Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Your dp clearly wasn't a Lego kid growing up!
It's a learning thing as well as fun designs to play with. I am amazed daily at how well dds fine motor skills are improving. A few months ago she wouldn't attempt much with the smaller blocks. I watched her yesterday and she was putting together the flat 1x1 pieces. They are so tiny. And she was putting them together perfectly. She is looking at the pics on the advent calendar and mostly putting the items together by herself. Just asking if she has the bits in the right order.
I have spent a fair bit of time looking at non Lego options when asked about Christmas stuff, but there really isn't much that dd enjoys that is age appropriate and not tacky plastic crap. I look at stuff aimed at 5-7 year olds and there isn't much there that is appropriate. I do tend to prefer educational or active/outdoor toys so I may be biased (she doesn't need a new bike this year) - but I honestly can't see much out there that I deem suitable for her.
And really, if she loves something that is teaching her, I'm all for it! The fact I happen to like Lego too is a major bonus!
ZF. Ill wrap the thing from us for dd2s bday and put it in bag with calendar and put it in my wardrobe. Remind me when you visit! Those heavy black bags rick uses at the Lego shop are awesome for hiding stuff!
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
BG - I agree about the Lego being a great option - so much better than all the 'plastic fantastic' stuff out there. DS' non Lego Xmas presents are a scooter, basketball hoop and puzzles. We've also got some crafty stuff, a building set with screws/nails and a globe. So yeah, it's usually educational, outdoor stuff or...Lego! :)
DS and DH were adding some things to his calendar yesterday...Christmas activities in the City and a few outings we have planned...DS asked if we could put 'Lego shopping' on the calendar! :)

DS asked if we could put 'Lego shopping' on the calendar! :)
Sounds perfect!
DD has a calendar with what's happening each day. She has "S" marked on Thursdays cos she goes shopping with my mum. She said to me this week the S means she goes to the Lego shop cos granma too sick to go shopping. She's not wrong. We go there each week to pay laybys and things lol
Current laybys are limited. The big mine for dh. Cos it was the last in store and he said it's being discontinued - but we can layby for as long as necessary. And the Lego friends pencil holders for my nieces for Christmas. And for dd to give me apparently. It matches the calendar so she said its perfect. But I'm not supposed to know about it :)
Had to laugh at dds little friend last night. He doesn't have much Lego and was interested in watching me out together the calendar. He was watching me and watching the instructions and couldn't keep up. Poor dd thought i was making mistakes cos I was putting together the December calendar instead of just putting the numbers in the way they were in the pic :)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I've been looking at the calendar & pencil holder. They would look great on my desk at work lol. They would match Olivia's desk ;) Maybe I should put that on my list for DH.

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I have been reading along with this thread and decided to get DH the mine for xmas, but when I went into Myer I saw the Sopwith Camel plane. He loves planes and knows a lot about them so thought he will appreciate it. Now I hear the mine is being discontinued, is that right BG? Might have to grab one for his birthday!
Moo is getting his first ever lego for xmas. Just one of those tubs to start off with. Can't wait until he really gets into it! Buster is getting the duplo train set :)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
From what I can gather the mine is being discontinued as a new range of mine related stuff will be coming out next year. Lego man said they are getting harder to her and he has basically been told he won't be getting any more in after this last batch sold (which is why he put it on layby for us).
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Thanks for that BG, I'll hunt one down now just in case! I asked for lego for xmas  hoping for the big bridge one or the opera house!
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Did someone post something about sets coming out next year or did I imagine it?
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I would love something more technically challenging, but given mum put our friends layby on for us at big w, and put EVERYTHING on layby instead of just the stuff i asked her to grab, we've got so much friends (and a couple of creator things) that i just need to spread that out amongst us and forget getting anything for me. but that's cool - DH has the mine on layby, and lego man is talking to lego corporate in the new year to try and get us the winter village market and toy shop (from way back) so i really shouldn't whinge too much. the fact i've already added three of the winter village items to the christmas collection is probably a sign i have enough "grown up" lego for one year, and having santa bring DH and I a few things meant for DD (which really means it's for all of us anyway) is a fairer thing

MD, i didn't see your post! There are many many MANY sets coming out next year....
if you're on fb, check out "i'm rick james bricks" - he posts pics of all the coming soon stuff
Friends, City, Lego Movie sets, Disney Princess sets, super hero stuff - he has posted pics of a lot of it
i'm sure there is an official lego fb you can check it out on, but i tend to go to Ricks page cos he's local - and i have ZF just as hooked lol. he creates albums so it's easy to look at what's coming, what's in stock etc
if you don't have fb, you could google something like lego sets 2014 (lego friends 2014, lego city 2014) and wade through everything that comes up there that way - it might take a bit more time that way though. i'm pretty sure brickset has the 2014 official pics up now (that's the site i use to keep track of the sets we have) so you could check there - again, it might take a while...
some of it could be available as early as the first week of Jan
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Mind. BLOWN.
Man I can not wait until 2014. That lego movie stuff is INSANE. OMG at the cloud cuckoo thing and the icecream truck. There's even a demented rainbow unicorn thing! WTF I MUST HAVE THAT!!!
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
And those minifigs just get better & better!!
Dying here (*envy meltdown*)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Demented rainbow unicorn thing?! Sounds awesome! ;)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Got the scholastics lego stuff yesterday!
Hurry the hell up x-mas day ;)
Friends keep tagging me on lego stuff, think I'm making a name for myself :p
DP has no idea on the whole lego thing, going to print out some counting activity sheets & things for the girls :p
One of their teachers is babysitting tonight and she WILL at lego with them so going to set up the toy room amongst other cleaning today so they can have some fun!
ETA: got an email - 20% off full prices lego at toys r us ;)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Ha ha I was just coming in to say the same thing ZF!
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Be wary of toysrus pricing! Lego man sells pretty much everything at rrp. The mine, with 20% discount, is $112.99. Full price with rick is $115. If you know the prices of things and they work out cheaper, go for it - bug make sure you know your prices first and don't just assume its cheap cos it's 20% off. I was quite disappointed in some of their pricing to be honest. It wouldn't be worth it for us to get anything in their sale, once we factor in (rather exxy) postage. Maybe if you have a local store it might be worth it. Just be really conscious of their pricing.
MD. I agree with the movie pieces. I can see us ending up with all of them eventually... They are so not "normal" they'll be worth having lol They look so crazy!
We will be seeing the movie at the cinemas with Lego shop man apparently (we were invited to a viewing the other day when it premieres locally). Wish it was going to be released on DVD before dds birthday - would be awesome to have it as backup if weather is cruddy. We have the friends DVDs but the movie would be cook to have. Chances are some peeps will stay later than the "official" party (ZF!) that it would be good to have something to entertain kidlets! Have to decide whether to stick to just a Lego friends party or whether to go with more a Lego movie sorta thing. Guess it will depend on dd and how much more she gets into the movie. It's more gender neutral I guess. Though I like the fact we can get little sets from the friends animal stuff for loot bags :)
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
DS just asked santa for lego for xmas. I think Santa might just hear that request ;)
I agree, the lego movie sets look so cool. I'll be taking DS to see that movie when it comes out. It's not long after his birthday so I might buy him a voucher and use it as a lesson in delayed gratification. It's a lesson for me lol!
