Everytime I go to Sydney I HAVE to catch a ferry to Manly and spend a few hours there, particularly if the weather is good. I also HAVE to go shopping at QVB![]()
DH and I are in need of a mini break and we have decided to go to Sydney for a few days in October to wind down and have some fun.
We're going to a concert while we are there and we will probably go to Taronga Zoo and Paddy's as well.
What are some fun things two adults (who behave like kids) can do in Sydney? I would love some suggestions of what you Sydney-siders do for a fun day out. We will be staying in the CBD.

are you going to be here on the friday night? I know you are busy on the Sunday! Lol or is it the monday? Lost track of when its slipknot/messugah
You HAVE to go to BLINK if you are (here on the Friday that is)................
Check out Newtown for some good cheap food (bus or taxi from the city) so very "cosmic".
The ferry is cool - if you go to the zoo you can do the ferry there......
Luna park.
If you are going to paddy's make a day of it in china town - a few beers and karaoke is fun down there.........
I second the ferry to Manly. Get Max Brenners while yu're there... fish and chips on the beach (along with teenage making out), and then ice cream from the little ice cream shop on the way back...
but, if you're PTing get daily passes... it's expensive. we spent forty dollars on one days pt in sydney and we caught two trains and a ferry![]()
yes - if you are going to use PT get yourselves a "blue weekly" each - its $32 but its unlimited bus and ferry for a week, to many areas, including manly. a red weekly includes trains too.
most of our buses are now pre pay only too so you will need one......
We're flying so will be using PT - will get one of those cards - how much is the red weekly?
We fly in on the Monday morning (Meshuggah on Monday night) and leave on Wednesday night - so three days total.
So far I have on my list:
Paddy's/Chinatown
Taronga Zoo (my fav place on earth)
Manly
QVB
Doyals at Watsons Bay (the fish and chips stand - not the exy restaurant!)
If its a nice day I want to go to the RBG and Government House - call me boring but I just love those grand old buildings - and I haven't been before!
K - we went to Newtown a couple of years ago for a concert - very much our style!
I think its $35 ... i use the blue ones so I am not 100%..... but the red one doesnt cover the airport train line (if that is why you wanted the train).
Sounds like all you will need is the blue one. (and a taxi to/from the airport).
Check out the roar and snore packages at the zoo... not sure if they do weekdays though........ you will love it!
If you're in Chinatown have Yum-Cha for breafast.
I always take my OS visitors to Bondi for fish and chips by the beach.
The bridge climb if you're not scared of heights.
5f you drink a pub crawl through The Rocks gives you a chance to look at some historic sites. Lots of the pubs around there have a story - The Fortune Of War used to be used for press-ganging sailors. They'd go for a drink and wake up at sea (poor things).
If you want to act like kids have a play in the water features in Darling Harbour.
Do the bridge climb!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its great views
A captain cook dinner cruise is nice also we did one a few years ago.
The sydney tower walk on outside is good also but bridge is better.
DH proposed to me on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge!! We also did the Tower Walk last year when we were Sydney at the end of our honeymoon.
A pub crawl at The Rocks sounds fantastic - will put that one on my list. Yum Cha for breakfast??!!
Roar and Snore looks awsome - a bit exy though.
Yum Cha is a Chinese breakfast.
You sit down and they wheel trolleys full of yummy food (dim sum) past your table and you pick the ones that you like. Each time you get one the server puts a stamp on your bill then they add it up at the end. I'm not sure how but the more people you have the cheaper it works out even though you eat just as much.
East Ocean (in the Chinatown mall) and Marigold are my pick of the Yum-Cha restaurants.
My favourite dishes are the steamed prawn dumplings and the steamed chinese spinach with the black sauce.
There's no agonising over the menu or waiting for your meal and each plate only has about 4 things on it so you can try heaps of things.
Dach that sounds so delicious! I've written those restaurants down - YUM YUM YUM
So I think Monday will be spent on the Ferries (Manly, Watsons Bay, and a half day at Taronga then the concert)
Tuesday will be Haymarket, RBG/Government House, Circular Quay and The Rocks
Wednesday - NO IDEA!!!
The concert I'm going to is in Kensington - is there anything fun to do there (apart from shop at Peter's) or good places to eat?
what time are you getting in bella? I dont know if you will fit all of that in on monday and still have energy for messugah!
lol I wouldnt............
I have only ever ventured over to kensington to go to the roundhouse too...... not sure what is on that side of the city.
yum cha definately rocks!
We would get in pretty early - about 8ish I think.
Hmmm perhaps we can push Taronga to Wednesday and spend Monday afternoon in Kensington.
Centenial Garden is close to Kensington. I used to love riding my bike round there - I'm pretty sure that you can hire bikes from somewhere nearby or horses from the stables if you're into riding. You're not to far from Bondi Junction in Kensington (there are buses between them) and there is some good shopping there. A bit further and you're at the beaches - Bronte is my favourite of the beaches but they're all nice.
Thanks Dach! I will get out a map of Sydney tonight so I can get my bearings!
Very excitedDH hasn't had any time off since our wedding - and that was a year ago next week! Really looking forward to having a little break with him. We need it!
Take a float plane from Rose Bay up to the Cottage Point Inn and stay the night in one of the rooms behind the restaurant....even if you don't want to spend the night up there, then think about the plane trip for the views.... Click Here
I live ten mins from Manly & I have to say if you're coming over on the Ferry you MUST stop at Max Brenners chocolate cafe, its at Manly wharf & you pass it when you get off the ferry.... OMG I always get a chocolate dip (strawberrys & melted choc) & a chocolate lick (a small cup of melted chocolate for you to dip a stick or spoon in & eat mmmmmmmm) & the hot chocolates are awesome too. & the waffles LOL I could keep going but I think you get the idea....
also if you're in Manly & you're big kids then maybe stop by waterworks? Its a water slide park just next to the Manly aquarium. I haven't been there for years but I used to love it. It should be warm enough.....
Fish & chips on Bondi Beach
If you're a Home & Away fan (which I'm pretty sure you are) take a trip to Palm beach, they film it there. You may be lucky enough to see them film or you can just get your photo taken infront of the Summer Bay SLSC & grab something to eat at the kiosk.
Cant think of anything else at the moment besides the Bridge climb etc
