Themed Christmas party?

DH & I will be having a Christmas party for all of our friends in December. We were thinking of a bbq/pool party without kids, and I want it to be an 80's theme. DH thinks having a theme for a Christmas party is a silly idea, as the theme is Christmas??? Is it silly, or would it be ok? I have sooooo many ideas on what I want to do for it, and I reckon it'll be really cool

If someone was to tell me that they had decided to throw a themed christmas party, and we had to dress up and everything I'd probably groan about having to spend more money on christmas.

I met a woman who had an "Underbelly" Christmas party last year - everyone had a character assigned at the door. Apparently it was a hit (no pun intended LOL!!)
