Evaporative Coolers?

I'm thinking of getting one for DDs room as it gets all the morning and some arvo sun and it's so hot in there the poor thing. A fan just isn't cutting it

anyone have anus experiences with evaporative coolers? are they worth it? it's only a very small room so not a big deal there. I know a portable air con would be ideal but I'd prefer to not spend that much obviously

I would love to get one but were in a rental so it's either portable, fans or evap cooler. though it seems likely to be a portable a.c. now :/

You would be better getting a portable A/C in my opinion. The other thing to do is to approach the Real Estate agent and see if the landlord is willing to put in a split system.

Evaporative systems do not work in humid weather or extreme heat. They can actually damage your floors and carpet as they need dry air to operate and during humid weather they don't get this. It then creates wet floors and damp carpet due to the humidity.

my mum has a refrigerated A/C mounted, but doesn't use it because of the costs. she went out and bought a portable (kind of) refrigerated fan, you top it up with water every few hours, and she says it works really well. cost her about $100 from homeart

Like most have said, evap cooling sucks, makes you feel hotter then you were to start with.

isn't that an evaporative cooler? I have no idea :/ i thought evaporative coolers were the ones where you pour the water in and thats how it cools the air?

We do have a split system in our home, however it is in the loungeroom, which due to the layout of the house doesn't get anywhere near the bedrooms

When the girls were young we had one and it worked well.

Sometimes I would put the clothes horse up, drape a sheet over some of it and the rest in a bucket water.

My parents have one, its better than nothing but they suck, if there is a hint of humidity or over 35C it is usekess.

When I was younger and renting with a friend and we had a 2 story and the split system was down stairs and bedrooms upstairs, there were many nights we camped out in the lounge room in the middle of summer
