Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I think it's great that they have so many different themes to choose from so it appeals to a wider range that way MD. I really like the city stuff and DS loves it. I prefer it to chima or star wars because of the violence aspect.
DS is getting the emergency starter set for xmas. Along with about 8 other sets  Not counting the 6 or 7 sets his grandma's got him. We'll be all lego'd out by boxing day.

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
That's an interesting comment, I hadn't really considered the violence aspect. My DDs have a weird mashup of mostly smaller sets that include things like Vikings, pirates, dragons, adventurers in safari suits, monsters, etc, but they tend to play with them in non-violent ways. Like the pirates all go on a treasure hunt, or the Vikings take turns riding the sea monster. LOL. I kid you not. I have girl children, I don't know if that makes a difference?
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
DD1 wants ninjago which doesn't worry me, I don't mind play fighting but that's just me... I think it's healthy for both boys & girls to have access to different sets and ideas on what to do with them.
DD2 used a horse to trample a robber in lego the other day, while I don't encourage violence it's a good talking point on what's right & wrong.

Maybe. My two seem to gravitate towards the gender stereotyped toys without any particular encouragement from us. DD loves her dolls and plays mum to them, she loves the animals. She tends to play make believe games that are more gentle. DS will turn his toast into a gun so I try to avoid toy weapons. I'm not against them, I just don't encourage them. She's fussy with her clothes & likes to play with my hair. He couldn't care less about his clothes and doesn't play with hair. DD will play with cars as transport. DS will make them crash. It seems a bit contradictory I know but I'm getting him some super hero sets for his birthday. I think the difference is that the super heroes are using super powers to catch the bad guys rather than fighting them with weapons. If he ever asks for the other sets, I would probably get him some, but while I have control, I will choose other things. I'm hoping they will eventually play nicely together with all the sets. They are both a bit too possessive ATM.
I like how the friends sets have the girls being active. Playing soccer, karate etc. They aren't just sunbaking on a beach.

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
My girls are little tomboys so while they love the girl clothes and colors of the friends sets they also love the action and ideas that go along with the lego city sets.
They were most excited about the moto-x sets and the dolphin cruiser so I am quite pleased that I have such a wide variety to choose from and I know they will love it all.
I am REALLY happy I decided to tack on the family house (with working light) to the list as it has now apparently become the front runner as a present they want, so Santa will most likely be very much loved this year.
I think the holidays are going to be filled with lego building and play, as well as possibly sorting through our storage ideas & toy room.
DD2 has requested a lego head cake for her birthday so that could be rather interesting.... will have to work on that!

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
We're very conscious of the violence aspect here, so have avoided anything even remotely connected at the moment. DS hasn't shown any interest in weapons yet either, and can get worried/anxious/scared about stuff, so it's easier all round if we avoid it.
We like the creator and 3 in 1 stuff as DS loves that you can make multiple things out of the same set. The city stuff is good too. We looked at some of the Friends stuff, but DH hated the girls (said they looked too 'grown up' and didn't like that they were larger than normal figs) so we only got the little Friends animal sets (fawn, puppy and bird). DS isn't that interested though. He likes any kind of transport Lego, and uses the big box sets to make animals, houses, people, circus stuff etc He says he wants the Haunted house, but also looks scared of it too, lol!
ZF - A Lego head cake is a great idea...I'm already gathering ideas for the Lego party DS will no doubt want but was only thinking a rectangle cake with mini cupcakes to look like a Lego block.

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Dd has looked at the ninjago sets and china sets and isn't taken by them at all. She is hooked on friends and city - she's a practical kid "if you're gonna have house you gotta have rubbish bins - and garbage truck!" "If you're gonna have trucks and cars they need petrol!" Can't fault her logic!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
DP says no more lego (was going to get some from FIL for x-mas) :(
Guess I need to get other people to get z some for her birthday ;)
So excited to see their faces on x-mas day :)

Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
What a party pooper your DH is :shakehead: ruining the girls' fun. Shame shame shame.

Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Sneaking in!
I see this thread pop up all the time, and thought of you girls when out shopping today and saw these!
Hoping I can join in here when DS is a little older and finished with duplo!
(deleted the pic, been advised it might get me in trouble- eeek!)
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Hey guys I've started a little group on FB (it's locked) for my lego loving friends to share some pics etc.... If anyone wants to join PM BG or myself ;)
I'm hopeless at remembering who is who so just let us know!
Just easier for me to share pics straight from my phone ;)
Will still keep chatter on this thread though for all the lego lovers!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Sahbear - that looks cool! You can join in with Duplo chatter - anyone slightly obsessed is welcome. ;)
Well, this is a first here....we're up to afternoon tea time and DS hasn't touched his Lego at all today! This would have to be the first time in three months!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Dd has had a mostly Lego-less day today too. She pushed mummy too far when mummy was very ill last night so mummy out all but the advent calendars away. Probably a bit of overkill but it was a case of putting the Lego away with studied calmness or losing my **** with dd. Tonight we've had whinging and sooking and tantrums over the fact mummy is still sick and dates to have expectations of general cleanliness before we do the advent calendars! How terrible of me...
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Girls are currently playing lego before bed ;)
A friend showed me a phone case with a flat lego board built in.... I WANT IT!
Imagine having that as a portable lego to take away for the kids ;)
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I want it too! For me though! Lol
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Hehe me too... Gotta use the girls as a cover ;)
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Nah not in our house. We all openly admit to a love of lego lol
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the friends advent calendar. The last 5 or 6 days have been pretty crap IMO. DD doesn't seem to mind as she is just happy to have her own "lego's". But I think if she was a bit older, she would be disappointed with hers compared to DS's city one.
Myer still hasn't responded to my complaint. Definitely never ever shopping at myer again. Unfortunately people seem to think it's a good idea to give me myer gift cards :wall:. Oh well I will only shop there to spend gift cards and no other reason.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
yeah i was thinking the friends one has been pretty tame compared to the city one - so far there has been four mini figs in the city one (i think - can't see properly from here!) - fire place, table and chair, bbq... compared to a day with nothing but bows/hair accessories for the friends one, perfumes etc.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
It would be nice if there were a couple extra mini-dolls.
I might have bought the Friends dolphin cruiser DVD today. And a chima one. I will have to review that one first though.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
i was actually disappointed in the dolphin cruiser dvd. don't know why - it just seemed to drag and be somewhat pointless. i know that other two weren't that great but at least the story didn't drag kwim?
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I didn't mind it. I've watched it on youtube. DD loved it. I've only sat & watched all the way through once though. The girls are a bit ditzy. "ooh we have to get changed, can't go on a boat looking like this." Great role models there lol. Oh well. It's a good opportunity to teach DD not be behave like a barbie doll.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
yeah, we had a talk about "silly vain girls" when we were watching it - how you dress isn't everything...
they've definitely made them a bit bimbo-ish, which is quite sad really! they could use the opportunity to build on the strong characters they seemed to be building in the first installment but instead they've made them ditzy. :(
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
It is a shame. They did quite a few sets with the girls playing sports, being active and outside, they had a great opportunity to break away from the stereotypical girly thing without any detrimental effect to the brand IMO. I still like them though lol. The memories it brings just because it reminds me of the books and shows that I really liked growing up. Maybe we should all email lego about it.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
OK I did it. I sent Lego an email suggesting improvements for the Friends DVDs. I doubt it will make a difference but you never know. If enough people suggest change, we might see a positive result.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
i will see what i can come up with and email them too
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Will be getting dolphin cruiser DVD for stockings when the girls aren't around.
The girls like the ninjago dvd's and we bought the chima ones for my nephew!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I got two shopping bags full of FREE Lego!! :D So excited!! I've been going through the bags before I give it to DD & there's so much great stuff in there including a brand new boxed Lego Friends Jet Ski!
Not sure if DD will get any Lego for Christmas now though cos DH told his family that she has enough. :(. Nooo you can't have too much Lego!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
FREEEEEEE OMG REALLY! HOW?????????????????
Sorry my mind just ticked over a little......
Yep DP says too much too but as long as they love it & keep asking I will buy it (just not as bulk as we have been) & I'm sure he will give in to his girls!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Moi - yay for free Lego! How?!?!
DS is making up for the Lego- free day today...we're leaving in 5 mins and he's madly trying to finish a Creator boat, lol!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Recommendations for a small lego stationary set for 6 and 4 yo?
I don't want to spend more than $10 each. Online or store purchase?
They're both boys. One loves lego Star Wars.
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Check big w. Not sure they have sets but you can make your own mix to fit your budget
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Perfect! Thanks for the speedy response.
Has anyone seen the Lego range by Moleskin notebooks? Maybe a good gift for the adult lego addict?
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
i'd seen them - and deliberately walked away so i wasn't tempted to buy lol
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
:
FREEEEEEE OMG REALLY! HOW?????????????????
I'm on a local FB group where people can give stuff away for free. Mostly it's old stuff but this woman was giving away all her Lego! I actually only got some of it cos she gave away Lego to lots of different people. She must have had TONS of it!! I can't believe she didn't sell it. She could have made lots of money!! I guess this way she made lots of people happy. :D
My DH told his mum not to give DD the Lego she bought her for Xmas. :(. She had the pink Lego box to give her. So now she's getting DD something else. Well I'll still buy some items now and then but will avoid buying any bulk items. I'm sure DH won't mind when he sees how much I love it - I mean how much DD loves it. ;)
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I don't get why people say no more to something kids are clearly enjoying when it's educational as well. Fair enough for some things because there are limits to how they can be used (Barbie. Dora dolls, soft toys). Lego grows with them. And it's exxy, so if someone else is buying, even better!
I'm the same with books. The only reason I say to people not to rush out and buy books is because we have lots of them. If they ask if she has certain types and she doesn't, go for it!
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Because they are not lego enthusiasts ;)
The girls are getting an animals set off DD1's teacher, they already have it but I will print the alternate build & they can have 1 each :p
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Did our first alternate builds yesterday with the animals sets.
Did the rabbit alternate on its own then the turtle, cat & squirrel one together :)
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
I think if I sort out storing our Lego that might help DH too. I'm just finding it hard to get out and look at storage options when DD2 is still only 3 months and I've had heaps of bdays and Xmas to shop for. Hopefully in the New Year I can finally sort out storage and then he might not mind so much that we have lots and I want more - I mean DD1 wants more. ;)
I wrapped some Xmas presents today for the girls and I'd forgotten that I'd bought DD1 a Lego game! That was an exciting find. Lol
Zarava - What's alternate builds? Do you mean that the girls take turns adding pieces?
-
Re: Lego/Mega Bloks Lovers #2...
Moi - on the lego friends website they have instructions you can print for an alternate build for the animals sets.
It also has instructions for a build that uses all 3 animals in each series into one build (hope that makes sense).
BG is there one that combines all 3 series into 1 set???
