    Question Kids age and OS travel

    What age were your kids when you went on your:

    * First OS family holiday,
    * Where did you go and
    * For how long?

    I took Yasin to the UK when he was 11 months old for 3 weeks
    This year we took the boys to Paris and the UK for 2 weeks. Imran was 2 and Yasin was 3 and a bit.

    Gabriella was 18 months old when we took her to Hawaii for 2 weeks, we also stopped in Melbourne for a few days so all up it was a 3 week trip.

    We took both kids travelling around parts of Eastern/Western Europe last year for 8 weeks stopping in Dubai both ways for 3 days each time. Part of the trip was spent in Croatia where we have family (around 3 weeks) and then we spent around 3 and a bit weeks driving around by car. Fantastic experience. It was Alex's first o/s flight but not his first flight. He was 14 months old and Gabriella was just under 4. It was a fantastic experience!

    We are taking both kids to Fiji this xmas time as well.

    First OS trip to NZ, DS was 6 months old, for two weeks. It was easier than driving to East Gippsland with him for a weekend!!
    Second (REAL trip!) was to Ireland and London (just London, whereas Ireland was a road trip to see family and attend a wedding), DS was 19 months old, we were gone for 3 and a half weeks.
    DS was great on the flights, though BFing is the biggest reason for that. He became crap in the car, cos he wanted to be running around, not stuck in a car (at least in the plane he could walk up and down the aisles!). He loved train travel in London (and the bit we did in Ireland).
    I think any age for kids is great to travel, and the less gadgetry/equipment you take, the more enjoyable for everyone. Much easier if you can share a big family bed whilst away, especially for booking accommodation We co-sleep, so it was with curiosity that B&B's would say "So, there are 2 adults and one child...and you only want one double bed?"..."ummm, yep". With two children, maybe you could get them to sleep in the one bed whilst away, or keep one child in with you, so that you dont' have to book as many beds. After all, it's a travel holiday - it doesn't have to be the same arrangement as at home, does it?

    Our boys share a double bed at home so we try to book rooms with 2 double beds or 1 double and a fold out.
    I think one of the great things about co-sleeping is that it simplifies traveling - there's no need to request cots and worry that bubs won't sleep in a strange bed because next to you it doesn't seem so strange.
    Expedia is great for booking for families because it gives an option for how many adults and how many children whereas wotif and others just ask how many adults.
