Craft Ideas for Playgroup for Halloween

Okay. For some reason, I volunteered to organise the craft activity for bug's playgroup on Halloween.

I have come up with two crafts possibly. The first, are spiders made from tracing around the child's hands on paper, cutting around the outline and gluing the two handprints together on the palms to make spiders. The palms make up the body, and the fingers are the legs, iykwim. Then threading a piece of wool through a little hole in the centre of the body, decorate it, and hang it up.

The other one, is bats made from egg cartons. Cut the base of an egg carton in half cross wise, then again. Paint black (I was going to paint them before the day), turn the 'cups' upside down to look like a flying bat, thread a piece of wool or elastic through the middle of the middle 'cup'. Decorate and hang up.

I was also thinking of making a couple of things for our morning tea, spider web iced biscuits for the Mums, and pond sludge with worms for the children.

Ideas? Thoughts? All much appreciated. I know we don't really 'celebrate' Halloween in Australia, its not really our 'thing', but its a novelty kiddie thing.

You are such a good paretn to volunteer. Well done!

Maybe the kids could paint paper plates orange and then draw scary faces (like they do for Jack-o-lanterns) with black marker or crayon. Then use a bit of green brenex or construction paper for the stem.

I have done your spider idea with my kindy class and they look great.

Black Cats- out of paper plates (1 small 1 large painted black) and then stick some eyes and pointy ears and a tail.

If you google halloween craft ideas for pre schoolers you should get a heap of ideas.

    Good luck and have fun!

When we were kids, our mum used to take walnuts still in shells & put a tissue around it and tie it with some cotton to make ghosts... we would draw eyes on them & hang them in the tree for trick or treats.... we also carved pumpkins (obviously not something for play group) We used to make masks from paper plates, go on ghost hunts, bob for apples.... paint faces. We used to do spiders in the egg cartons with 1 egg whole and put pipe cleaners through to make legs....

Trying to come up with them all.... but there are heaps!!! I may volunteer to go into Montessori that day!

Thanks everyone, some great ideas there. I will look at Martha Stewart now. I did a bit of googling, but only came up really with the spider and bat.
