Cassius- not long now!!!

Ree- nope havent used Hypnosis with my births.. just kinda went with the flow.


Well i am now just shy of 17 weeks and have started to prep my children for the birth, watching lots of you tube videos and brought the book hello baby.. which DD3 (4yrs) thinks is funny as LOL
I think Dh is becoming more ok with the idea and even myself no where near as doubtful about it. We have decided not to go with a pool, since i have always had such short labours i doubt we would get it filled in time and the midwife agrees. Am planning on getting a mattress for the lounge and I have my fit ball so they are my tools. i can use my shower or bath if i wish as well.

Have booked in for my placenta encapsulation as well

B: that is all sounding so awesome and positive! my DD2 (2 years) loves the hello baby book, but now thinks that sometimes you poo a baby out lol, she screams out on that page where it is being born: "baby poo!" hahahaha.

The shower could be really comfy as well if you can get the fit ball in there too to lean over while someone runs hot water across the back...and think about some nice soft cushioning for your knees...eeekk! so exciting planning all the ways!!

Cass: sounds like you're all set!! How exciting :) Maternity Coalition in Melb are doing a screening of the Ina May doco too if you're interested - I think in Northcote and Elwood?

Beatrix: and BIG YAY for the encapsulation! i am so excited to be doing this this time. anything to help us through this new transition is always welcome i reckon!

B - sounds like you're really getting there! Runa's Birth was another book DD1 likes, and We're Having a Homebirth! Hello Baby makes me teary. ;) fitball was great for me too, esp with a warm wheat pack held on my lower back.

My birth with DD2 was pretty quick but the pool was heaven! If we have another I will still want one, but I will make sure it's set up ready to fill again! We had it ready this time because I find the pump noisy and DP filled it as soon as I asked. I used it for about three hours and a little while after she was born. Pushing was good in the water, although next time ;) should be faster than 50 mins.

Cassius - set up like that and you should get most things. What kind of photos do you want this time?

Jen- my last birth was 35min from 1st contraction. My main goal is for my midwife to MAKE the birth LOL

haha, me too! but it is the fact that it comes in wee little pills and looks all normal and not livery (:lol:) that convinced me lol!

Jenn: i am after pretty much what i had last time with the photos. Hopefully my calmbirth instructor can make it to this birth as well as she is also a professional photographer that took some lovely shots for us last time. I just really want someone (that isnt DH) to take that first shot of meeting the baby IYKWIM. it's such a powerful moment and i really want that on record!

I just dont feel that anything is imminent...well, all considered that i am only a week and bit away from EDD ITMS lol.

Beatrix: how long would it take to fill the pool though? I thought ours was around 20 mins...hmmm yeah probably not a great deal of time for you for the pain relief properties! we have our pool ready pumped up to help the process be quicker, but it is the filling time that you lose out on i guess. how do you feel about another quick birth? mine was almost 3 times longer at 1.5 hours and i felt that was too quick in many ways. just wanted to savour it more ITMS.

I'd imagine a quick birth would be a shock to the system in a lot of ways. DD's was 6 hours, I liked that length. I'd really like 3-4 hours, I think that would be perfect. I'm sure I'll have a 14 hour labour now that I've said that haha.

i only got into my pool 10 mins ish before baby arrived (have to check my notes), and it was still absolutely awesome and relaxing and a mindshift for me. i also hung out there for quite awhile after. if i ever go again, i would try to get it sorted earlier but i thought i would be in for a longer birth, and DH was quite nonchalant.

if you didn't want a birth pool, maybe get some mats for the shower floor or in your regular bath, if you have one.

I made it to sydney for the saturday 'childbirth on the fringe'. i decided to just fly up and back on the same day. i didn't get to see Jen, but hopefully one day we will catch up! kids calling but will tell you about it when i get some time.

I gathered it got a bit frantic, Hot1. I'm regretting not going to the Childbirth and the Law workshop on that day, I've been told it was great. I still have the webinar to watch.

HotI: how long did the pool take to fill? Mine is a 450ltr capacity I vaguely remember that it was about 20 minutes...:think:

On a sombre HB note, the IM Sonja MacGregor that was reported by Nepean Hospital (for transferring a woman in her own car, nothing more) has been ordered to do further training - courses that cost $6k. She can't attend HBs in the meantime. There's fundraising going on today via FB, pm me if you'd like details.

At the film on Friday night there was a new HB mum who had Sonja as her m/w up until the order - just a few weeks before her bub was due. She booked into the closest hospital, with no other IMs available, but had a freebirth at home instead. This is the reality for IMs and mums who depend on them in Australia. :(

Bub was born fine and both Mum and bub did go to get checked out at the hospital afterwards to get the all clear.

I am appalled that an IM with so much experience and a great record could be subject to such action and threat to her livelihood with so little cause.

Same Jen. It's shocking. There are some great things going in the auction, I hope they raise enough for her, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out.

Reported for transferring a woman in her car? My gosh. I'm disgusted but not surprised - my m/w was reported for similar non-issues :( What a loss to her community. And yet Drs who repeatedly injure and abuse women are allowed to continue practicing *shakes head*

Sonja's been approved for a supervisor, so she can still attend births, so myself and the two other ladies she has expecting in November are covered. She's not taking on any new pregnancies though, too risky at this point. It's shocking what they are putting her through! That's great news about the fund raising, that'll be a huge help for her. :clap: She's such an inspiring woman!
