Welcome to our little club dot face ;) its so lovely in here I can't make myself leave even though I think ill birth in hospital this time so I'm sure you'll be very welcome and supported here. I'm on the other side of the country do have no idea about your options over there sorry.

Thanks girls. Cassius no I don't think she will be coming with me unfortunately, she didn't mention it and I really don't think we could afford to anyway. My dh is a truely wonderful birth partner (if I had to choose having him there or a mw I would choose him!) I am considering looking into a trainee mw or even doula in case dh gets stuck at work which is unfortunately a possibility, but I don't know if I want someone else there or not iykwim?

Positive thinking here - I WILL be on that list by the end of the year. I will, I will! I'm going to have a BFP in a few weeks, and I'm going to participate a lot in this thread... :crossfingers:

Also, WOW. What a long list so far :D Going back to the first list in the HB threads, they were only keeping track of three or four... Now there's at least one a month so far! How wonderful :)

September seems to be extremely popular - guess people were getting a bit lovey dovey around Xmas lol (well that's what happened here pmsl)

Dot Face! Welcome! :hello: I had to LOL at your GPs comments about drowning :lol: I guess the moral to the story is that one, shall not, while labouring at home in water, feel the need to undertake the swimming of laps due to increased risk of drowning mid contraction hahahahahaha!
I am sorry though that you had to face such sucky, ignorant comments. I had that too, until i found a GP that reflected our values and actually knew a thing or two about HB (unfortunately a rarity!). i was once told by a really ignorant GP that sterile water injections were a lot of crap and nothing more than placebo and then proceeded to tell me that getting a shot of the water in the leg was a nice way to pretend to get pain relief hahahaha. i was like, ummm, first off, it doesnt go in the leg and anything you tell me here on in is like white noise.

and oh, the dead HB baby stories. they do like those. As though a baby dying at home is far more tragic and unpreventable than your baby dying in hospital...which it is not. study after study has shown outcomes for mothers and babies to be on par with planned hospital births.

Teni: 2013 has to be the year baby!!! bring it on!!!!!

:o Dot Face, what the?? I take it you didn't point out that since the baby died in hospital, it's hardly a horror home birth story. I would have been tempted to be a smarty pants and comment on how it is terrible to hear about all these babies that die in hospitals. Or how the midwives are so overloaded that women end up giving birth alone.

AFM, I am 39 weeks tomorrow and I think I'm ready now :D
Bubs' clothes, nappies and hammock are good to go. The birth pool and all its accessories have arrived. I've got a tub full of 'things' that will be needed for the birth.
Photographer and placenta encapsulation all organised.
DH has finished the ceiling renovations and I've cleaned up all the mess that entailed (DUST galore!)
So now we wait. I'm feeling great and not 'over it' yet. Though so many people assume I must just be sick of being pregnant by now and want my baby out, that presumption is just making me even more determined to be calm and enjoy being pregnant :P
Thinking I might start the EPO inserting soon....

ReeRee - so glad that you're feeling well prepared, and still enjoying your pregnancy! I know for myself I am SO READY TO BE DONE by that stage! Gives me a little hope that maybe this time will be different. :) I'll be impatient for you though - I can't wait to hear your birth story!

Ree ree I was thinking of you yesterday wondering how you're doing. I'm glad you're still enjoying being pg and everything is sorted for you. If you decide you want to make plans to do something (which often kicks off labour haha) pm me and we can meet up :D

Had my 34 week app yesterday, my BP is holding well which is awesome for me. 19 days and my medical kits and oxygen get dropped off... so that means 19 days and we are good to go!! ekkkkk

Wonderful news Ness! :pray: bp stays steady and you'll not have any reason for anyone to try make you do anything you don't want... Count downs definitely on :D

Hi everyone else, hope you are all going well. I am off to the Dr tomorrow to get a form signed so I can be approved for medicare rebate for our midwife. 27 weeks here, feeling like the last few weeks are crawling along!!!

Looking forward to some lovely BAs soon. I loved being 40 wks pg, I was determined not to come before I passed my EDD! (Although that was 1 Jan, so I was thinking of both us and bub and all the birthdays to come - so soon after Xmas!). Plus, I know my babies are littlies, so any extra cooking time is good. Not to mention how much easier they are to care for on the inside... ;)

Ahh my birth kit gets dropped off in two weeks!!

Slightly starting to freak out. Not about home birthing but about birthing at all!!

I know I can do it but I so don't want to. The thought of the pain again is horrible even though I know that its a so called good pain.

Is it the little things, or the whole birth, Beatrix? I'm not pg, but in some ways I have more misgivings about giving birth because I have a better idea of what to expect next time around, now that I've done it. I tend to focus on the little things that I didn't like (ie that hurt!), or I stress about birthing in a different way to what worked ITMS.

I just remind myself that if I do it again, this time I KNOW how good it is right afterwards, that I went through it and I nailed it last time. You've done it before, you'll rock this time. ;)

Basically its the fact my labour was only 35min last time, so i never got to work into it and get a feel for it, its was bang and all for nothing. yes it was short but it was extremely full on and I don't want that again. I am scared of going into labour in a public place and not being able to have control and I don't want that to happen infront of a bunch of strangers.

Yeah I could imagine that would be on your mind...

I don't know if it means anything to you, but I'm a great believer in women being able to control our bodies and how we birth to a certain extent. Have you tried visualising and thinking about what will work for you? You probably can't lengthen the labour but visualising when and where might help. Can't hurt!

I have been visualising the middle of the night... well hoping for it at least, that way I know everyone would be home with me where they all need to be.

I had no thoughts as to when in the day, but I was convinced DD2 would be born on 3 Jan, 2 days after my EDD. Lots of early labour the day beforehand, but sure enough, the real thing kicked in on that evening, 3 Jan. She was born just after midnight, so I was slightly off there, but ever so close. I watched the doco "The Worst Place to Be A ... Midwife" and it was set in Liberia. The traditional birth attendants told stories of putting women on buses who needed to go to hospital while in labour and tying a stone to their bellies to stop labour. Apparently, when they got off at the other end and the stone was removed, they'd often birth the baby almost immediately. The power of our minds is incredible!

40 weeks today!
Had a S&S yesterday, cervix is 2cm, stretchy but thick, midwife could feel bubs head.
Having a lot of blood streaked mucus since I got up this morning, prob just the effects of the S&S. No other indications that I could be in labour anytime soon, just the usual BH's. Went for a nice walk this morning.

Starting to get impatient now, though I won't admit it to anyone IRL ;) lol

Oh SO exciting ree ree! Im sure all of us here understand you feeling a little over it and ready to meet bubby. Is it old or fresh blood streaks? I'm hoping for fresh for you and that you'll have a beautiful labour and birth at home today/tonight!
I guess if you go another day or few you'll have adequate reason for not getting to a polling booth Sat (if you cant be bothered!).
Btw do you mind me asking who your mw/mws are? I can almost definitely work out who with just initials if you don't wanna put actual names, I'm just curious but feel free not to tell if you rather ;)

I think its more fresh than old blood, not bright but not brown itms lol

Hi girls, I hope you don't mind me popping in here. I am currently starting to set myself up as a private practice midwife, still very early days, but trying to soak in as much information on homebirths as possible, so would be good to see it from your eyes and what other midwives offer. Please note that I am also keen on my own homebirth and only didn't have one because it isn't an option in my area (no midwives!!) hence my trying to get into the biz so the woman here have more choice. please don't let my being a mw change your chatter or affect it. if it does just let me know and i won't join in =) but like i said, want as much stuff on the topic as possible!! =)

i am still totally excited for you Ree...and TOTALLY jealous hahahahaha! seriously, the post birth high that comes from having a baby at home is just frikkin' addictive lol.

you are more than welcome in here TT40! the more the merrier and how very very cool that you are going to be a MIPP!! woo hoo! the more the better...have you seen the new report that shows that between 2009 and 2010 HB went up more than 56% in Australia :) we gotta love those stats!

I have a birth pool, I've had a blessingway, I've had a tonne of pre labour and a few nights where I was certain it was beginning.

I'm practicing patience. Not long now :)
