Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Seeing the midwife tomorrow, if these four week appointments are going by so quickly how will the two weekly ones feel???
It's the biggy birth plan one.... Was thinking of putting it off but have been having some lovely chats with DH and eenee. I'm feeling more prepared to talk about it all now. Will report back tomorrow afternoon.
How is everyone else??
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Can't wait to hear how it goes! I've just started feeling more in the birthy zone too. Watched a couple of birth videos and read a birth story from a local woman who had the same MWs I have. Glad to hear you're ready to move into that phase :)
My MW doesn't seem to be mentioning a 'birth plan' meeting. Mustn't be the way they do things here... so I'll be adding it to the agenda  We have a "home visit" meeting at 36 weeks (because most people don't have their prenatal appointments at home) with everyone there (primary and backup MW and my husband) but the idea seems to be checking I have all my supplies ready.
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
I didn't have a specific birth plan meeting. The plan just sort of evolved at each appointment.
Enjoy your appts!
Kinda off topic. I had a friend s baby shower recently. She is planning to birth at a main hospital with a poor record for respect of human rights. I am scared for her. She doesn't want to discuss birth at all, and I fear she will just be railroaded. I hope she just has a quick labour and can avoid them as much as possible.
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
That's really hard HotI but sometimes totally ok. As you said she may just have a quick , easy birth and no time for unnesassary intervention. And then we must remember that there are a lot of women who expectations of birth are very different to ours. What we consider not ideal they are totally happy with. She may have loads of intervention, management and the ob may even 'save her or her babies life' and she may never second guess her choices. In someways I envy these women! Hugs to you for feeling concerned for her though xx
Meow glad yoy are having a home visit. Actually we haven't really talked about birth at all. Maybe it's to keep the appointments on track, we end up at about 1.5hr appointments already with no birth talk. This appointment is either at 24 or 28 weeks and it's specifically about the birth. It's the first time DH or the older kids will meet her. I hope DH likes her... She isn't at all like our last one so I think he will be happy!
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
It's hard watching those potential 'train wrecks' Hoti. I find it very hard when I end up being the person people want to debrief with because they know I 'get it'. But it's tough to have that emotional investment at the end when you weren't involved in the decision beforehand IYKWIM.
I have organised for all my appointments to be home visits so my MW is joking that that's what they're calling it. It's my 36 week appointment. I had a 'birth plan' meeting before and I really liked it as it made sure we went over every possible emergency or transfer situation and discuss what we wanted, what the reaction would be etc. and that gives me huge peace of mind to then go ahead and birth. And we also obviously discuss how I want to manage my normal, regular labour :)
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Totally get HotI, my close friend is wanting an elective c/section for her first in a private hospital (because the rooms are so nice) because she doesn't want to deal with the pain of labour...little does she know. And we've tried to talk about it a few times and it just goes no where.
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
It's hard isn't it HotI :(. Every time I hear of someone going through our local public hospital to have their bubba, I find myself quietly hoping they have as good an experience as possible - because I certainly didn't! Is she a first time mum? I honestly don't know if I would have come to changing my thinking on birth, etc if I hadn't had such a crappy, disempowered first birth through the hospital. I hope she has a good experience .
Meow: Home visits are the best aren't they!? I have had every appointment at my home, and one at my midwife's home this pregnancy. We haven't really had an official birth plan appointment here, but we do cover things here and there.
I am such a weird place at the moment... I am so totally in denial about how close this birth is! And time is going so quickly this pregnancy with two other kidlets to keep me busy. I'm struggling to find the time to read the books I want to read and try and get myself into a good mindset of feeling ready for the birth. All my 'crunchy/home birth' friends have moved away, so I'm really missing having them here as my cheer squad this time. I'd love nothing more than to sit down with them with a cuppa and talk birth with them for hours.

Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Lol, 'crunchy' as far as I understand it means a bit hippy-ish. I think it's an American word - hippy = granola = crunchy. Someone correct me if I'm wrong :).
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Crunchy means an Attachment/ Gentle parent.
Often people refer to themselves as 'kinda crunchy'. The older DD gets, the crunchier we get!
Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Hey girls, I just posted my birth story. My video is ready. I got it last night and I can't wait to show you all. It will probably be posted online on Monday or Tuesday. Wait till you see it! It is so beautiful! I am so blessed. It is like a tiny little time capsule of my beautiful little family right now. I adore it. Will send you all the link soon.

Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
Hey ladies, the video will be released tomorrow morning. But if you want to message me your interest, I will PM you a copy of the link. Just cos you guys have been my safe space to go to during my last two pregnancies, and I trust you to keep the link private until Georgia releases it tomorrow.

Re: Homebirth General Discussion #21
No I am just being naughty! Researching paleo eating and breast feeding. I have just started putting weight on again, and feel like I am starving all the time! I am desperate to not pack on heaps of weight. Not worried if weight loss is slow or non existent, but stressed by having just put on 3 kg in a month! Gahhhh! Messing with my enjoyment. Just wanna relax and enjoy
