Congratulations Liz! Your homebirth was meant to be. Enjoy your little girl!
Wonderful news Liz!!! Huge congratulations!
I told my MW I wanted a <1 hour labour and she said the same as you, that it can actually be a bit of a shock to end the pregnancy so fast. With my still quick <4 hour labour I was saying I shouldn't feel so wiped out afterwards and she reminded me I had done just as much work as any labour, just in less time. Just wanted to pass that on to you- don't let anyone tell you you got out of it easy. You just gave birth so babymoon it up darl! xx

Congrats again Liz! Sounds like you chose exactly the right place to birth.
Ooh crikey, I am next in line! In my other group there's like, everyone ahead of me, what a weird feeling!
I don't know if it's nesting or paranoia, but I've been getting the spare room ready, cleaning out junk, making room for the birth pool, putting up fairy lights (lol) etc etc. I had a very distinct dream last night that we had a baby girl, might have just been because we were talking about it just before bed! My inlaws are stuck on boy, my folks think girl, and we don't mind either way.
Congratulations Liz, on a precious daughter and a glorious homebirth! Sorry to hear that you felt unwell earlier in the day. Have you named your DD?
Jennifer13 - I am due in mid-Feb, close to my DD's birthday. If our bub is a girl, it will be the best ever present for my DD! We haven't told the kids yet. I am only 5 weeks tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone else for your congratulations!
Congratulations Liz :)
And PZ - stalking!!!
Thanks for adding me to the list HotI, much appreciated. :)
hahah me too rory! i am in total stalker mode now for PZ lol!
just wanted to pop in here and also say my congrats to PZ!!!!!
Oh really??? Details?
Thanks stoked :) found it, cheers
I keep reading in this thread and getting pulled away before I reply... then I get stupidly behind.
Ash- have I even said congratulations yet?? I'm so freaking excited for you!!!! Yay for a little vegan homebirthed bubbalugs on the way!!!!! :loveshower:
PZ- THRILLED your little Isla-Mae is earthside. Can't wait to hear all the details :D Congratulations!
Bella- I never did get to reply to your posts about your birth trauma... I think you're amazing. You are so strong and articulate and I'm so honoured to get to share this journey with you. It's gonna be brilliant
Congratulations PZ.
HotI - can you please remove me from the list. Sadly, we don't get a baby to keep this time. Our little boy is an angel playing with his brother. Here's a link to his birth notice: https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...rother-164968/

Congratulations on birthing Jude, Tash. I'm so sorry he wasn't able to stay. If/when you feel like sharing his birth story I would love to read it. I'm sure you did a wonderful job on the final journey you shared together.
Tash, i so wish little Jude could have stayed. I too would feel honored to read your birth story. The suffering/pain you must be living at the moment is unimaginable.
All our love!
Tash, I am sending you all our love for what must of been the truest bittersweet moment of birthing Baby Jude and meeting him for the first time while kissing him goodbye xx
Tash...all my love :heartbeat:
Tash - there are no words, but there is an amazing community of women (and men!) here for you.
Oh Tash, my heart aches for you and your DH. I am so sad that you had to say goodbye to precious Jude on the day of his birth. I am so sorry that you could not take him home to begin your lives together. I can not fathom the pain of birthing two precious boys that were only in your arms for a short time. I am sad that you will only see their smiles- and hear their laughter- in your dreams. xx Sending love and light from one mum to another.
Good news at today's u/s - bub is looking good and the placenta is anterior and nowhere near the cervix!! So a big yay and now looking forward to the m/w appt on Friday. Bub is measuring a couple of days ahead so growing well. Need to make sure at 19 weeks that scar is not an issue with the placenta but that is very unlikely. Now to convince DP not to bother with the ob next Tuesday. ;)
PS clinic is doing a study on early gender determination and it looks like we might have another baby girl on the way. No guarantees at this early stage but seemed fairly clear.
thats great news jennifer..... how lovely for DD to get a sister!
that's great news Jennifer! and we can attest to the awesomeness of parenting two girls!!!
Your DD will be over the moon, Jennifer. I don't know much about early sex determination- what makes them think bub is a girl? Is it to do with the direction of the urethra? I know my DD is hoping we have a girl.
Good news about your placenta too. Good luck with convincing DH to forgo OB appt.
Hi everyone,
I'm definitely going hb this time around but, I don't even know were to begin! With all the new laws in place etc. Do I just contact an iM? Also, can anyone recommend Victorian midwives?

In completely non-technical speak, they look closely at what looks like a tube where the genitals are forming and pointing upwards most likely a boy, downwards for a girl. Our baby's was downwards. the technology has sure improved from when I was pg with DD. They were able to check the heart closely and other things that I remember having done at the 19 week scan last time. That was nearly six years ago!
I'm pleased for DD if she gets a sister.
OMG! hello Loulabelle!!! :leap: so awesome to see you in here!!!!!!!!!!
I can (of course) highly recommend my midwives from "midwives naturally" (google for their website). i went with Nic and Helen (awesome...think a certain minogue sister used them as well ;)). Also, Meow on here used them with high recommendation too...
and yep, just give them a call and you can organise to meet them and see if you gel etc etc.
Yay Loulabelle!!!! :D :D :D
Give 'em a call. I don't think there are any laws in place- nothing has currently really changed with regards to home birth with an independent midwife. Just don't expect your MW to be able to bill to medicare. And if you possibly want to birth at home outside of the box (twins, breech etc) you'll need to find a midwife who's happy to have an "oopsie" and don't have ANY scans (evidence of twins etc).
The Midwives Naturally crew may be less likely to come to your area, but I'd call Helen anyway. I luv her! Otherwise, check out east Melbourne based midwives. I've heard good recs for Andrea Bilcliff and Joy Johnson. There's also a small team at eastsidemidwives dot com.
Mine still bulk bills Medicare for pre and post natal visits. I don't think they were ever able to do that for the birth (my PHI does though). New laws changed possible access to medical indemnity for independently practising m/ws and possibly the link to Medicare, but I don't know if that's in place as I think temp measures are in place for current practicing m/ws. But I'm no expert!
My GP and m/w can both refer for scans, but were you saying if you don't want any scans?
midwives naturally... nic and clare :)
That's great you are bulkbilling your pre and post natal visits! My MW wouldn't sign a collaborative agreement as it would impede her ability to provide woman-centred care, so we couldn't bill medicare. But the medicare billing only came in to effect for my post natal care... she may have been able to work it out now.
I was just saying don't get scans as proof of twins etc as I've heard many MWs are scared of getting in trouble if they support a HB for some pregnancies... but some might be happy to do it so long as you don't have evidence.
Thanks guys! I sent off a couple of emails to different IM's last night. Hopefully at least one will service my area. I guess I'll just have to wait and see about Medicare, it would be great if I could claim but at the end if the day, having the birth I want is the most important thing and if i have to pay full then so be it.
Dh is most likely starting FIFO work in the next few weeks and I would rather he take the time off once baby is born than take weeks off waiting for the baby to arrive only to have to go back as soon as I give birth. It's another reason why having a homebirth is so important to me. There is no way I'm going to a hospital with unknown people taking care of me without dh. It's my worst nightmare! Surprisingly, I'm not too worried about birthing without him at home with a midwife here for me. Apart from being a bit sad that he might miss our child be born of course. Might feel differently once it gets closer to the time though. He still could be here for it anyway, it's 2 weeks and 1 week off.
Wow Jennifer, that's really cool about finding out the gender that early! I found out the sex of my last two but I'm going to try to keep it a surprise this time- if I can stand it.

lou, my DH missed the birth of our 2nd, she was early so it was a shock so not the same as you guys knowing ahead of time....but it was very hard for him and us. we walked in 20mins late, she was still on my chest, he did first bath and we all went home 4hrs after.... her birth is still a sore spot for him.... since then for the next two we have gone with him having a lot of time off before the birth and yes him having to go back to work soonish after, DS he on;ly has three days at home after :( but he was there for the births.... each to their own and maybe knowing before hand that he might miss it might have made all the difference.... good luck
