Homebirth General Discussion #5

Yeah 37 weeks.. which is actually tomorrow, but we're close enough ;)

I think we survived the night staying head down :) Had a restless night tho, any big movements were waking me up in case bub was flipping back, and my poor old legs were aching all night. I've got a follow up scan later this morning, and my final chiro appointment today as well. Feel like I've got appointments coming out of my ears LOL. I have a followup appointment with the OB at the hospital on Monday, and acupuncture on Tuesday! After that (if baby hasn't arrived) it'll just be acupuncture and midwife tho. I'm busting to get stuck into some nesting again, but I just don't have time at the moment!

Had my midwife appointment. Baby still breech, still have plenty of time though so not to worry just yet. Just strange for me as my other two were head down and engaged really early. My cervix is already soft and starting to open, I've lost a bit of plug already so maybe baby knows if he turns head down too early he'll fall out!

Alright everyone, I'm seriously stuck. Every midwife I've contacted so far, with one exception, is on holidays on 1 Jan. Surely this can't be all the m/ws close to me in Sydney? The one I did manage to get a hold of who can be there for me is too far away for visits up until the birth (I don't fancy a 3 hr round trip when I have DD at school and work 3-5 days a week).

I've contacted all the m/ws again and I'm hoping one can provide me with a list of other m/ws close by that might be able to help.

Any suggestions??? Feel free to PM me if you know someone! I tried contacting some people I know IRL too and nothing has come up yet. :(

Who'd have thought this would be such an issue? I have promised DP to keep the ob appt as a back up in case there are issues at the scan in 2 weeks, like with DD. But fx I don't need this, as I don't even want to go if I can help it. But with no m/w sorted, I won't have that choice!

Sorry Jennifer, I have no idea where you'd even look to find another m/w. I am lucky enough to be able to use the CMP so I've never been in your situation. Have you had any luck over the last few days?

Thanks Stoked. I had a great chat with a really awesome (and unfortunately unavailable) m/w who has given me a list. While I know of a few on the list who are 'nos' at least I have a couple to try. Fx!

But I had no idea it would be this hard. It's not like I live out the back of beyond or something! Maybe it would be easier if I did live someone near a hippie commune. Is Sydney just not very pro-HB or is it just that we all like our Xmas holidays too much?

I've booked in one in who is not close enough for me to go to her (I spoke to her previously and we kinda decided wouldn't work) but has just gotten two clients further away and is willing to come to me as I'm on the way. Phew! So she's coming to visit week after next and hopefully DP will like her. I've put the ob off until after her. His receptionist was not happy, but bad luck. Now I have to go and have u/s and blood tests end of next week and we're set. Fx!

Oh Jen, i hope that she is lovely and then you guys can really start preparing and revelling in this journey xx

I always forget that there's a home birthing chat on belly belly! Hi everyone, we're planning home birth number two, hoping this one doesn't turn into a hospital transfer again ;) my lovely midwife is very reassuring that Ewan paved the way for the next one to come out!

Jenn, I am glad you have a solution. BTW, I live in hippie-ville, and a friend of mine couldn't get a midwife for her first preg because her due date was around Xmas. She had to book in to the hosp. Her DD was born on Xmas day.

AFM, I got a BFP yesterday. Yay! Very excited, and just trying to enjoy it before the ms kicks in. Looking forward to another homebirth.

I haven't added me to the list yet (January), but might be soon. I have an appt at a Birth Centre next week where i think they will say i am too high risk for the birth centre. I have an IM in mind, but i think i am too scared to call her in case she says she won't travel to me or is unavailable and that would be too much. On the positive side though, i have spoken to a local student midwife who has an awesome history (including 2 homebirths herself) and is interested in catching up even if we don't do a follow -through program.

I don't know if i want the birth centre, or if i just want the choice. One difficulty is that they have so many rules, that you could get to 30+ weeks and then they say they are transferring you to the hospital. They have a 10% pregnancy transfer rate and a 10% labour transfer rate. The high risk thing is bull, i copped that the first time and just ended up with red tape and assault. I don't want to play good-little-girl (GLG) this time.
