Wahoo Cricket!!! welcome to the world little baby Seth :happyforyou:
Marcellus: wow, that would of driven me bonkers lol! not to mention DD if i had her in tow lol. how many hossy appts are there?
That's it! I got a funny look from the OB when I said this: "Hopefully I won't have to see you again"
:leap: Congratulations cricket!
Congratulations Cricket! Think I might be next - my waters have started leaking....
Congratulations Cricket!!! Such wonderful, wonderful news!! Yay for another babe born at home!! :D
Oh Rory- how exciting too!! Thinking of you :D
Rory!!! totally exciting!! as our Arimeh would say...get that booty shaking baby!!
can't wait to hear how it all went...and remember...you dont have to go anywhere!!
Yay go Rory! So exciting, all these babies arriving........who's the next one on the home stretch?
Hope all's going well RoryR!
happy birthing Rory!
As I posted in the other thread I think it was a false alarm, thankfully. There are so many "rules" with this HB program I am starting to think I need an IM....
Oh- what happened with todays meeting to make you feel that way Rory? I was a little concerned if you were leaking that they would put you on the clock and you may miss out on your HB through a hospital program given how strict the rules are. It's not too late to consider an IM if you want to...
Hope you're okay
wow, so what are these rules? Maybe something I have to ask my middies about.
The backup one said most transfers are due to prolonged labour... maybe due to rules...?
Girls I just posted this - I reckon it happened to me : resealed leak
Today's meeting was cancelled - apparently there are lots of women due right now. But I asked about PROM and was told if labour doesn't start within 24 hours I would have to birth in hospital. Plus "my" midwife is on annual leave for ALL of September (I am due on 6/10) which I think is pretty poor form (especially when she knows my 2nd was 6 days early).
I am just starting to think that the hospital program is like the worst of both worlds....
I think a resealed leak sounds very possible. So long as everyone keeps their hands out of you I'm sure its no problem either ;)
Do you want to ring around some IMs and get a feel for the possibilities? At least it would be cheaper by this stage in the game as you don't need as many antenatal appointments! If you want any recs then let us know. I found the MIPPS website a good place to start.
That's frustrating!
I might finally meet my primary midwife in a couple of weeks (got transferred to a new one).
24 hours isn't very long. The extra rules for hospital-based homebirth programs are really frustrating!
TBH the rules is the major reason I didn't want to go with a publicly funded hospital home birth program. I was concerned my entire pregnancy last time that I would be transferred out of the birth centre and then after 2 hours of pushing I almost was (even though neither baby nor I were in distress). I've chosen IM care to avoid the 'rules' and let logic and sense prevail.
Yeah. I am slightly concerned by the 20% transfer rate. Birth centre's even worse at 50%. The midwife told me she was there recently doing a tour and they had stats up from the previous month - transfer rate of 80%!!!! WTF are they doing there?
Having to go to hospital for some stupid 'rule' is my greatest fear to be honest. There are only 3 IMs in Perth apparently, so I'm not sure how hard it is to book one. Perhaps I should look into it just in case.
I suppose you can just refuse to go to hospital, but of course then they'd have to leave you to freebirth. What craziness.
The perth program seems pretty good marcellus. My friend had her son through the program 3.5 years ago and it was a long labour (over 24 hours of established labour), with baby not engaging, baby's heartrate dropping with each contraction... many reasons for a hospital to have started intervention but she didn't transfer so I guess the midwives had a lot of freedom. Not sure how much that has changed now though?
Yeah. I will talk to them about all this when I actually get the chance! The midwives seem good, just concerned that their hands may be tied on certain things. The VBAC ban for instance is a relatively recent thing.
I dont think they would leave you to freebirth....Doesnt sounds like our professional ethics standards would allow that. Not sure tho!
I must admit thats the best part of an IM and HB is that there are very few rules!
Hey ladies! Just a quick hi to everyone to let you know I posted Seth's birth story, if you want to have a read. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...-a-143504.html
We're doing really well here so far - resting, nursing, sleeping, visiting, healing, enjoying our babymoon for sure! DH has the week off of work. :)
How's everyone else doing? Rory - any new developments?
Cricket he is so cute!
Nothing new here - I am kinda relieved because I am not on the "running out of time" treadmill. I am 100% sure it was a leak (I think I mentioned I had that with my first) but that it has resealed. Now I am just back to enjoying having 3 weeks to go :)
rory: so glad that you are not on the radar at the hossy! not long now....YAY!!!!
Getting close Rory!
I'm counting down to my apt on Tuesday - meeting my new primary midwife. Our backup will be there also so trying to get DH to be here for it too.
This reminds me, need to think up my list of questions.
You need to write them down too. Dont know about you but i forget everything as soon as i walk into one of those appointments
Rory! woohoo!
Hi all, still here :) No sign of baby yet which is good - turns out a good friend of mine had a hindwater leak so I don't feel like such an anomaly any more :)
So youre a leaker Rory :shhh: i wont tell anyone
I had something like a hindwater leak with my last pregnancy - day before I went into labour I suddenly had a gush and dripped all the way to the bathroom, and then there was nothing. We went and got it checked out and they said everything was fine. :dunno: Anyways, you can consider yourself in good company, Rory. ;)
Really in the final count down now, aren't you? So exciting! How are you feeling? I know I was happy and excited about the thought of meeting my new baby during the day, and scared and excited about it at night. Definitely a mixed feeling. I've only ever had good labour experiences, but I still felt a little bit worried about going through it again. Made me a little bit edgy in the last couple weeks.
Hope your meeting with the new midwife goes well, Marcellus. Do you know anything about her? Hope she's someone you can relate to well, and feel really comfortable with.
Cassius - how's your little lady doing? And how are you feeling these days?
How's everyone else doing? I don't know if I've even "met" everyone in this thread.....
It's 7:30pm here, and I'm exhausted! I'm taking my little man and heading off to bed, I think.
Rory; not long to go now, you must be so excited! Glad the leak has stopped so you can stay under the radar.
Im lurking. Still trying to convince DH its worth spending the $$$ on an IM. Ive found one that is willing to work within our budget and still provide full care so hopefully that all works out and in 34wks or so we have a happy healthy baby at home!
My sister is here this week so I'm not on much- sorry not to catch up with all the news but I wanted to say I'm thinking of you lots Rory!!! Sending you positive labour vibes for the occasion. Did you end up deciding to call any IMs, or are you feeling good about your birth care now?
Hope everyone is going well! :D
Good luck Freya! I'm sure it's worth the money - I'd pay if we didnt' have a state funded program here (I suppose it's easy for me to say that, but anyway)
Hope you're having fun with your sister Meow.
Well, I think her name is Laura, but I might be remembering that wrong  I guess we'll have to interrogate her a little.
I have a few questions to ask relating to rules/transfers, specifically when post-dates, and breach. Also wondering about Group-B strep - thinking I'll skip the test to avoid blanket IV AB rule (which I'm assuming they follow, but will check that also).
Any other ideas about good questions to ask?
The only other thing is figuring out who will take the photos. I really want a record of my normal birth :) Our doula took pics of DS' birth, but mostly I don't really want to see them :( I know I certainly wouldn't want DS to see a birth like he had - but very happy for him to witness his siblings normal birth.
Well Ive decided not to go with an IM. I just cannot convince Dh the $$ are worth it.
BUT good news is I rang St George Hospital and enquired about their birth centre/home birth program. The midwife was infinitely more helpful than whatever stupid one I spoke to about 4 days ago who told me I couldn't birth there; theyve booked me a spot at the birth centre 100% definately so I will get an intervention free waterbirth at the very least.................but she said that Im a fabulous candidate for the home birth program except I live a teeny bit far away apparently. So they are going to discuss it at the monthly meeting because they do have a midwife who lives out this way and hopefully theyll ok it. I should have my first appt somewhere between 12-15wks. If they say no to the homebirth I will fight it, not only am I a shining example of low risk and perfect for homebirthing I have a friend who lives 10min further away than I do who had a homebirth with them in June. If they can let her do it they can let me.
So I shall lurk a bit longer until I know for certain whats happening.
That sounds very promising Freya!
Lurk away freya
Marcellus: Skip the GBS test it really is easier. I was positive for DD1 and not for DD2 But they are still wanting to Abs for this my 4th! The AB that were administered for DD1 and DD2 wouldnt have had time to take effect as it was less than an hour from birth and they need atleast 4 hours and then i didnt use any with DS and i wont with this one. If you research it which im sure you will you will see that its the "trauma" that a baby is put under at birth by medical staff that causes a baby to have a high chance of getting GBS. If you have skin to skin and you weigh and baby in a nice manner when its quiet and breast feed there is a lot less chance an say a CS or baby that is taken off mumma, weigh, jabbed with needles and given its first 'unnessasary and traumatic" bath! Letting Bubs get too cold adds another high risk!
Hope that helps a little, sorry for the rant!
That's pretty much what I was thiking too Tegam
i'd skip the test too Marcellus...but that's just my opinion...
Freya: i have everything crossed that you get approved for the HB :crossfingers:
Meow: oohhhh you're getting close now too
