Zander's godmother is pregnant with her first (due March) and while I realise I have lots of time up my sleeve, I'd like to get some idea of some things to make her for bubby. It gives me heaps of time to make practice versions so she can have the perfect one I just want to give her some things that are totally unique to her & her baby....
So far I'm going to be making her a nappy wallet, photos of my first dodgy one here. I've had to resize the pattern & fiddle with it a bit, but it will eventually be right.
The next thing I'm thinking of is a sling, she has already told me she'd like to buy one & I told her I'd buy it for her. Instead I'd like to make one to suit her perfectly. Bec (Hoobley) has given me some great patterns for this - thanks again Bec.
The other thing so far is a "boutique wipes case" which is basically a normal Huggies hard travel wipes case that has been padded & covered with fabric. I got the pattern & all the bits & pieces today so am planning on doing one this afternoon as a practice. Luckily we have about 6 travel wipes cases here so I can get lots of practice in Photos here and here.
I'm thinking of co-ordinating all of them, so having the same fabrics, or if not the same maybe just ones that look great together.
So does anyone have ideas on what else I can try to make as well? I have a sewing machine & am pretty good on it. I can't knit or do cross stitch, but am great on long stitch! Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

How about a material/cloth Shoulder bag that can be used as a nappy bag too? Like a sack/satchel one that crosses over your shoulder IYKWIM?? Love the pics BTW - they look great!
Sarah, one of the things I love are my burping cloths, they are just a terry flat nappy and across one end there is a strip of fabric about 3inches wide sewn along the width of the nappy. They look so much better than just a plain nappy and you could also co-ordinate it with the fabric you use for the nappy pouch etc. I will take a pic later and post it for you Sarah if you like.
what about nappy covers !! or a cute summer out fit ..
the patterns are easy to follow .. and spotlight has them for half price !! what about a muslin wrap ... its plain butmake bigger than all the store bought ones and will last ages if she wants to wrap the baby beyond the first months ...
i made a supasized of for nix the other day ! i still wrap him it helps with his separation anxiety !! its chaep and u can mix an match !!
She is considering cloth nappies, so I might even be able to make her some nappies but at this stage she's undecided. I might look at trying a unisex outfit as well.
At my baby shower I got some really nice homeade gifts. One friend made me a breastfeeding pillow (so much nicer than the storebought ones) and one of those sleeping bag suits. Another friend knitted me a short blanket perfect for using in stroller or car seat and some baby booties. My friend made her baby the cutest baby quilt. And I made a friend a baby scrapbook. I decorated all the pages with all the "firsts" I could think of as well as pregnancy pages, shower pages etc. it was all set up so all she had to do was plop in her favouirte pictures. She LOVED it.
Sarah, that looks great. Have you thought about finding some really funky fabric that would match with your Here come's trouble lines? You could sell them as accessories?
I think that Sherie is a marketing manager in hiding!!!
I love the burp nappy - fantastic idea - I will have to steal it from you and make some for my SiL (and maybe some for me as well)
Also, the wipes case looks fantastic - I'm with Christine - are you willing to share - I am perfectly willing to barter but aside from knitting and cross-stitch I have very few practical skills (as everyone who sees my new curtains will attest to )
