Thanks ladies :)
Ash I would love to see your photos too! Enjoy your nb snuggles honey! It is just Devine isn't it!
Dd2 has just started smiling really regularly. B4 they were sporadic, now everytime she is properly awake, she is smiling. Big delighted smiles too. I finally caught one on camera today too :)

oh yes, photos!! especially those euphoric ones! so so much joy!
Jen: that is sooo cool that you got to tell your OB! i wish i was able to tell the guy that was the OB when DD1 was born...he would have a conniption lol. I would love to see that too....

thankyou all so much guys! you have me all teary.
it was amazing! absolutely amazing! contractions went for about 24 hours but established full labour was about 5 hours. contractions stayed about 8 mins apart right until the end, they just got more intense, I think that must have been the water. I loved how I could really rest and relax between them when I was in the water. Joshua came out like a torpedo when it was time. although id been doing small pushes during contractions for about an hour, it was more for relief than actually pushing. when it was time, I felt him come down the birth canel and start to crown all on his own. I thought the contraction was ending but then suddenly out his head popped followed quickly by his body and he literally shot to the top of the water! my clever boy did it all himself! the only down side of that was that I didn't get to snuggled up to him right away. the cord was wrapped quite tightly around his neck as the mw didn't have time to unwrap it as he came out. I had to stand up really quickly so that it could be done. standing up so quickly after him coming so quickly sent my body into a shock a bit so we had to get out of the pool and onto the bed pretty much the instant he came out. I did feel a bit upset at myself and my body but now its been a couple if days, I can see how irrelevant it is. he came the nature intended, i can't ask for anything more.
he's feeding like a pro and is so divine I just want to drink him up.
Joshua leif 3250g and 49cm ( a big boy for one of my babies.)
1st stage 5 hours
2nd stage 30 seconds
3red stage 1 hour 10 minutes.
I'm in love!

Oh loulabelle!!! what a lovely description! I am so happy for you! What a birthing goddess you are. Enjoy your newborn perfection!!!
AFM- DD2 seems to know how to self settle!! Hows that! I don't leave her to cry and she sleeps with me every night, but I just notice she seems sleepy and I put her in the same position(on her side) that she lies in, next to me in bed, but I do it on the couch, and she just falls asleep on her own. Such a clever baby!! Love love love!!

Oh Loulabelle!!! :leap: :loveshower:
We also had an interruption to immediate cuddles as Marta had a tight cord around the neck that was tricky to pull over and off and the cord was quite short! so i was a bit bummed in that she came out all peaceful and chilled but had to be disturbed by the cord smooshing over her face, poor wee poppet!
but boob fixed all her woes :)

Sounds like a lovely birth Loulabelle. :)
Just out of curiousity, did/do you have any "premonitions" about your birth? I didn't really with my hospital babies, but with my home birth ones, I did. Nothing major, just little things.
With DD3, my first homebirth, I knew she would be born in the bath. With DS, I had a strong feeling that he would not be born in the bath, but on my bed, which he was, even though I laboured in the bath from 6cm on. (he got stuck at pushing and we had to move.)
The thing is, I have this worry/feeling that I will have this baby on my own. My midwives have always arrived in plenty of time, and though I don't have long labours at all, they've never been so short that I can't call someone, so I don't know what's put this in my head. The idea of giving birth alone isn't too scary to me - it's the fear of hemorrhaging, afterwards, especially with this being baby #6. I'm sure it will be fine - I don't know what's giving me this idea. But it's been rattling around in my head for a while, so I thought I'd just put it out there.
Anyone else have any feelings about how something would go in your birth? Did it happen that way, or not?
-
Oh Loulabelle, you did amazingly well! You're obviously just a bit too good at the pushing bit.
Cricket, I knew a few things about my birth, like the time I would go into (early) labour, the date and that it would go well. Maybe not as detailed as you, but I think you should trust your intuition. Have you talked to your m/w about it? Have you had your iron levels checked? Apparently low iron levels can be a risk for hemorrhage. But even if your m/ws don't arrive for the birth, I imagine they'd be there pretty soon afterwards to take care of you and bub. Can't do any harm to be prepared for what might happen if you are faster than them though. It's still unlikely (statistically) that you'd hemorrhage, even with this being #6.

oh loulabelle that sounds so beautiful - gives me chills to read how your bub came into the world!! Congratulations again!!!
Bella29 - your bub is so clever! She must feel so safe and secure :)
Ash - I'd love to see your photos!!
AFM - little C has mastered rolling from back to front and vice versa over the last few weeks which makes
me so proud, he's also chatting lots and being so generous with his giggles and smiles. The last few days I think he's hit a wonder week - lots of tears and the usual tricks to settle him
aren't cutting it. He's feeding lots but insisting that I feed him while walking around - my poor back is cactus!! :)
Is anyone planning on going to Hobart for the Homebirth Conference? C and I will be there
:)

Just for fun, since DH is away this evening and I didn't have anything pressing to do, I decided to write down what I remember from my first two births, and post it here on BB. Here you go, if you're curious. :) https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...2005-a-177992/
Jennifer - I will be having my iron checked in a couple weeks, and I'll definitely mention my concern to my midwife. Part of me feels silly for worrying about this, but I guess it's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared!
Another slightly random question - has anyone recommended homebirth to others, and then gotten kind of worried when they decide to go for it?! A friend of mine is going to have her next baby at home, after I and some other homebirthing mums and dads reassured her DH that it's a great way to have a baby, and very safe, and now suddenly I find myself worrying for them! What if they are the 1 in a million who have problems?! They have a good experienced midwife and this is baby #5 for them - I'm sure it will be fine. But I feel more worried for her than I do for myself and my baby! Anyone else have that?
-
cricket: i knew of some details. like a had a strong feeling about the date, that i would labour in the day etc.
as for your other question...yes! i recommend HB to anyone that would listen. even if thing do go wrong the love and support that you get even when transferring is totally worth it. you will always, no matter what, have much better support.

Got DD2's birth certificate in the mail and under place of birth is our address! So cool!
Also got a HB newsletter saying the new edition of the Birthings mag went to the printers and will be posted out shortly. Can't wait to see our story and photos in print!
My HB get together is tomorrow and I've finally remembered to write my second m/w a thank you card. I've also copied my birth footage to send to my sister for her professional editing skills. I'll send photos to her as well, to make up for where my Mum's poor videography skills come into play. ;) I think i'll ask her if she could manage a short 2-4 min version to share and a longer one with everything she thinks works.
I am sending my birth pool back to its rightful owner on Monday (they move into a new house interstate and I offered to hold onto it until then). I'll be sad to see it go!
How are our May HBers doing? And Kel, how are your preparations coming along?
-
That is cool about your address on the birth cert Jen :). Very nice. Can't wait to get mine now :)
