Its such an exciting time Kel. So excited for you!!

Jen - A friend of mine does take on clients wishing to birth at home. She is about to have a babe herself so I dont expect she'll be taking on anyone at the moment but I have sent her a message in relation to myself

Cassius - Well there you go! I'm actually born and raised in Townsville. We moved to Brissy in 09 for Uni. Yes I've never done a tropic summer heavily pregnant so I'm a bit nervous. Both girls were winter babies so this will be an interesting one. I suspect I'll be down the strand lazing in a chair a fair bit!!

Kelly: I forgot to add that it is super cool that your DP is taking leave now xx Such a special time...I know that i have said this a bazillion times so apologies if it is starting to grate on your nerves

Sara: yep. The strand is where i would live hahahaha...you could also just float around the rock pool and then waddle up to the cafe above for some yummo food...oh gosh, i wish i were there RIGHT NOW lol.

I do not have the tropics love. Hate humidity, hate sweat and I have transparent skin. I was fashioned for much milder climes! Going back to visit Tsv is a winter activity and I pack my Sydney summer gear.

I get around the cold night time feeds here by cosleeping. All set!

Having said that, I was quite looking forward to pg days in the pool last summer and it was such a cool one that only happened a few times!

At least you don't need to worry about keeping the room warm for birth!

This is what i was thinking about having a November baby! then i remembered that I live in Melbourne

I am starting to put together all the little things for my labour and baby bag...so exciting! Have the face mist spray stuff, the rescue remedy, the birthing oil (a clary sage mix etc) and some of the homeopathics that i picked up while in italy...
havent started on the bigger practical things like gloves, and plasticy mat thingos (didnt use them last time being a waterbirth and all).

So homebirth midwives can now continue to be indemnified until July 2015. Govt also announced variations to collaborative care arrangements (meaning they won't be required from what I can gather for IMs at home births).

The AMA has condemned the decision as undermining care and safety. So it must be a fairly good outcome! AMA president says, "the Commonwealth ... will be essentially allowing private practice by an independent midwife."

Hallelujah! We can only hope it improves from here. So maybe emails to the Health Minister are not in vain. Might send her a thank you one now too.

Off to read in more detail. Relieved on two fronts personally 1) my midwife and her colleagues around the country can still practice and 2) my PHI will likely continue to provide HB cover.

Huge Congrats Kelly. Good on you for trusting your instincts hun

Jen - Hahahaha yeah true! I plan to have a blow up pool in the back yard permanately filled. A part of me is a tad worried about how I'll handle the tropical summer. Time will tell!!

I see some big changes happening on the Homebirth front. I've seen a link floating around on Facey that they are going to abolish the Collaborative Agreement requiring Midwives to work with Dr's in regards to Home birthing women. I wonder who's making all these changes. I hope its not just a fascade!
