lego table. Not sure I want an actual Lego branded one though. I want one that I higher and can be used for other stuff too lol
  16. Lego / Mega Bloks Lovers

    :

We use my mum's billiard table. DD1 can sit at it with a stool or stand and reach easily and DD2 has no way to get the pieces.
  17. Lego / Mega Bloks Lovers

    :

We use the coffee table but they are getting a lego (not the actual brand though) table from mum for x-mas, we sit on the floor and do them anyway

    :

For duplo we use a coffee table that has a large drawer. I did initially plan to laminate the top of it with duplo mats, but I never did and they prefer it that way.

For out little lego we have a craft table from Hip Kids - awesome.
