What age would you leave your baby?

IF you were going to take a week for an overseas holiday... at what age would you be comfortable going without your babies???

Depends who I was leaving them with... with my MIL - NEVER!!! lol

With my mum - probably when they are sleeping through the night, can dress themselves, eat all their meals and aren't too rowdy...

Hmm... so that would be when they are... teenagers? lol

We won a trip to London in June next year (yippppeee!) and are taking our 5mth old with us.... no way would we ever leave our baby with someone at that young age.... and i'll be b/feeding too.
Everyone has asked us "so who's minding bub" and i'm like "NOONE!!" as if....

I would probably consider once the baby is 2yrs old to leave with a very close family member perhaps? But then that seems so young..... I'm not sure....

Good question PP. Friends of ours just left their nearly 3yo twins with grandparents for 2 weeks while they went away, and I keep thinking that I could never do that. I went away overnight when DS2 was 11 months and I cried at the airport LOL! I think by the time they are in their 30s I might be ok with it .

I may be going to Bali for 2 weeks at the end of March and my DS would be staying with my mum, who we live with at the moment anyway.

Recently i changed my mind to 1 week only as i couldn't bear to leave him for 2. 1 week will be hard enough! However, the way things look in Bali at the moment, the 1 week may be cancelled too!

Dh is fine with it and he really wants to go on our belated honeymoon but wants it to be child free.
He is happy with ds 12 months and DD 2 years but i think i would be stressing the whole time!

DD has stayed with my mum a few times for up to 3 nights and she just loves it! My mum looks after her 1 day a week though so they have a very strong bond and close relationship. I think she would have to be 5 or older though for me to leave her for over a week.

i left my DS for 1 night when he was 18 months old with my mum. We went and stayed 2.5 hours away, by the next day we couldn't wait to get back home to see him!

I wouldn't go overseas without him til he is a teenager

TT- our trip to Bali (with kids) is sooner than that. So hoping that things stay calm there for a while.

PP - IKWYM. I would be stressing too. And you want to be able to enjoy yourself. Maybe you could go somewhere where your parents or ILs could go too and stay nearby to baby sit the kids, but somewhere where you can still have time apart and privacy. Just a thought.

i told DH maybe when they are 5 or 6 and at school. Then we could have a week off?
I think it will be a while anyhow. I would take them with me.... perhaps i could find somewhere with good kids club?

I'd be happy to leave DD (15 months) overnight with my mum now (not that that's an option because she's in the UK) but any other family member, NO. Not that I don't trust them but because I would hate DD to feel scared, worried etc. when she woke up in the morning and we weren't there.

I can't imagine going away for a week unless they were at an age where I could tell them what was happening and knew that they understood that it was only temporary. So I guess around 5 or 6ish maybe.

I've left DD overnight with grandma & grandad and that was fine, however we are going on our honeymoon overseas next March and are taking DD, who will be 18 months, along with us. We would just be too worried about her to enjoy our honeymoon. Just praying she will be ok on the flight, now that she's older & walking she might be hard to keep under control!!

When we went to Melbourne for our belated honeymoon we left the kids then aged 2.5 and 12 months with MIL for a week. Was nice to finally have a break although i did ring every day to check up on them. They were fine and loved spending time with nanna. Although MIL is probably the only family member i would leave them with.

When they are 25. We are going on our honeymoon in 13 months, when ds is 23 months. He will be coming with us. I couldn't leave him anywhere, I would just worry the whole time.
