Christmas Present Ideas - Help Please

I dunno what to buy my inlaws (other than a house on the other side of the world )
Seriously though, they are retired, they read alot, they don't really do much (except annoy us) and I am at a total loss. We've bought them books for almost every birthday/celebration and its getting a bit old. I have a nice canvas print of DS for them, but need to throw something else in - around the $50 mark. Any ideas?

Also my nephew - 13 yo - again no idea - price range around the $30+ mark

Everyone else is easy to buy for but am at a loss for these two gifts, DH is no help, despite them being on his side of the family hahahahaha

    TIA

It's no help to you but I wanna buy my ILS a voodoo knife block - totally symbolic of how we were treated this year lol.

Seriously 13 yr old, give the money!!! If you don't mind doing that, when I was 13 that's all I wanted so I could go shopping. Or buy a movie voucher. Do they have an xbox or playstation??? Games are always good.

Best thing I bought and fairly cheap was paintball vouchers (no mention of price on it- just a day pass). Try red balloon or adrenalin. I bought dh and his brothers and closest friend all one each and BAM I was the favorite person of the day

Again check on red balloon or even living social or something for the ILS maybe a lunch somewhere nice?? Or a short half day tour.

I love these websites in case you can't tell

hahahaha - we have one of those voodoo knife blocks, they are cool!!

Not a fan of giving money for gifts - and he gets $100 from the ILs (his grandparents) so he'll be cashed up. He does have a Wii and Playstation, but I have no idea what games he already has.

Might keep an eye out on a voucher/experience for the ILs - good idea!

I have given that knife block as a gift before - but to people who it's just right for - and they've loved it!! some mightn't see the fun side

For the inlaws, have you considered making a calendar (though the big w website or snapfish or whatever) with lods of pics of your DS? we did that last year, and it worked an absolute treat.

Or are they the kind of people you could pick a CD or DVD for?

There's always that uber thin line with some people, between stuff that they would like, but that they haven't bought for themselves ... there's only so many books and decorations that a person will use!!

When in doubt, I love the TEAR catalogue (or oxfam or world vision or whatever) gifts, where you buy a heiffer or a tree plantation kit, or a midwife training course or whatever. I use the TEAR one a lot, because they send you quite pretty cards (or e-cards if you prefer) which say what was bought on your behalf, with a photo that matches.

So you can pick an appropriate one ... with my FIL (who has a great sense of humour) we got him a goat, with a friend who was studying, we got some adult literacy and numeracy funding, with someone we disagree with a lot we got a toilet ... with a vegetarian friend we got an organic veggie starter kit, and a smokefree oven ... and prices start at around $5 and go all the way up to $1500 (to drill a bore well) or $2000 (to build a school) or even $5000 (to fit out a whole village with water, etc).

We find it pretty exciting - but not everyone appreciates those kinds of gifts ...

For the 13yo I'm not sure ... he's probably bursting at the seams with videogames etc, so I'd maybe pick something sporting related ... a nice soccer ball, or boogieboard or something like that - if you think he'd use it?

How much does a skateboard cost these days? And would his parents forgive you??

Red Balloon is awesome. As are vouchers for a nice restaurant or similar for the in-laws.

Skateboards are way more than $30 for the 13yo, but you can possibly pick up a bunch of awesome accessories if he is already into skating etc by walking into a skate shop and talking to the people there. Otherwise there's things like movie vouchers, itunes vouchers, a good belt etc. Depends on what he's into really, so could be worth talking to his mum directly.

Movie tickets are good, especially if you can get gold class!
