Hi everyone,

Just keeping you all posted on the twins.

I had a hind water leak on the 4th went to the chiropractor and she said that twin A was very engaged and my pubic symphsis had separated by 1 cm and my sacroilliac had soften and flattened I went into labour and laboured for 11 hours only to have the labour stop dead at 3 am. It would have been a lovely birth if it had happened. I am now on day three post hind water leak hoping that tonight is the night.

DD is a nightmare she knows that something is going on, but not what and as a result she is so grumpy and angry with everything. She clings to Daddy like he is going to leave her alone and we don't know what to do, but at the same time we know she will be fine once this is over and a sembalance of normalacy returns to our house.

I forgot to add that IMs would still have to magic up some insurance too if they could even GET a GP/OB to sign an agreement - the exemption will still need to be passed state by state and even then will be for the birth only not the pre & postnatal care, and as we know its the continuity of care that makes one to one midwifery the gold standard of care.

The thing that gets me is the number of women in they hospital maternity system who think this doesn't effect them ... OH YES IT DOES! Birth centres will be next on the list, vbac will vanish, inductions and surgery will keep sky rocketing, and so on and so forth, this law impinges upon every woman because it sets a precedent. It's a dark day in our history :(

And they're waging a war against freebirthers too with not issuing birth certs so they will effectively stamp that out leaving a hospital only "choice" for all women

What? I havent heard this? My MW didnt make the birth. 10mins from 1st feeling to baby out. If/when we have another baby, it will be a whereever i am birth, so how will they deny me a birth cert. They wont know i planned the birth at home? Not if we book into hospitals, like most homebirther do anyway as back up!

very sad re the travesty that has occured for australian women:wall:, all we can do now is try and spread the word and educate those around us so that we can all work against this new legislation!

i believe feb 18th is going to be national day of action with rallies in every state so lets try and have the biggest turn out possible and see if we cant have some input!

I have heard NSW BDM are being VERY difficult with freebirthers - to the point that they are refusing to issue even with stat decs from parents and a letter from a GP stating that they saw the woman during pregnancy, to the point where the parents were advised to get a solicitor. I have heard that they are now starting to do the same with MW homebirths and "losing" paperwork both in QLD and NSW (even paperwork that was sent registered mail)

spread the word, I had heard that 18 Feb was only in VIC or something would love to protest (again) I am one very angry woman at the moment - how dare they tell me how I'm "allowed" to use MY BODY.

I had a dream they made cosleeping illegal too - woke up very distressed!

I have had paperwork “go missing” on 2 occasions in the past 6 months.

Yk the more I think about this the more I see that it's really NOTHING to do with safety for women and babies. If it were about safety then they would be facilitating homebirth / free birth transfers, birth registration etc, however they're doing the exact opposite of that .... this is about money, and coltrol, not safety.

The AMA and RANZCOG must have been DELIGHTED by the maternity services review because the entire thing focussed on banning homebirth instead of focusing on their dangerous over medicalised practices and the impact they're having on women and babies, and the amount of money that the govt is spending to pay them for doing unnecessary surgery, inductions, etc etc.

Precisely- a review done for the government said this

"All facilities should offer women choice of carer and place of birth, more education and should promote midwife-led care across the continuum. An enormous obstacle is private obstetric charges, as obstetricians may be hesitant to forgo lucrative incomes of up to $9,000 per pregnancy, with some Sydney doctors reported to be charging up to $12,000 and earning collectively up to $1.4 billion per year." lets not forget the AMA is A UNION! Of course they are going to protect their members income. Perhaps they are scared because HB numbers have progressively been rising and every study conducted appropriately has shown it to be safe.

Regardless, This shouldn't be an slanging match of safety, it is the birthing woman's right to evaluate risk for herself and decided for HERSELF where she will birth. We are not children, we do not need to be told where we can use our vagina's.

DW has her birth registration forms lost nearly every time - and this is despite having a contact within BD&M that she sends them too.

Apparently, DW was talking to a representative from BD&M who has said that part of the problem is that they get all of their mail opened off-site and sorted at a massive government sorting centre. Apparently when the workers get mail that deviates from the normal mail that BD&M gets (like the inclusion of a pink form from a homebirth) they are simply discarding it.

Not sure how true this is.

Facebook has a page if you belong to this SNS or if you type MY BODY MY BABY MY RIGHT TO DECIDE protest in a search engine it will redirect you to relevant sites and pages.

We have one in Cairns - most are aimed at MPs offices - there are many in VIC that I can see and others in Perth as well and Brisbane! Tomorrow is banner designing day for me and my son Joss and I will be on the march on Thursday :p

I remember the struggle I had with Centrelink in particular with my first HB in 2005 and trying to get it recognised!! I was sooo-ooo tempted to take in the graphic birth photos in all their glory :lol: Qld's BDM now recognises homebirth on its site and in its application forms so that is a small step I suppose.

:( Sadly i had an ectopic rupture last week and I just dont think that ill be able to make it. I so agree with what you are saying tho....something for me to think about

Oh babe, I'm so sorry :(
I wanted to go, but it may well be a bit ambitious with my DS AND DD, cos DS is going through a non-listening phase and a long morning won't spell a great trip home (whether I train it or drive it). I did Canberra solo, don't have the luxury now :(

oh bimboo my heart screams for you and both your daughters. What a horrible mix of confusions you must be feeling and pressure you must feel under to appear happy. Is there anything I can do? want a visitor that you can be honest with?

Bimboo I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I don't really know what to say. I can imagine the comments you may get about at least you have one baby, but of course you want both your babies. How conflicted you must be trying to celebrate the joy or your living child whilst grieving the loss of your angel. I am thinking of you and both your girls.

Bimboo - I am so sorry for your loss :hug::hug: I can only imagine how devastated you and DH are.

I can see why people prefer to focus on the positives, but how is the death of one child any less just because you have another living one? If they weren't twins, maybe they'd understand more. I don't know, I can only think it must make everything so much harder.

Bimboo - my condolences on the death of your beautiful twin girl.

Try not to hold too much animosity towards the doctors, everyone - it isn't that they are refusing to sign the death certificate, it is that they are required to certify the cause of death, and if they don't know that cause, then they can't sign the certificate.

I hope that in time you can find a way to mourn Elliana and celebrate Ariyen's life.

I hope it's the way you see it, Schmickers, and not a way to punish a planned homebirth.

The loss of your babe is just so profound. I have tried to fathom this before and it breaks me. You are made of strong stuff and that can seem to let others off the hook, instead of making the effort to acknowledge your loss. Others just wouldn't know what to say and would rather talk about car tyres.
You did a beautiful job with bringing them into the world and Ariyen will always feel Elliana :hug:

Bimboo I am very sorry that this happened to you and your family.

I feel really bad coming in here now to report this, bringing happy news after such a loss, but I am edging my way towards a homebirth via the Sunshine Hospital's scheme. If all goes well I will have a HB in October. I am surprised at how quickly I am considered to be accepted "in" the scheme (subject to a OB check, of course, at about 20 weeks :rolleyes: ). The MW I spoke to today said I am considered very low risk for a HB so while nothing is certain I am pretty optimistic.

will light a candle for your angel girl Bimboo! Wil have you in my thoughts and heart friday, be brave but that doesnt mean that i expect you not to feel, i know that a part of you will go with your daughter on friday!

Tegam - just noticed your loss :( My mum had two ectopic pregnancies (after me and after my sister), and I always mean to ask her about her feelings about this - it gets mentioned, but I haven't thought to talk about it since my sister and I had kids, and then second pregnancies. I must do that.

Mayaness.. I would ask your mum about it, i bet it would be one of the first times she has spoken of it. I am physically better, mental ok and emotionally messed up still (does that even make sense?) I am carrying on day to day as normal (LUcky life is hectic with three so this isnt hard) But i am still having to play games on m mobile til my eyes are hanging out, rather than lie in bed thinking about things. One of the hardest things which is so different from my MC is to think that this little bubba was perfect, just grew in the wrong spot. And i know that there is NOTHING i could have done but i still feel my body failed that baby. I also had genetic testing on the MC so i knew the sex, something i didnt do this time and i am really struggling with not knowing. I know i could make it up but i NEVER have any maternal feelings on sex when im pregnant so i really would be making it up. Its not like i want to name it, i just wish i knew. I am struggling with the thought of trying again, in that i mean that i hope i fall quickly. I did after my MC and it really helped, i hope i dont have a long wait ahead of me. My arms and heart feel empty :( But i also know how lucky i am for the three i have. When i say i feel empty its really like a thought in the back of my mind like i have forgotten something.....weird.

ANYWAY sorry i didnt mean to have a big D & M, just thinking of Bimboo is making it all seem sader today. I wish i could give her some strength and i wish no mother ever had to bury her baby!

D&M away :hug: My mum mentions it and kind of glosses over it - probably because at the time (70s) you were treated as if it was never really a pregnancy at all and I reckon a bit of her emotional issues (anger management etc) can be attributed to this time. She would have been told to get on with it because she had a healthy daughter (for the first one) then two healthy daughters (for the second one). She was so disempowered coming to this country - had she been pregnant back in her original country she would have been nurtured incredibly, and she would have had us at home with a doula from the village, the way my grandma did.
Anyway, I think recent events have started a few things for us in this thread - that's not a bad thing :hug: everyone.

Rory that is awesome that you have been "accepted" into the sunshine HB program!

Just had my first MW appointment today, her name is Melanie and she is lovely, aside from being an obvious HB advocate she had had 4 children herself, one of whom was born at home. Heard a HB which was promising and now I am just counting down.

woohoo thats great. always nice when you feel that the MW understands what you are going thru and attempting! Congrats! Cant wait to hear more about your journey.
