Bella; thank you so much for sharing your video with me - I watched it twice and it cemented my belief that I absolutely need to make sure I get the birth I want this time. You looked absolutely in your element having your little lad and I love that his sisters were there to see him make his grand entrance!
So Ive got a tentative spot at the KEMH birth centre. Im hoping I can bring DH around to either the public homebirth program OR a private homebirth. Im really still not feeling entirely 100% with the birth centre BUT its better than any other option (aside from homebirth) so for now I'll roll with it. Can always change my mind when we get to perth, I'll only be 14wks.
I haven't seen it meow, but I can imagine it would be pretty bad!
That's great news Freya. I agree, wasn't Bella's video amazing :).
I saw my midwife this afternoon and she brought the birth pool with her! We can now make sure we're all set for the birth, then we are all ready to go!
I had a lovely chat with my midwife about all the stuff I've been worrying about, and I am feeling much better.
I just want to have my weekend away and a last dinner date with hubby, then I am well and truly ready for bub to make his/her a appearance!
39 weeks today! Just a few last minute things to do, but basically I am ready for this baby to come... sort of. I still can't wrap my head around how close it is!
Just thought I would pop in and see how you were all doing. Sooooo much to catch up on.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the birth announcements and reading all the birth stories.
DD is now 9 weeks old, they grow far to quickly. I'm already thinking about baby number 4 lol.
Sending loads of birth vibes your way Sterla.
Wow Sterla, not long now! Congratulations. Let the stalking commence :)
Ozstar: 9 weeks, oh why oh why does it have to go so quickly :( Hope all is going well, which i guess it is if you are already thinking of number 4
My app says i have 62 days left! Get out of town! Work is becoming a nightmare. The other staff are as lovely as they can be but when there is an emergency (which i guess happens more often seeing i work in an emergency department LOL) then its all hands on deck and no time t be pregnant! I only think i have two weeks left in me!
Hello lovelies!
Sterla: oh the baking is almost done! and MASSIVE YAY for getting the birth pool! I dont think i can actually get into a birth headspace without it set up...i really like to have time to nourish that space and get my mind ready to birth in that place that i have chosen. have you picked out your spot yet?
Freya: oh i so hope that you get to have the choice you want xx like you said it is early days, so plenty of time to find your feet and get everyone on board. it took me ages with DD2 to get on board and go for it...and it was sooo worth it.
Tegam: oh man, all hands on deck seems like a lot of running about...i am a waddler at any gestation beyond 31 weeks hahaha...so kudos to you for sticking it out!
Meow: those shows always make me freaky sad/angry/panicky. Thankfully i now have a memory bank of my own gorgeous births and it is so reassuring to me now that those births are not the only way. that in fact, birth can be just plain fabulous fun.
Oz: I knew it!! the HB birth has bit you!!! After i had DD2 i couldnt possibly imagine a world where i wasnt able to do it all again. it made me feel like i was in freefall when i thought that that experience was a once-off....so i had to go it again lol.
Bella: simply stunning. what a beautiful birth so magically captured :heartbeat:
I haven't been in here for a while just trying to keep up with the convo but I'm falling behind!
I have 3 days til maternity leave kicks in, and I am still unsure exactly what pay I will receive from my employer and I don't know if I have a job to return to and it's all so bloody stressful! (my service is being handed over to another service and its extremely messy)
I am looking forward to getting my head into the birthy space, reading birthing from within and watching glorious birthing videos, hoping to watch orgasmic birth and a few other homebirth docos. And getting my list crossed off, birthy buys and prep time.
SO many dramas with my mum at the moment. We haven't told our families we are homebirthing again. Bracing ourselves for opinions!
Oh wow, so close to some more lovely births and babies!
Sterla - hope you have a lovely time with DH. Sending much love as you get ready.
Tegam - hope the work goes quickly. Sounds like you need to get into baby-welcoming mode.
Freya - hope your DH comes around soon. I found meeting with my m/ws clinched it for my DP. He respected their experience and professionalism.
Phyrephly - :( sorry about your hassles with your Mum.
AFM - def still have the urge for #4, and having my cycle return is not helping. (What's with that - I'm bfing two children!) Although at least it means I feel like DTD more often. ;) I am going to have an extremely hard time convincing DP though. Juggling three (esp two littlies) is def more challenging and it feels like we are constantly busy running around after small ppl needs. Thank goodness DD1 is at a helpful, cooperative stage, although has developed an acute sense of the level of 'unfairness' in her life. ;)
Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments about my video. It is beautiful isn't it. I love it. And so lovely to see that is encourages so many. I think that it will be the kind of video lots of little Hb kids will see, and that is cool for me to think.
Little Eddie is getting settled in now. He is ten weeks old. We are getting to really know him and what he does and doesn't like now. The girls are a dream with him. He is starting to get really settled now and sleeping for long blocks in my bed in early evening as long as he is wrapped up well. He likes to be snuggled up :). I don't mind at all. I have had to go completely strictly dairy free to help him, but having done that he seems much better.
Jen, Oz, I think about no 4 too. Hubby has basically said he doesn't want another but he talks as if it is already a given that we will have a fourth. He says he thinks I just want another too much
Sterla, mine are all posterior labours. With eddies labour I let the feeling of his feet still kicking me out in front really wig me out, cos I panicked that it would take ages for him to turn, but he did it super quick. So don't let it get to you like I did. I really wished I had kept a bit more positive and more perspective at that point. However I was pretty close to transition, so it was my prerogative to panic I think :). Birth blessings to you lovely.
Sterla, DS and DD2 were highly mobile during my pregnancies, switching from breech to transverse to cephalic regularly. For DD2 (my 3rd baby), i wore a tubigrip type wrap, plus strapped my tummy for most of the pregnancy. i was careful in how i moved, and thought all was well when she was fairly consistent in position for the last two weeks.
However at 40weeks +9 days, she decided to change position and moved fully transverse (across my tummy). i started to think i would need to find a hospital...... surgery.....then just before i rang my midwife, my DD asked to go check the chooks. I walked down the backyard and played with the kids 15 minutes or so, then headed back in. as the phone was ringing for me to tell my midwife that baby was not in a good position, i felt a kick at the top of my tummy. Baby had turned again! I went into labour soon after and she was born that night.
i think she needed to do a big loop to get in a good position ready to be born.
Thinking of you
So exciting so many babies due to arrive soon!
So we finally got a house given to us which enabled me to put in my paperwork for the CMP home birth program in Perth. Hopefully theyll give me a spot. I did decide to be brave and write on the paperwork that I would refuse the glucose testing. As far as Im aware that wont affect my application so fingers crossed!
Im just plodding along waiting to get out of the first trimester and hopefully get my second wind (and lose this awful morning sickness).
Thank you so much everyone for the kind words, etc. I was definitely having a freak out for a little while there about bubba's position... but I seem to have dealt with it and moved on. I am no longer obsessively on hands and knees and poking my belly to check on bubba's position. I feel like I have made peace that bubba will just be in whatever position works, and hopefully in labour will work out the best position to come out!
I am still having trouble getting into that birthy mindset. I had a super busy weekend, and the last couple of days I have been flat out too. I think I have overdone it actually - I am now really worried I might be coming down with (another) cold :(. I have started feeling off this afternoon like when you have a cold. I am really hoping not!!! DS has finished his kinder days for the week, so I am planning on taking it very, very easy from now on. I might even ask my sister to take the kids for the morning or afternoon so I can rest as much as possible. I think I keep overdoing it because I am feeling so good for the most part. I need to slow right down.
Can I please, please, pretty please have my baby this weekend... Come on bubba!
Sending lots of labour vibes your way!!
Hope the baby is listening :)
I had my appointment with my midwife today. Everything is going really well still, nothing to report - which is good!
I have been getting more and more BH, and some are getting a bit of bite to them, so my body is obviously warming up for the main event. Lots of lots of pressure this afternoon/evening too. Every night I go to bed hoping that tonight might be he start of something! Soon enough it will be I suppose :).
So, happy due date to me... or more like 'annoyed and frustrated due date'. I really thought bubba would have made an appearance by now, but I guess not.
I'm ready. Just trying not to go nutty waiting now...
Sending you some labour vibes !!.
How far along were your other babies born?
Thanks :).
DS was born at 40+8 (but that was induced with no sign of labour and ended up in a c/s). DD was born at 40+3 after spontaneous labour began at 40+1.
I hope this is your week! Any day now baby...
happy stupid random date they give us to mess with our heads! How boring to come when you are expected, maybe s/he will come now that its not expected….. Now it is going to be a LEO so i guess you had better get use to the idea that a leo only does what it wants when it wants and no amount of bribery, blackmailing or begging helps! Trust me i have TWO leo children. When they are good they are PERFECT! When they are at their worst……… they send you packing to a corner to cry LOL
Aren't i a positive little ray of sunshine! Think i have hit the "i can't keep going like this stage" Need to sort some things so i can't get a bit more rest! Hmmmm ideas hehe??
MEOW Does your ticker say almost 36 weeks EEEEKKKKKKKKKKK
My sister is a leo... so I know what you're talking about Tegam!
Should be an interesting combo with my feisty DD! Thank goodness DS is such a dream kid!
And yeah, I shouldn't be so caught up on the whole EDD thing... I'm just over it. I want to meet my bubba already!
Shhh Tegam! I'm SO not ready to be 36 weeks! Argh! I had an appointment with my backup MW the other day and I said a few times "I'll be 37 weeks and full term in less than 2 weeks! I'm not ready to have a baby in 2 weeks!"
Appointment with the backup MW went well. It was my first time meeting her and she's lovely. We didn't really totally click though, and it was actually reaffirming after the MW issues I've had to be reminded that the one I chose is the right one because I totally click with her. Have an appointment with my MW this Thursday which I'm looking forward to. I'm feeling a bit stressed that I haven't fully communicated my previous trauma and the triggers and concerns I have if we end up needing to transfer so I really want to go over all that with her and get a hospital transfer birth plan in place.
Be brave and make sure you get it all out! If you don't feel you can say it them maybe write it all down. I have a 33week appointment then a 36 week appointment!! What those appointments come so quickly! I think mentally I'm about 23 weeks. Body feels 63weeka pregnant hehe
hugs Sterla. i was sure #3 would come early, or at least earlier than my other two (41 weeks), and she didn't arrive until 41 +3. Hope you don't have too much longer to wait.
Thanks HotI. I wake up every morning so disappointed that nothing has started yet. I feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever.
Hugs Stela, the end of pregnancy is so hard.
Can I ask what everyone's views on Vit K are? We gave it to DS1, but not DS2, just doing some more research and still unsure.
Hi Ladybug :)
We gave Vit K IM to DD1…. oral for the rest. I did my research and found that the thing with the pros and cons that worr remember to ied me the most was the injection. I am happy with the effectiveness of the oral and i know that i will remember that later dose. We don't do Hep B. so no injections here. However i have noticed that with DD3 birth they gave me the injection to deliver the placenta even though it had it on their forms as i had declined. The person that was cutting DD3s TT day 1 (no mucking around with TT in this house) Didn't want to do it when she found out that she hadn't had the injection, even tho it was only 11hours post birth so what maybe 9hours since they would have done the injection. and she had had the oral dose…. Some people just want to make a point of things. One of the midwives in the practise i am going thru cuts TTs and has already said she is ok to do it straight away and that the oral Vit K is ok :)
Good luck deciding what is best for your little one and family :)
Thanks Tegam. I'm not nervous to talk about my problems with my MW but I feel like while I _have_ talked about it I'm not sure how seriously she understands it and how much I'll need her to be batting for me and know I'll be flipping out if we transfer and interventions are suggested/required. Luckily my kids will be at preschool during this appointment so I should be able to really talk seriously and cry so it's a good time to do it.
Lady-bug- we had oral vit K on our birth plan for our first son, with the intention of actually declining it altogether but when he was born he developing a swelling, bruised lump on his head and we went with the MWs suggestion to do the injection. Our second son we didn't give him any vitamin K. My position was that if babies are born deficient there must be a reason and we don't need to mess with it. My view has changed a bit now- I suspect babies are born deficient due to our poor modern diets. This time we have no intention of giving baby vitamin K but I am making sure to build up my own vitamin K levels. I include foods rich in vitamin K and I take alfalfa capsules, butter oil and pregnancy tea with nettles and alfalfa in it. I'm planning to continue those after birth while breastfeeding and have a placenta smoothie then do placenta encapsulation. All that said, if baby has any birth trauma we may still supplement and my MW will have the injection and oral vitamin K available if we decide to use it.
Google "Mommypotamus Vitamin K" for a good blog post that sums up a lot of information and a lot of the things we're doing.
Also google "chris kresser vitamin k2" for a great read on sources of vitamin K and why we're often not getting enough.
Meow only out of interest, what I have read lead me to believe that the mothers level of vit k doesn't seem to help baby....?
It crosses the placenta and is in your breastmilk (mostly very high levels in colostrum).
Thanks ladies, will definitely check out those links Meow, thank-you. My midwife is now recommending it where she didn't really give an opinion last time. She is now recommending it because there have been recent cases of babies becoming ill and dying without any warning signs.
I too will read those links cause as I said I read that is has a very poor rate of crossing that placenta and being in the milk supply! I love researching and finding out new things :) thanks meow
Vitamin K1 (plant based sources) does not cross the placenta well, but K2 (animal based sources) does. It is K2 that we really need to ensure we're getting a lot of.
ETA: Thanks for raising this question because re-reading back over the posts I referred to I'm not as convinced. It appears K2 crosses the placenta well... but it's actually K1 which is needed for clotting. So I'm not sure at this point how we can naturally ensure our babies have high levels of K1. More reading...
Sterla, you look sensational in your pictures on your blog! Hope you are going ok, thinking of you xox
Hey ladies *waves*
Here's something you will want to read!

WOOHOO STERLA!!!!!!!!!!
Meow: Oh so we are as clear as mud between us :) I wish i could remember where i got my info from. Maybe we could ask in that Facebook group too, there are some mad keen researchers on there :) If i had any energy to research id be doing my own uni work!
AFM: Ok i need some reassurance, I'm so tired! I have only gotten through the past three days with a day sleep (1.5hrs). Friends are saying its normal but isn't it a bit early (almost 33 weeks). I keep thinking of those women that work in rice fields all day. I am only out of bed four hours, maybe awake 5 before i am a yawning tired mess. I have a bit of a head cold and am getting up to the toilet 3-4 times a night but I'm still in bed for a good 8hrs…. Im taking my iron, multi vits, vit c and magnesium. Will this stage pass or is this it…. I can't remember being this tired.
UM IF STERLA has popped then isn't MEOW NEXT!!!!!!!!
OMG!!!! What, what what??? She just "liked" something I wrote on FB about 2 hours before giving birth! Sterla!!! I'm SO excited and thrilled for you!
Argh- not ready to be next though! Lady-bug and I are pretty close so who knows? :)
I'm having a crap day as I just discovered follow up blood test has shown my platelets dropping and they are currently too low to allow a HB. What is going on to me??!!! This pregnancy seems to be all drama :( Just had another blood test to rule out HELLP and I'll see my doctor tomorrow for ideas on how to boost my platelets. I'm SO tired of trying to cram in a million supplements and diet tips for health and being thrown curve balls the whole time. I feel like giving up :(
I went through a very tired stage about a month ago Tegam. Could just be baby growing and be totally normal. I started taking a chlorophyll supplement (chloroxygen mint flavour) in the mornings and that helped heaps though.
