Having 4 kid's mean lots of us time....meaning games, activities together.
This how ever doesnt mean that for brithday's and christmas that we need board games.
Yep....we have 20..yes 20 board games. The last one was given to N for his birthday from a family member that was way to 'adult' themed for my liking. SIL was here on the weekend adn informed me that 2 IL family member's have bought...yes you guessed it...more board games.
I dont have the heart to say no we have enough please no more because I consider it gorgeous that they thought of us as a family unit IFYKWIM...but OMG what am I going to do!!!!!
Im going to go through the ones we have here already later today and donate some of them to the school toy drive for the underpriviledged but I am just over recieving them...
What do others do with unwanted gifts they recieve at Christmas? I really dont want to hurt anyone's feeling's but it is getting beyond a joke.
I love board games Maz! Can never have too many. Do you have hungry hungry hippo? That was my fave. Closely followed by guess who. Is that classed as a board game? hmm maybe i'll get Lu a board game for chrissy. Good idea Maz~ Thanks.
Anyway....... back to the point.
Absolutely 100 % ok to donate unwanted gifts to charity, or pass on to someone you know who would need or use them. Or if possible, i'd exchange it for something the kids did need. Maybe when it's coming up to a birthday you could mention that the kids need new books, crayons, or you could tell your MIL and she could let the family know.
I would rather someone told me they didn't need something. I wouldn't be at all offended, especially if they are family. I also would not mind if someone passed on a gift they couldn't use.
have hungry hippo, and another game that is simular with frogs, guess who junior and senior.
IF they asked me what kind of board game then I could say..hey what about battle ship's or the game of life....but apartently one is already one we have :rolleye:
Ange.....might have to give you the hungry hippo we have here we're over it
i'm another that loves board games, so i might not be much help here! we have ummmm a lot more than 20 hehehe. now that DH is back home permanently we're even talking to bro and SIL about dinner and games night starting up once a week again
anyhoot - back to your issue - maybe you need to let a central person know that you guys don't really need board games - that you'd prefer other family gifts (if that's what they want to give) - things like totem tennis come to mind... i guess when people know a family spend a lot of time together, they look at activities for all of them (and i know that i do my best to avoid electronic games when buying gifts!) - it's hard to know what sort of thing people will use
as to culling your "collection" - maybe make an effort to play them all again, see which ones the kids are too old for or find boring, and hand them on. the ones they like, play with now - and the ones that are a bit advanced, keep dragging out.
i know when we were younger, we used to drag a game out every now and again until we actually understood it - then we'd play it to death - and now we drag them out for nostalgic reasons.
hmm, if E goes to bed nicely tonight, might have to drag a game out to play...
oooh I love my board games. They are piled in a corner. I should really let the kids play with them one day LOL.
I have 2 or three versions of Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit, then other stuff like Boggle, Yahtzee, Panic, Cluedo, Pictionary, Celebrity Head, Rebus, Wheel of Fortune, Battle of the sexes, Who wants to be a millionaire, Game of life, and plenty more I can't see cause they are at the back LOL
Please dont get me wrong....we love them to...but we tend to spend alot of time outside when the weather is good so outside stuff would have been so much better. I had asked J to ring his mum and ask her if she could get helmet's for the kids because santa is bringing bikes for 3 of them and a skate board for the other...but no he forgot. I also find that the board games are either to babyish or to adult themed.
The other problem we have is that we dont have alot of room inside having such a small house with all us living in it and the games are in the boys room, taking up alot of space in their wardrobe.
You know what would have been a great family pressy.....a summer family pass to the local pool for us because its just not something that we budget for and the kids would have loved it. A family pass to the Melbourne zoo, or one for the steam boats up in Echuca.
Doesnt matter....will smile and graciously except them
