Do Not Call register

I am getting so sick of telemarketers calling me every evening. On average I get 2 calls a night, often more.

So I finally decided to google the "do not call" register. It literally took 60 seconds to register and in 30 days I should get no more calls. Genius! I wonder why it took me months of annoying calls before I finally took action

just be aware it doesn't stop charitible organisations calling you... and i think maybe survey lines...

BG's right, charities can still contact you. But it should stop most other calls so I won't spend half the night running to the phone and trying to politely explain that I do not need to new gas/electricity/internet supplier. Gah, they drive me up the wall!

Charities are usually pretty good - they have their own register so if you tell them once you want no more calls, they will remove you from the database

How do you get on a 'do not call me about my computer needing servicing / has a virus / is running slowly etc etc' register?? I get at least one call a week from India from the "microsoft support desk" !!! Drives me nuts! I tell them what they are doing is illegal and they are going to go to jail when they are caught and they hang up pretty quickly!

That Indian Microsoft thing called me at work. I told them as a bank we have very good IT systems and support and I seriously doubted anyone in Microsoft had asked her to call our branch

Don't forget that the DNC register doesn't include Market research, so please don't get angry if you get a Market research call It's what I used to do and what DH still does. However, if you don't wish to receive these calls, or even if you are happy to do one survey but don't want anymore, just ask the person on the phone to remove you from the system Unless it's random digit dialling...but in that case it's very unlikely you'll get further calls

And if you do still get them (cos some how a few always sneak through), as soon as you say "thanks but I'm on the DNCR", they hang up like a shot. They can be fined big amounts for not updating their lists and calling people on the register.

and if they still do ring after you've told them you're on the DNCR you can get your telco to track them and pass on the details so they get reported for it (we had to do it and this one company's number wouldn't come up on our phone as they blocked their number but Telstra (our provider) was able to track down who they were and report them

or you can simply ask what company they are calling from, note down time and date and report direct to DNCR. they are really on the ball with tracking it - i have had two call through, and have had letters a couple of month later about the result of legal procedings in class action cases against the companies and the fines they've received

We received sooo many calls that DH started talking with an indian accent back and he'd continue the conversation, say totally random things until they would hang up on him....Ah how the tables can turn .

We (strangely enough) receive no calls now!
